Rockets forward Ron Artest is the team's second leading scorer at 16 points per game.

The bone scan and MRI performed on Ron Artest’s troublesome right ankle showed enough improvement for him to return to practice tomorrow, but not enough to put a timetable on his return to the court.

Rockets athletic trainer Keith Jones said Artest and Tracy McGrady could return to practice tomorrow and if that goes well, practice again on Saturday on the road trip before a decision would be made about when they might return. He said he was marginally optimistic that they could play in New York on Monday.
With both, Rockets coach Rick Adelman said he was determined not to return to the pattern of changing lineups each game.
"That’s great that that happened," Adelman said of Artest’s encouraging test results. I have to see him on the floor. I have to see how he is reacting, how he plays. It was terrific news, but I guess I’m not going to get too elated. We’ll deal with how Ron practices if he practices tomorrow. I’ve given up on timetables. Those guys, if they’re going to play in the games, they have to go out and practice."
Mutombo goes to Washington
Rockets center Dikembe Mutombo described his experience at Barack Obama’s inauguration Tuesday in two ways, very joyous and very cold.
"It was just very cold yesterday, even though it was one of the great, historical moments of my lifetime," Mutombo said. "That place was freezing. I think I’ve been living in Texas the past five years. I forgot what it’s like going in a place where it is very cold and being outside for like eight hours. I was not prepared for that. I had my jacket, my hat and forgot my gloves. And I did not wear proper shoes. I was trying to look pretty instead of trying to protect myself.
"I had a wonderful time yesterday, but I froze myself to death. My toes were freezing. I enjoyed it so much. It was a moment to cry, but it was a moment for joy as well. It was a big change in this beautiful country we’ve been living in for so many years."
Mutombo, however, did make a friend from Michigan with an extra pair of gloves. And with the reasoning that the gloves fit so he must ticket, Mutombo will reward his well-prepared new friend with tickets to Sunday’s Rockets game in Detroit. Jazz have plenty of firepower

With Jazz forward Andrei Kirilenko listed as doubtful (he did not play), the Rockets faced some of the uncertainty about their opponent they have caused other teams this season. Rockets coach Rick Adelman, however, said when playing the Jazz, the game plan never changes. "I think they’re going to do what they do," Adelman said. "Deron Williams is playing. We’re probably going to see pick-and-rolls in the fourth quarter. Jerry (Sloan’s) teams play the same."
