I still remember a couple of years ago when everyone used to have heated discussions about who was better in Lebron and Melo. I never hear any of those kind of conversations anymore. Lebron is by far the better player in my mind and many other basketball fan minds now. Lebron took a team that had Big Z and Daniel Gibson as his second and third options all the way to the finals back in 2007. Lebron just dominates mostly, i've seen this dude go through quadruple teams and still finish it strong with a dunk.
Carmelo on the other hand is a good player but I've started believing that he is an underachiever, dude has had far more talented teams than Lebron and still has never done jackshit in the playoffs. (My apologies to Nuggets-Fan). Lebron is a better leader, better defender, better passer and better franchise player compared to Melo. Lebron > Melo. Come to think of it if Lebron and Melo switched teams over the past years what do you think would happen? I actually think Lebron would have brought a championship to the Mile high city and the Cavs would be in the lottery with Carmelo as their best player. Just my thoughts.

I don't watch the Nugs and I've read that Melo's improved defensively. But he can't be anywhere close to LeBron. I mean the guy is just everywhere this year. Everytime I see him play, I'm just astounded by how much impact he has on both ends of the court. Markedly more so than in years past, which is almost unfathomable given his past performance. LeBron's so much better than everybody else right now it isn't even funny. Including Kobe (though we'll see what happens when he throws it into 4th gear :lol).

I'm not sure LeBron brings a ring to Denver, but I agree Cleveland with a hypothetical Carmelo = teh mad suckage. Relatively.

If they had the 2003 Draft to do over, I would be happy if the Cavs selected Lebron James, and the Pistons took Darko instead of Anthony, Wade, Bosh, Kamen and David West.

Think off it like this Ballijuana : Lebron James + Allen Iverson + Kenyon Martin + Marcus Camby + Nene + J.r. Smith + Linas Kleiza = 2007-2008 Nba Champs.

At this point all Melo has over LBJ is a better 3point shot and better freethrow shooting. If you look at Lebron and Melo's FG% over the years you will see that Lebron's is higher.

Well maybe. They would've certainly competed and I didn't mean to say that I would preclude them from the discussion. But I don't think it could be said with any certainty, that that team definitely wins a ring. In any case, as a Jazz fan, I'm happy LeBron's where he's at.

Think of it like this : If you were an nba player and you were 6 foot 9 inches and you were 250 pounds. Your combo of speed and strength makes you one of the most athletic players to ever play in the nba, and you know that you can get to the rim and finish easily most of the time. Why then would you settle for jumpshots?

You're right that you can't say with certainty that they would be champs but I think that I can say with certainty they would have gotten out of the first round. The fact that Melo has Never gotten out of the first round is terrible.

I don't remember any heated discussions over who was better between the two. Even during the 2003 draft, there weren't heated discussions. Even college analysts were pretty much all in agreement that LeBron was better. Maybe there was some debate over who was a better scorer. But, better player, not really, not really ever.
I think you have a bad memory.

No I don't have a bad memory, maybe i shouldn't have used the term "everyone" though. But anyway alot of my friends and family used to argue about who was the better player. :toast

Well I am someone that believed in 03 that Melo deserved the ROY ahead of LeBron. In a way I still think I am right. Melo came to the league as a much more rounded product. Ever since the day he steped onto the court you knew what kind of player he would be: classic SF, with good size and good range, and one of the best midrange jumpers in the game but with limited abilities in other areas. LeBron meanwhile was still discovering his huge physical talents, and one might argue he still is. Melo went to a much better Nuggets team at the time, but also in a tougher conference, and immediately became their go-to guy and took them to the playoffs. I didn't believe he would be a better player, but I still think he deserved at least a part of ROY for the regular season.. cause once the playoffs came around that year everyone started to understand who was the real rival to LeBron from that 03 drat class !

And yet for all this talk about Melo vs LeBron it is Wade and Darko sporting the rings and a Finals MVP trophy.
Not too many people said Carmelo was ever better than Lebron

Personally I would put Wade first but that is just me. I am sure Heat fans are happy he fell to the 5th pick.

I too thought Melo might win rookie of the year but I don't remember all reasons why. However, there was no way Cleveland would draft Melo, or anyone, ahead of LeBron. James was a local product and the hype was out of this world. From a business sense alone, he was a must pick. Suicide not too choose him.

Anthony should have won the Rookie of the Year award in the 03-04 season. Look at the stats from that season between King James and Carmelo. Anthony averaged more points per game, more rebounds per game, higher field goal percentage, higher 3 point percentage, higher free throw percentage, and fewer turnovers per game. Lebron did surpass Anthony in assists per game…maybe that is how the NBA decides Rookie of the Year. Personally, I could care less about stats, it all comes down to performance and wins and losses for me. Guess what? Anthony led Denver to a 43-39 season, and to the playoffs. Mr. James was watching ‘Melo in the playoffs from a suite in the Pepsi Center. I know because I was there. So the guy with better stats, wins and a playoff performance doesn’t win rookie of the year. Why?

It was definately the wrong choice at the time.
