Every single Spurs player / coach should mention the officiating and lambast them in the post-game. I'd like to see Stern & Co. fine an entire team when these refs should be fired. Or Stern should be replaced.

Final: Magic 105, Spurs 98 (http://blogs.mysanantonio.com/weblogs/spursworld/2009/01/game-blog-spurs-vs-magic.html)
By Joe Alexander
J.J. Reddick and Jameer Nelson each hit a big 3-pointer in the final three minutes of the game to help the Magic capture a 105-98 victory over the Spurs.
Reddick's 3-pointer put the Magic in front for good with 2:34 left.
Dwight Howard led the Magic with 24 points and 15 rebounds. Tony Parker led the Spurs with 31 points.
FOURTH QUARTER
It's staying close, and sometimes a little rough, heading down the stretch. The Magic lead 97-94 with 2:18 left.
Roger Mason Jr.'s second basket of the game was a 3-pointer with 6:30 remaining. That put the Spurs in front 86-85.
It's that kind of night. Tony Parker went in for a rebound and got knocked down by Tim Duncan. The ball went out off the Spurs and the Magic got it back.
The Magic's Keith Bogans and Rashard Lewis hit back-to-back 3-pointers. Orlando lead 80-77 with 8:56 left.
The Spurs got a jumper from Kurt Thomas and a 3-pointer from Manu Ginobili early in the quarter. More importantly, the Magic went scoreless their first three possessions. The Spurs lead 77-74.
The Spurs opened the fourth quarter with George Hill, Roger Mason Jr., Manu Ginobili, Bruce Bowena and Kurt Thomas on the floor.
THIRD QUARTER
Former Spur Hedo Turkoglu scored 12 points in the last 9:21 of the third quarter to help the Magic take a 74-72 lead into the final period.
Hedo Turkoglu and Dwight Howard combined for the Magic's last 14 points. The Spurs look a little frustrated over some calls and the Magic lead 69-68.
Hedo Turkoglu's scoring got the the Magic going again after they went scoreless seven of their first eight possession of the second half.
The Spurs' defense is kicking in and they wiped out what was an eight-point Magic lead. Tony Parker has three baskets in a two-minute stretch and the Spurs lead 59-57.
Michael Finley made a couple of hustle plays, including a steal he converting into a dunk for the Spurs' first basket of the second half.
The Spurs' starters were on the floor to begin the second half.
SECOND QUARTER
The Magic are shooting 50 percent and made five 3-pointers in the second quarter. They took a 55-50 halftime lead.
Tony Parker led the Spurs with 18 points and six assists in the half. Tim Duncan didn't score in the second quarter.
Tim Duncan is looking tired. He sat out the first seven minutes of the second quarter and still was hanging back on offense on some possessions.
Kurt Thomas has hit three of his last four shots and Tony Parker is up to 10 points. The Magic lead 45-42.
J.J. Reddick and Hedo Turkoglu hit back-to-back 3-pointers. The Magic have their biggest lead so far at 40-32.
FIRST QUARTER
The Magic finished the first quarter with a 9-2 run to take a 34-28 lead.
Tim Duncan and Tony Parker combined to score the Spurs' first 18 points. Michael Finley's basket made it 20-20.
Midway through the first quarter, Tony Parker made his third baskets. He made three baskets the entire game the last time the Spurs played the Magic.
Tim Duncan made his first four shots and the Spurs are shooting well. The Magic are just as hot and lead 15-14.
I gues SD will be out for a month.
That's the good thing I guess.

No one should have a damn fucking thing to say about the Spurs. They busted their ass out there. They worked and worked and gained the lead back after a slew of no calls and horrible calls, only to have it COMPLETELY FUCKED by two phantom calls. That completely fucked us over, we had hte momentum we just got a stop, then we get called for a "moving screen" even though Duncan was standing still. Then, Lewis misses a three AFTER NOT GETTING BREATHED ON and he gets three free throws and the Magic never look back. I don't understand. I just don't. Complaining about the refs is fuckign weak and I'm doing it hardcore right now but seriously, that looked fucking shady. It just looked fucking shady.

It's JANUARY.
Same happened last year, the year before that, and before that, and before that.
If we are still making basic defensive errors in March, then start worrying.
Also, we need a big, but you know that already.
Turkoglu scoring 21 will win every time.
But he has as much chance of doing that in a big game as Bonner does. (Hopefully, we will understand our end of that equation before April rolls around.)

Agreed.
We had more blocks, more steals, more rebounds, more assists, and fewer turnovers. We had more shot attempts, and we shot over 50% from the floor - plus we went 17-17 from the free throw line. Normally that would make for a big win. But not when the other team shoots 14-22 from the 3P line. We left too many wide open 3-pointers, but the Magic also made some really tough shots. It was one of those nights when the other team was just in the zone.

Dude. The spurs aren't going to win every game. We are number 1 in the southwest. That's pretty good considering how the season started. In the grand scheme of things, we are fine. Like Sean Elliott mentioned in the game, if the magic shot that percentage against any other team, it would be a double digit lead. Some of those shots were contested. Magic were better today.

42 ptrs from 3Gs is hard to overcome. But Spurs were close.
Couldn't find a way to win, couldn't make their shots down the stretch. Nobody really showed up in crunch time.
Historic loss, first time the Magic sweep the Spurs, at least during the Duncan era.

Pop again lost us this game with his Finley Man crush. It's freaking sickening to see Finley getting schooled.:bang:bang:bang
I couldn't believe it when I saw Mason was not out there after that time out. I'm looking at Bonner and Finley. One of these two shouldn't have been in instead of Mason. Tonight it was Finley that shouldn't have been in there. Matt battled hard, didn't play great, but all didn't get many shots.

Huh? He's not Manu of old, but he wasn't terrible tonight. He got to the rack, tried hard, missed a lot of shots... oooo, and he was -19 tonight! Ouch. But Tim was -13, so what does that tell us?
As for his TOs - 2008, 2.04 in 26mins, career average 2.1 in 27mins. In other words, he's turning it over the same as he always has.
He had 4 critical and more like game changing turnovers.
He looked ragged and freaking flopped all over the court tonight. No wonder they didn't call that charging foul (which was clearly an offensive foul) on Howard.

I swear man, why not just leave Tim on him in the 4th quater? Is Dwight that much better than Tim.
Pop seriously needs to start getting on these guys asses once in a while (especially Finley & Manu).
Manu needs discipline as he's way too erratic nowadays.

I'll never understand that either. True, Mason made a mistake by sagging off of Reddick (how obvious is it to let Howard CREATE BY HIMSELF with 4 seconds on the shot lock?) but Finley makes numerous mistakes on the defensive end and gets a free pass 24/7. Finley responded by clanking two threes. Finley has done well this season but Mason should have been in-he just hit a three and is known to heat up.

Tough loss but what are you going to do when a team hits 63% of their threes? That kind of shooting is just a statistical aberration...meaning, it ain't going to happen often.
That being said, Magic are looking nice these days. I didn't really consider them an elite team til tonight. They're taking care of business. They took care of us. We have work to do. The FO has serious work to do.

This is the NBA. Just because we've been playing scrub teams, doesn't automatically make it an automatic W. Spurs have been going out and taking care of business. They've only lost two games to 'scrub' under .500 teams since mid-November when they weren't healthy. Both of those losses were to the Bucks who always play us well.
Look at the Celtics for example. They supposedly had plenty of 'automatic W's' but they end up losing because they aren't taking care of business against scrub teams. They were COMPLETELY healthy losing those games which is even worse for them.

Spurs shot better from the field, had better FT%, out rebounded, out assisted, stole more, blocked more shots, and had less turnovers.
Only thing Magic did better was have more FT attempts and hit more 3's.
But it was weird because all the calls stopped the momentum and marred what was shaping up to be a good game.

The Spurs are fine. They competed with a good team and that's what I wanted to see from them against better competition.
Spurs shot 50% from the field and Orlando shot 48.6% from the field.
Spurs outrebounded Orlando 38-33 and both teams had 6 offensive rebounds.
Spurs had 11 turnovers and Orlando had 13 turnovers.
The Spurs made 100% (17-17) in free throws and Orlando made 86% in their FTs.
The difference is the game was the three point shooting. Orlando made 14 of 22 three pointers for 63% and the Spurs made 3 of 13 three pointers for 23%.
Orlando did a good job closing out on the Spurs 3 pt. shooters and the Spurs played terrible 3 pt. defense.
Also, KT played well and hit open jumpers on the pick-n-pop play. That's a good sign. Also, I believe that Mason and Bonner needed more opportunities for shots.
The Spurs will have to work on their 3 pt. defense and they will be ready for Wednesday night.

See, this is what makes me so fucking angry. I'd be much more willing to accept this loss if the Spurs sucked ass, but they outplayed the Magic in every aspect except the two you mentioned. And when we got the lead in the fourth quarter and the momentum, back to back HORRIBLE calls, the most bullshit of calls, ruined it. Destroyed it. We never recovered. I hate it and I'm not going to get over this game very easily because we played very well and lost. I'm so pissed off. There were so many blown calls and no calls against us, it's ridiculous. the bad: the other team played even better.

The Spurs have got to stop hanging their heads every time the Magic or another team make a bullshit play or shot.
I'm seeing this way too often these days like the Spurs are going to give up because the other team keeps pulling ridiculous plays out of their asses. So what if the Magic made a thread, get over in and move on to the next possession. every time the refs make a mistake the Spurs dwell on it too much, forget about it and move onto the next play. Pop usually has the team not worrying about that sort of shit, but lately they are letting is distract them and take away from their game.

For all the people wanting to dog Hedo, he was a huge factor in that the Spurs were so focused on his penetration that he got open looks for Howard for dunks and open three's for guys on the perimeter. Without his play, all those wide open 3's the Magic hit do not happen. I guess you all know better than David Robinson who said Hedo is the difference maker for the Magic. Hedo was and still is the long 3 who can shoot from the outside, put the ball on the floor, pass, rebound, and play PF in a small ball line-up. So wonderful to see Hedo tonight.

Was at game. Some thoughts...
1. Mason didn't get the ball enough! Four shots only?!
2. Parker look too much for his own shot. Think he got tired at the end and thats why he missed the last 2 close shots.
3. Went away from Timmy. He had 10 points at the end of 1st qtr and had Howard in foul trouble. We don't go back to him until the fourth quarter.

Its blame Finley for the loss day again. Those have been rare this year. Fact is, it doesn't matter if it was Mason or Finley out there in the 4th. The Magic were gonna win regardless. You don't allow teams to shoot that well from 3. And frankly, I don't think a team deserves to win who allows it. Things are fine. Everyone wants to panic. We competed tonight. No, i'm not satisfied with just competing but the game could've went either way and that was with the Magic going bizarck from 3.
