........After limping and gimping around on his left knee through December, McGrady was put on a two- to three-week rehab assignment on Monday to improve his conditioning. "Conditioning" was the word the team used, deliberately so.
Now, in sports, you can be conditioning to rehabilitate a surgically-repaired part -- like, "Gilbert Arenas is still conditioning his knee." Or, there's conditioning when you're not in shape -- like, "David Aldridge is conditioning, and we hope he'll be able to finish the mile-and-a-half run sometime in the next decade."
So, which is it with McGrady?
"He's conditioning," Rockets GM Daryl Morey said Tuesday. "Tracy said it himself. He wants to do his off-season conditioning program. So that's what he's doing."
That's great. Except ... it's not the offseason.
"He couldn't do it in the offseason because of the (knee) surgery," Morey said.
If this were someone else, it probably wouldn't be that big of a deal. But it's McGrady, who disclosed on the Rockets' media day, four months after his May knee surgery, that the knee was about "75, 80 percent," and also said he would probably need shoulder surgery after the '08-09 season was over, despite having had that cleaned out in the offseason, too.
Hence, no offseason conditioning program.
The Rockets are putting a positive spin on this, but Waiting for Tracy is a play that nobody in Houston wants to see anymore -- up to and including the big man, Yao Ming.
"They don't speak," an extremely plugged-in person tells me. "And Yao wants him out."
That's not likely this season, as McGrady's $20.3 million is toxic to too many teams' luxury tax plans. Next summer, though, when McGrady will have an expiring, $22.4 million contract, teams may well circle the Rockets looking to make a deal.......

not suprised at all, Yao is quite a high-character guy, and someone that seems to really care about winning and doing the right think. I love TMac's talents, he was born to play this game, but his psyche is that of a total loser. Too bad really, there was a time circa 01-03 when I thought we had a chance to be better than Kobe.
bullshit, if it was true Yao wouldn't have said it to the media, if you believe these rumours, the joke is on you

Eh...he didn't say it to the media. Somone "involved" said it.
But its probably true. Im sure everyone on that team is unbelievably sick of T-Mac.

I remember playing organized basketball. All it takes is one player on your team to act like a spoiled prima donna to screw your entire team chemistry up. You start yelling at each other in practice. The other dude pouts. Perhaps they start playing their own way and hogging the ball. Coach tries to step in but it doesn't help. Might run a few plays the way coach wants it but eventually goes back to ball hogging and pouting.

wow. man, when they first got T-Mac, I thought for sure these guys would end up winning a title together. But injuries and JVG pissing away playoff series that they should have won, completely ruined them. There was no excuse for them not to beat the Mavericks in 04-05 as well as the Jazz in 06-07.

The reasons for those losses was lack of talent. When other teams can depend on their depth to sustain them for stretches it makes a huge difference in a series. That's what I don't understand about this season. When you finally get a team that can potentially win it all why act like a bitch now? I for one can't wait to see his ass traded.

He's hurt just like Battier is hurt. They both should be sat down right now to heal.
However T-Mac's insistence on playing has hurt the team more than if he just sat down. Both in terms of chemistry and poor play in the court.
Fran Blineberry, commonly known as the mcgrady hater even admits this is false.
Fran,
What do you make of the David Aldridge report that Yao wants TMac out of Houston? Any indication from what you've seen that this could be true?

[That statement is flat out not true. I know that from first-hand observation. --Fran]
[Here's what I can tell you from first-hand observation. 1 -- I have frequently heard McGrady tell all of us in the media that he would like to see Yao shoot the ball and take over games. What he might have said to a friend privately, I can't say. But I have seen no evidence of jealousy. 2 -- The statement that Yao and McGrady do not speak is just not true. Here's what I saw on Saturday night prior to the Knicks game: McGrady, who was not playing, stopped by his locker to pick up a few things. He then walked to the other side of the room, where leaned down and to Dikembe Mutombo and said, "Hello, Papa." After exchanging a few other words, McGrady walked to where Yao was sitting in front of his locker, talking to reporters, and he leaned in and tapped him on the shoulder. He asked Yao how he was feeling. They chatted briefly and then McGrady left. With all of that, as I posted in the blog on Saturday, there are many -- likely a majority -- of players in the locker room who have not been happy wtih McGrady's play-or-not-play, in-and-out-of-the-lineup status for much of the season. And there were many who were furious with his "effort" in the Toronto game. I think the entire team is happier now that a decision has been made to keep both McGrady and Ron Artest out of the lineup in order to rehab and get healthy. They want consistency. They want to know who is in the lineup every night and they want to know that the players who play are physically capable and ready to go all-out. --Fran]

Yao just showed his willingness that is also held by other rockets and rocketsfans, but they all know it's unfeasible. No team want tmac who occupies 22m salary space yet doing less than what is being done by Wafer who just gets 440k from his team this year.

T-Mac needs a disciplinarian coach like Van Gundy. Doesn't work on a squad like the Rockets with a soft nice guy like Adelman. Van Gundy would not have tolerated this behavior from T-Mac. For some reason, Van Gundy knows how to work on the mind of T-Mac to get the most out of him.

The video of the Yao interview
Here's a new article about the situation. Guess T-Mac is back to the Orlando T-Mac again.
Houston, they've got a problem
McGrady having issues with Rockets
January 15, 2009
The e-mail popped into my in-box and I laughed. Really, I laughed.
A guy named Lance Zierlein wants me to come on his Houston radio show.
Why?
To talk about Tracy McGrady.
"I would love to get you on my sports talk show here in Houston, to discuss your article regarding T-Mac from 2005," the e-mail said. "We gave you grief back then, but you look like a soothsayer these days."
Soothsayer?
I don't think so. I'm just a guy who applied a little common sense back when Me-Mac was with the Orlando Magic. If you looked beyond McGrady's enormous and inarguable talent -- difficult to do, I know, as his talent is intoxicating -- you see things. I saw things. There's a reason why we called him Me-Mac.
I guess I've played and been around sports long enough to be able to pick up on things. I call it my "Wizard of Oz" test. It's how I try to determine what is missing in an athlete. Heart? A brain? Courage?
With Me-Mac, I noticed deficiencies in all three.
You see, at the elite athletic level, where the talent is so equal, it's often an athlete's heart, head or drive and determination that makes all the difference.
The great ones -- like Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods and Derek Jeter -- have it. Tim Tebow has it.
And if you don't have it . . . well, the Wizard isn't going to be able to give it to you. Some athletes develop those traits. Most, like Tracy McGrady, never do.
So, judging by the e-mail, I guess they're finally fed up with Me-Mac in Houston, the team Orlando traded him to in 2004. Evidently, there are fresh questions as to whether he's malingering again. Shocking, I know, given his track record in Orlando.
Houston should've known better. The Rockets should've done a little more due diligence. Or just applied a little more common sense.
In his last season in Orlando, McGrady openly admitted he tanked on his team. He also openly complained about his teammates. Finally, he demanded a trade when the Magic told him they were going to draft a high school kid named Dwight Howard.
In other words, no heart, head or courage.
Back then, I went way out on a limb in writing that the Magic should -- no, needed to -- trade McGrady. Here's what I wrote:
"He doesn't work hard, doesn't play defense, rarely practices, routinely criticizes his teammates, quits, and is turning into a one-dimensional perimeter shooter who doesn't like to mix it up in the paint."
Once again, no heart, head or courage.
Have you noticed now that when the NBA's best players are discussed -- guys like Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Dwyane Wade -- Tracy McGrady's name is no longer in the mix? He is the Penny Hardaway of his generation.
Houston, you have a problem.
Me-Mac has never led a team beyond the first round of the playoffs. That's saying something for a guy who's been in the league since 1997. He turns 30 on May 24, so there's still time. But one thing's for sure, if the Rockets or any other team McGrady might play for in the future, does win a playoff series, it won't be because he led them. He just doesn't have it in him to lead.
But he does have it in him to whine.
When Houston was losing to the Utah Jazz in the first round of the playoffs last season, McGrady threw his head coach, Rick Adelman, and his teammate, Carl Landry, under the bus, the former for not having bigger players in the game and the latter for not grabbing a rebound.
It prompted Houston Chronicle columnist Richard Justice to call McGrady clueless and unprofessional. It also produced a spate of bloggers in Houston, raking Me-Mac over the coals. The honeymoon was obviously over.
Now a Houston radio station wants me to talk more about it. I will, if they want. But I don't think they need me to tell them what they now already know. After all, it's not like I'm a soothsayer, or a wizard.

If we can hold the truce together for the rest of the season, we'll be ok. T-Mac got to go maybe not this season but he'll be gone next season because he's an expiring contract.
Yao doesn't get enough touches when T-Mac plays. T-Mac just stands on the perimeter and jacks up shots and he's been horrible at making them. Yao is the hardest most diligent worker on the Rockets team. I'd be pissed off at my teammate who was slacking while I was working my @$$ off.

If he comes in, ready to work and play hard, and within the system, it can be repaired, if he comes in still acting like he is bigger than the team....they will probably trade him or tell him to go home, and make up some "Shutting him down for the season" deal and trade him in the offseason.

Don't believe everything you read
Hey everyone,
I know there’s been a lot of talk out there about problems between me and Yao, most of which began with the article on NBA.com. Normally I don’t get concerned or involved with all that, and don’t want to respond to each false rumor or accusation that ends up somewhere on the internet or on a talk radio show, however the article by David Aldridge struck a nerve. The accusations in the article about me and Yao having problems and Yao wanting me out of Houston are just plain ridiculous. Yao and I have a great relationship. We are not only teammates, we are friends. Yao’s personally told me that the info in the article is untrue, and we both feel that it’s another example of the media trying to divide our locker room and create something out of nothing. Aren’t there enough real stories out there to report on?
So to all the Rockets fans out there, there’s no need to worry about problems in the locker room and between players. We’re all tight and we are all focused on our goal, and that is to bring a championship to Houston.
And next time David Aldridge, get your facts straight.

Tmac is lying.....he is not welcome in the locker room right now....if he comes back in shape and ready to work, he will get another chance....
But right now, he is not the most popular player around Rockets land.

All this crap does is lower your trade value and diminish your own fanbase thus cutting your source of off court revenue. T-Mac is pretty stupid and as far as having any common sense, he's not a team leader who leads by example. He's claiming injury and he's in he's out he's in he's out. He speaks in innuendo and press leaks. All of which is completely clueless. No brains, no desire, and no court production. The three strikes of basketball.
On the other hand, during the offseason Kobe threw a fit and threw Andrew Bynum under the bus. He demanded a trade and said that Mitch Kupcheck wasn't getting him the help that he needed to win a title. But Kobe got away with it because why? Kobe's game speaks for itself. He can get away with acting like a spoiled brat. Both T-Mac and Kobe are Prima Donnas only Kobe gets away with it because he produces while T-Mac whines and his game disappears. If Kobe's game disappeared like T-Mac's you can bet the fans would have been calling for his head too.

Marion would be good, but what we really need is a PG...if we could get Hinrich away from Chicago for him....that would be ideal.

Aside from Lebron and Kobe, who can you get for 22 mil a year? The obvious choice is D-Wade.
He can flat out ball and he goes 100 percent all the time.
