In the other thread several other people mentioned Cleveland trading for Amare and they would be incredibly dumb to do that. Amare would obviously spend all his time at power forward and not center. He has shown that he is a lot more limited offensively as a 4 as oppose to a 5, and his defense still sucks. More importantly, look at the Suns decision making process in recent years:
2006-2007 season: After a controversial exit from the playoffs Amare has his annual late May early June press conference about how much he wants to get better and how much better his defense will be the next year.
They trade James Jones who became useless once Amare came back. The only free agent seasoned and smart enough to play with Amare signs with the Suns (Grant Hill). A relatively unproductive off season because Sarver is convinced Amare getting suspended was not Amare's wrong doing, it was bad luck, and with the new and improved Amare the Suns could dump KT's interior defense for nothing and it would be fine. He hires a puppet GM who won't have the balls to disagree.
2007-2008 season: After much pressure from Kerr and Sarver D'antoni runs the offense through Amare. Similar to Amare, they dominate the weaker competition, suck against better teams, and look a lot better than they really are because of an easy 1st half schedule. Still, the dumping of KT made their interior D so bad even Kerr spoke up about it.
Since Marion clearly didn't get along with prince Amare, Sarver was convinced Marion was the newest reason why Amare wasn't scoring 40 PPG while playing hall of fame defense and Amare would dominate once he was moved to power forward without having to deal with Marion being a cancer. This led to trading for Shaq and throwing Marion under the bus even after all he had done for the Suns.
They falter after the Shaq trade because the media made everyone forget about all that Marion did at the time of the Marion trade. Just like the 2007 season, Diaw, Raja, Hill and Barbosa all become increasingly inconsistent down the stretch once the ball is forced into Amare more and more.
And even more like the 2007 season, Amare has a monster series against San Antonio statistically but all of those stats came in the 1st half of games and several dumb errors made by Amare late in game 1 and 2 caused a loss.
More to the point, there is a new scapegoat as to why Amare didn't carry the Suns to a title, D'antoni. The media led a campaign to drive D'antoni out of town because he didn't get Amare the ball enough in the playoffs, even though they were best in the playoffs when they went to Diaw . Amare bought into this and threw the coach that turned him into an elite scorer under the bus saying he wants to be the go to guy and D'antoni is too stubborn to make him the go to guy.
Surprised that D'antoni isn't the only person in the world who thinks Amare isn't a franchise player, Kerr eventually stumbles upon Terry Porter, a notorious yes man who Kerr could boss around.
For the 3rd straight year, there is little to no off season improvement because everyone is under the impression Amare will take his game to the next level and he'll put the Suns on his back. In addition, D'antoni has become the root of every problem the Suns ever had and Porter will use the bench full of unused talent, turn them into the defensive team they're capable of being, and finally get Amare to reach his potential.
2008-2009 season: Turning Amare into a half court scorer and a great defensive player isn't as easy as Kerr and Porter said it would be. In the process of trying to turn Amare into Tim Duncan, they turn the ball over at a ridiculous rate trying to force it into someone who had absolutely no idea how to get open in the post. They also kill the confidence of both rookies who were supposed to be good and further shorten the bench because only a few players are able to be remotely productive playing with Amare. No worries, they just need a good 2-guard to free Amare up. They trade two players disgruntled with playing for a team where Amare has more power than the coach.
The two players no longer playing with Amare immediately start playing up to their potential, J-Rich immediately losses confidence and becomes way less productive. Now Porter is being blamed for killing Amare's confidence and that D'antoni should come back, even though Porter was supposed to be to Amare what Popovich is to Duncan. Shaq is somehow being blamed for Amare's struggles because he's a "ball hog" and he takes Amare out of the offense even though Amare received no blame when he made Diaw useless.
Now people are starting to figure out that MAYBE Amare is the one with the problem rather than Stern, Marion, D'antoni, Diaw, Bell, Porter, and Shaq. Cleveland doesn't want this bum.
