What is the deal here? How can he still have an ankle sprain since August? Manu was operated on and returned in less time? Has Pop just written him off? The press doesn't even update his progress or lack of. Why not just waive him?

If I am not wrong, spurs sent him to see a specialist in LA, about his angle not getting well for such a long time.

You are correct.

OK, here's the scoop but I am going to have to go into hiding after I tell you because Pop will have me shipped to and tortured in an eastern European country if finds out I said anything....

Ian is healthy. He has been secretly training with David Robinson and Artis Gilmore at the Spurs practice facility in the wee hours of the morning. Word is he is more dominant than big Dave was at this age and they are going to activate him right before the deadline for being on the roster for the playoffs.

But you can't tell anyone.

They sent him to a specialist because they weren't sure why there was blood [sic] in his ankle. Blood was a translation from a french article so I'm wondering if it meant scar tissue. If there was pooling of blood in his ankle then that's very bad. If it was scar tissue then not as bad. As for the sentence, "Why not just waive him?" well I don't think anyone should take that seriously.

I guess I should clarify. If it's blood pooling in the ankle and they don't know why, then that's bad. If they know why (certain blood vessels are leaking/rupturing) then they can probably fix it.

Re-read his second paragraph and think real hard about what you're asking.

Right, I never thought we should waive him, I just seriously didn't know why it was taking so long for an ankle. Thanks

Yes, Ian learns via Powerpoint presentations through webinars from A-Train in Jacksonville.

OK --don't waive him and don't trade him to Houston for nothing. My point was that he is a cast member of LOST. I'd like to at least have the press inquire as to his status: Not this year but we love his potential for 2009. Any INTELLIGENT clarification would be an improvement. The guy hasn't played that much in his career and has an ankle that requires a year to mend. Why?

They have been asking. Pop says he doesn't know anything and when the trainers let him know, he'll let the press know. Ian had been participating in non-contact drills maybe 3 weeks ago. Haven't heard much about it since.

it is nice david is still helping players out. thought he would be more focused on his school. I wonder is tim mentoring ian or is ian already progressed past tim's skills?

I heard of this one guy, not sure if he's done anything, by the name of Manu Ginobili.

Everyone needs to stop expecting ANYTHING from Mahinmi. Not only is he not ready, he can't stay healthy long enough to improve on anything. Right now, Tiago Splitter has a better chance of helping the Spurs before Mahinmi will.

His health is the big issue, not his skill. This kid has improved with each passing year and seems to have a solid offensive skill set to play in the NBA. I'm not saying he's all-star material, but he brings a different skill set than any other big on the Spurs roster.

Down the stretch that athleticism and toughness inside may be needed, so I understand all the precaution and deliberate caution they're taking with his situation now.

It'd be nice to hear an update with him, but it's way to early to count him out...for this season or the next two.

Well, August to January is 6 months not a year. His first ankle injury was a partially torn ligament, which can take up to 3 months to heal properly (and then you have to get conditioning back, etc.), the second ankle injury was a severe sprain. He was sent to a specialist about a month ago because one of the injuries wasn't healing properly.
