Here is a contest I entered at a FF site I subscribe to. First prize is $15,000. Tell me what you think of my picks, and share your own too.

RULES

There will be no draft. A subscriber simply chooses a team from the pre-determined values. Roster selection can be editted until September 1st at which point it will be frozen. No roster moves are permitted once the contest starts.

Each participant will be able to choose any player from the pulldown lists as long as the team is at or below the cap value of $200. Players not on the pull down lists are not available.

Each team will select a predetermined number of players. These are:

3 QBs
4 RBs
6 WRs
2 TEs
2 PKs
2 Defenses
Each selection has a different cap value, but all teams must remain at or under the $200 cap.

You must select all the positions to be a valid entry. For example: Submitting 4 WRs constitutes an invalid lineup and will be disqualified.

You may not select the same player more than once. For example: Submitting a lineup with two Koren robinson's will be disqualified.

Each week your top QB, top 2 RBs, top 3 WRs, top TE, top PK and top Defense will count towards your weekly total. You do not have to select who will play. You will receive the maximum score based on your roster.

Contest will be Survivor style until we get to 64 teams. By survivor style, we mean that only the high scores for JUST THAT WEEK advance to the next round. Scores reset each week.

At 64 teams, Contest will become head to head (NCAA style) until there is 1 person standing. The 64 teams will be ranked based on total points scored by their starters in weeks 1-10 (Most points = 1 seed, etc)

Each submision is tied in with your login so you can edit and tweak all the way until September 1st. Your last submit will be your final roster.

The weekly cutoffs are as follows:

Week 1 trim to 8000 teams (all advance if we have less entries)
Week 2 trim to 6000 teams
Week 3 trim to 5000 teams
Week 4 trim to 4000 teams
Week 5 trim to 3000 teams
Week 6 trim to 2000 teams
Week 7 trim to 1000 teams
Week 8 trim to 500 teams
Week 9 trim to 250 teams

Week 10 trim to 64 teams (Teams seeded by highest points based on performance in weeks 1-10)

Week 11 (H2H) trim to 32 teams
Week 12 (H2H) trim to 16 teams
Week 13 (H2H) trim to 8 teams
Week 14 (H2H) trim to 4 teams
Week 15 (H2H) trim to 2 teams
Week 16 (H2H) Championship Game

Scoring:

Scoring will be calculated to two decimal places (Example: 106.85)

Player Scoring (QB, RB, WR, TE)
Passing TDs = 4 points
Interceptions Thrown = -1 points
Rushing TD = 6 points
Receiving TD = 6 points
Passing Yardage = .05 points per yard
Rushing Yardage = .10 points per yard
Receiving Yardage = .10 points per yard
Receptions for RB and WR = 1 point
Receptions for TE = 2 points
No points scored for 2 point conversions

Kicker Scoring (PK)
Field Goal Made = 3 points
Extra Point Made = 1 point

Defense Scoring (Def)
Sack = 1 point
Interception = 2 points
Fumble Recovery = 2 points
Safety = 2 points
Defensive/ST TD = 6 points (Kickoff return, punt return, blocked FG return, blocked punt return, interception return, fumble recovery return)

All scoring is determined final when posted regardless if the NFL later changes the data. Weekly results will be published on Tuesday morning following the completion of all games.

Ties in all rounds prior to the 64 cutoff will advance. At 64 teams going forward, the following tie breakers will be in place:

Highest score (Choose the highest points scored by an NFL team this week)
Lowest score (Choose the lowest points scored by an NFL team this week)
Average score (Choose the average points scored by all NFL team's this week)

These tiebreakers are for any situation requiring them at/or below 64 teams.

Some good values, but I dunno about the James pick.

Not that I think he'll do bad, but you could have saved some points with McAllister, Portis, Alexander, and Henry- all of which whom I would rate over James. You'd then have more loot to uprade the WR position.

What league is this? Is it free?

The contest is sponsored by blackeyedjoe.com (http://www.blackeyedjoe.com).

A few comments on the strategy. One, there are several thousand entries. One of my goals was to differentiate myself from the other contenders. Edgerrin James does that immediately. Now that the contest is closed, many of the contestants are posting their rosters. Nobody has gone with Edgerrin James. I also tried to factor in the effect of bye weeks. I did not like Portis with a week 10 bye. I tried my best to spread my bye weeks out and get them out of the way early. I'm not sure if this is a sound strategy.

I also rolled the dice on Maurice Morris. Chances are he sees very little action behind Shaun Alexander, but if for some reason SA goes down, I am instantly one of the favortites to pocket $15K.

QBs were a no brainer to me. I want lots of yards and lots of TD passes. Folks who skimped at this position will probably get the one good performance out of three that they require each week, but inevitably, all three scrubs will have bad performances during the same week.

As for my receivers, I gambled completely on "upside", with
the exception of Chrebet. I'm hoping Vinnie finds his old comfort zone tossing the ball to Chrebet.

Bottom line is, I had to take chances. Playing it safe is a guarantees I don't survive.

Come on folks, pony up some teams. We can keep score throughout the season. Except for scoring, it's a maintenance-free game.

I'll put together a team sometime this weekend, GoN.

timvp

Warner 16
Plummer 7
Bledsoe 5

RWilliams 68
Zereoue 25
OSmith 6
LJohnson 4

RSmith 23
Ferguson 4
McCaffrey 3
Warrick 3
TGlenn 2
Branch 2

Gonzalez 21
Wycheck 2

Christie 2
Stover 2

Washington 3
Seattle 2

I think that this team would be set if Amos or Onterrio is the real deal and if a couple of those WRs have good seasons.

Since I'm not a member, I can't track this team at that website ... correct, GoN.

That is correct. Am I in trouble?
