I am dumbfounded by these numbers. Bowen was close to starting but Amare took large leads late, however Bruce ends up beating Ron Artest by 30,000 votes, Melo by 55,000 and Dirk by nearly 300,000 :wow

Who the fuck voted for this guy cause I honestly did not. Additionally considering how Pop's saving him this season ... :downspin:

LMAO! this truly is hilarious!

I have no idea WHO voted for him or WHY.
Then again, he's been one of the best defenders this past decade and I don't think has won the defensive player of the year award.

But beating out Melo, Dirk and other..... I've got nothing!

Does this mean he's going to play???

mystargtr34
01-22-2009, 08:35 PM
We should have after the 3rd returns, although he was still a few hundred thousand votes behind. Maybe fans all over the world started to give him votes after seeing him relatively close to the second starting spot just to try and make a mockery of the voting.

:lmao damn how did we miss this.

I was a bit skeptical, yet the numbers work. But why? Why all of a sudden this year, especially when Bowen hasnt been starting or playing heavy minutes?

The Nba is Rigged.

Yeah, they just love the Spurs and all the revenue they bring in. All that money we lose going over the luxury tax helps out the other teams in the L as well. Overall, you'd have to say all 4 of our championships were won playing 5 v 8, the refs being in our pocket of course.

I voted for Bowen every time..

there wasn't an alternative for me..

Dirk has become underrated, but he's a choker, so he loses my respect..Amare is a soft, selfish, piece of shit..Carmelo endangers lives with his drunk driving, and he also slaps people and runs away..

I seriously think China recognizes game and they voted TP, Manu, Bowen, Duncan and Yao. :smokin

That actually might very well be the case, there's a lot of fans from chinawho happen to love the spurs. On top of that, one of the reasons I think bruce bowen got so many votes is because when I loggedon to vote for the all-star game, I saw bruce bowen's name at the near top of the list for forwards. It was weird seeing his name there out of nowhere, but nevertheless I voted for him. GO BRUCE!

I am pretty sure that the Voting this year was rigged... first off, no way did Chris Paul end up beating Mcgrady in votes, he was 200k votes behind Paul at the time of the last returns.

The only thing I can think of, is maybe the Yao and Mcgrady feud pushed China to vote for Paul.

Do the Spurs still bring in "groups" just to punch out ballots for them? I know they used to. It is part of why I always thought it so two-faced to act as if they did not care about All-Star games.

I'm guessing that a bunch of Spurs fans just voted all Spurs guys. It is extremely weird. I kept checking the ticker at the bottom of the sports channels to make sure I wasn't going blind. That's insane. I've never voted for Bowen. Hell, I've never voted for Manu either.

There are a lot of weird things about the ballot results. The amount of votes Bowen received is not that strange by comparison. Bowen was voted behind Duncan, Anthony, Stoudemire, Artest, Nowitzki & Gasol, but in front of Battier, Scola, Howard & Aldridge. Maybe a little strange, but not that far fetched.
Dwight Howard got more vote than Kobe or LeBron, which is infinitely more interesting.
Of course, Howard didn't have much competition at his position in the east.
I think that a huge swing in international voting would account for the amount of votes that Ginobili & Parker received, but they are actually better than everyone they were voted ahead of.
There are a lot of people in China and Yao is probably the best center in the west, but
Jianlian should not have even been on the ballot. Third best forward in the east? That is ridiculous. C'mon China! Jianlian is beter than Pierce? Bosh? Anybody else on the ballot? I don't think so.
Allen Iverson is great, but he doesn't deserve to start. Not this year. Devin Harris got robbed. Joe Johnson & Jameer Nelson were last? Criminal.
Samuel Dalembert only beat Rasheed Wallace by less than 2k votes, but seriously, how does that happen?
And how did Greg Oden get more votes than Chandler, Jefferson & Camby. Is anyone paying attention?

Bowen was voted in front of everyone in the first half of your sentence barring Stoudemore, as well as the others. That's what so crazy.

Bowen also beat Tony Parker, Steve Nash, Brandon Roy, and Andrew Bynum in total votes to name a few in the West. Just for fun, out East he also beat Paul Pierce, Chris Bosh, Vince Carter, and Devin Harris, along with every center but Dwight Howard by miles.

Your information is wrong. Bowen received 509,593 votes. Ginobili (669,837) and Parker (614,939) both have more.

It's pretty simple if you ask me

For years, Bruce has been the best one on one defender, but people were overcome by his shadow of cheating supposedly. Now when when Spurs play Mavs, or Lakers, or Any Rivalry team of which Bruce guarded their best player, it's kind of dull.

REmember how intense the kobe/bruce rivalry was, Bruce use to make kobe take a lot of shots to get his points, not all the time, but he was pretty damn good, kobe even said bruce was the best defender he's played against.

I think now people miss the guy :lol

Next year, since he isn't a starter anymore, Bowen probably won't be on the ballot.:depressed

Brilliant strategy by the Spurs, though, to get the schools involved. They need to expand it next year, and have Coyote visits promised for the top 5 schools, ballot wise. That would get more schools revved up. A smaller school that may not think they can get the most ballots filled out may go all out to make the top 5, seeing that as a makeable goal.

Told you so. The Spurs have groups who punch ballots for them but who do not actually attend the game.

And? People who vote online don't attend the games, either.

I would assume for all the people that like players like Kobe, Lebron, whoever there's also a lot of haters. Bruce Bowen is the antithesis of those guys, not flashy, just a strong defender who gets under their skin. I'm sure there's more than one reason thou why all the spurs went up in votes.

I heard he put out a blog stating anyone that didn't vote for him was getting a kick to the face like Wally got.

I, for one, voted for him out of sheer fear of that.

EVERY team does it. I live in Houston and saw a news report on it.

I watched a Portland game on League Pass and THEY did a report on it.

It's not cheating and its not wrong, so don't even go there.
