KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)—Herm Edwards, the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/kan/;_ylt=ArUDdDy0ke80izIZPHRAdCIdsLYF) during the worst two-year span in team history, was fired Friday.

Edwards goes out with a three-year regular-season record of 15-33 and with one year remaining on a four-year, $12 million contract. As head coach of the New York Jets (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/nyj/;_ylt=AuSPNJILjnzCYnBmiSo8XoQdsLYF) in 2001-05, he had a regular-season mark of 39-41 and was 2-3 in the playoffs.

Edwards had been waiting to learn his fate since president and general manager Carl Peterson abruptly resigned on Dec. 15. When Scott Pioli was introduced as Peterson’s successor on Jan. 13, he was noncommittal and said only that he intended to speak with Edwards.

“This was not an easy decision. Herm is an outstanding football coach and a man of integrity. We appreciate his leadership over the past three seasons, and we wish him all the best in the future,” Chiefs owner Clark Hunt said in a written statement.

Thank God Herm is finally gone.

Hopefully the Shanny rumors are true.

Where does Herm Edwards fit? You would think by now he would try something else like Defensive Coordinator or maybe NCAA.

Thank God!!!!!!!

I've already lost the Braves as my baseball team due to one of the worst front offices. I was on the verge of losing the Chiefs even with such promising young talent.

That would be crazy :downspin: if shanahan came to the chiefs, considering being arival for so long. But at last the Chiefs would get a benefit from a rival team instaed of trading a player to a rival team.

BTW in the article I read herm said he wants to be a DB coach or TV job. I wish him the best but seriosly had to prepare myself for exactly what happend when he was hired. Hopefully the former NE gm can turn things around.

I would like Herm as Raiders DC. He is a 4-3 guy, and not many seem to be that anymore.

I bet all of you $500 that the Colts announce Herm Edwards as their new secondary coach within 72 hours.
