The temp is above freezing so we're thinking about venturing out to Detroit for the afternoon. Anything cool to see?
PS - I have my body armor packed and ready.

The casinos in Canada. Had I been running on more the 5 hours of sleep when I was there that's what I would have done.

Detroit Institute of Arts (http://www.dia.org/)
Anyone of the casinos (Greektown, MGM or MotorCity...I suggest MGM)
If you'd like to catch something to eat and walk around (and so on), checkout Greektown (http://www.motorcityrocks.com/greek.htm). Lots to do and eat there.

I'd say museums, but I'm an art geek so that's always my response. Seeing the Rivera murals would be pretty fucking cool, though.

The Glory Hole theme park.
when i was hiking in the ozarks, i saw this sign and had to take a picture. the glory hole was actually a massive hole in the ground on top of a cliff.

6 Mile and McNichols. Body armor won't help you down there and don't look for the police to help you either. Also, traffic lights are only a suggestion within city limits.
Stick to the 'burbs -- Novi, Birmingham, Royal Oak, Dearborn, etc. The City of Detroit is only decent in the warmer months.
Here are some nice pics to illustrate just how many people have left the city in the last few decades. It's pretty crazy:

Luckily, Manny is from San Antonio, where people know what Mexican food is supposed to taste like. You honestly think he'd waste his time with Detroit's weak attempt at Mexican food?
Get a rope!

I'm guessing midge also has a pretty good idea of what Mexican food is supposed to taste like.
If it was me, I woulda gone to Tiger Stadium and see where Reggie hit the monster homer in 1971. If they'd hadn't of torn it down. Ha, that's what I woulda done.

If Jarvi is still conducting, the Detroit Symphony has made great strides towards being in the upper tier of American orchestras

To be a mass tourist, for me, is to become a pure late-date American: alien, ignorant, greedy for something you cannot ever have, disappointed in a way you can never admit. It is to spoil, by way of sheer ontology, the very unspoiledness you are there to experience. It is to impose yourself on places that in all noneconomic ways would be better, realer, without you. It is, in lines and gridlock and transaction after transaction, to confront a dimension of yourself that is as inescapable as it is painful: As a tourist, you become economically significant but existentially loathsome, an insect on a dead thing.
