Sparks star Candace Parker won just about every award there was to win in 2008.
Numerous college Player of the Year honors, the WNBA Most Valuable Player award as a rookie, the Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year recognition, not to mention another NCAA championship at Tennessee and an Olympic gold medal in Beijing.
Needless to say, it was a year that was going to be hard to top.
But 2009 is already looking even better.
On Wednesday, the Sparks star announced that she and her husband Shelden Williams are expecting their first child this spring.
"Shelden and I are very excited to be expanding our family," Parker said in a statement released by her agent. "We feel blessed and look forward to becoming parents."
Parker very recently informed the Sparks of her pregnancy, but said she intended to play in the 2009 WNBA season which begins June 6. Her due date is "in the spring," before the WNBA season-opener, but no other details were released.
