Investors been such a beacon of light to us throughout this entire recession. Where would we have ever been without credit default swaps and the oil speculators?

Yup. Market means nothing to me. I dont work for a publicly traded company and am not old enough to have significant investments.

If anything, this recession just reinforces my disdain for those whose career consists of trading wealth. As if thats some important role in society.

They (the bankers, traders, financial houses, etc) do not make anything. They sell nothing. They trade value between others like themselves, a value based on a real company that, you know, produces shit.

Markets are the last scam of captialism. /rant

They partake in risk others will not. Not enough, but still some.

The government produces nothing and steals from all; yet the people hate the movers and shakers. America is great.

The government built and maintains most of the infrastructure you take for granted, both physical and social institutions.

Sure, the balance between the govt. and the private sector is problematic, but don't pretend that govts. "produce nothing".

Eh, I've seen the Government at work.

As the great Ronald Regan said

"Government isn't the solution to the problem, government IS the problem"

"The Great"... :lmao

So, not too keen on defence, police, roads, railways, ports, airports, public transport, hospitals, courts, etc etc etc.

Government is internal to modern democracy. Could it be done better? Yes, certainly. Is it essential to civilisation? To some extent. Get used to it.

If you think things are fucked up now wait until congress tries to fix things.

That will go down as an epic quote.

What risk? The risk to lose their jobs? The risk to hurting their company resulting in a massive golden parachute to early retirement? They took MASSIVE risks on loans they weren't even associated with in order to make a quick buck on the turnaround.

Wow. You must be in some crazy land of denial if you think the government hasn't ever produced anything or helped the needy. Just.... wow.

Citi is not even close to being a strong bank, and is likely to be taken over within the next 12 months.

i think all the govts today in the last few months who started to bailout companys with tax money,

they were better off buying back those companys (privatesed in the past)and keeping it under govt control and sell out when the market recovers....
