what was the reason we got rid of elson again? i mean of course this guy might not come back but we did win a championship with the guy. to me he played well in the playoffs in 07 he was a nice shotblocker too, remmber that game last season, it was early in the season and we were facing the mavs and he made that clutch block at the end? that was nice. :hat so what was the reason we got rid of him again?

He called Pop a sissy.

I think that's why Pop opted to grow the beard, if I'm not mistaken...

Elson was absolutely horrible last year..

More recently (Saturday) he had this line:

F.Elson 34:36 5-11 0-0 0-2 +6 6 6 12 2 4 5 2 2 0 10

Ten points and twelve boards for Elson.

I think it is because at the championship celebration, he said-
"World Champions!!... World F***ing Champions!!!"

It was well documented that he had a very low basketball IQ and struggled with Pop's system (not to mention the stone hands). I have no regrets for trading him to help bring in KT, because Thomas is by far the better player and brings more to the table. I would however, welcome back Elson now at his current salary to come off the bench and even start a few games because we wouldn't have to rely on him as much as we did when he was on the roster the first time.

Elson is playing the best basketball of his career since he left the Spurs. Or maybe even since he joined the NBA. Too bad he's not in good terms with some of our players, otherwise he'd be a good option off the bench, as the 4th big. With the Bucks now probably going downhill and missing the play-offs (Redd's injury), he's probably available for peanuts (money, 2nd round pick).

Elson couldn't catch on to the defense, missed the majority of his rotations, and was in everyone's way on offense. He just wasn't smart enough and didn't fit into the scheme of things here.

He was bad....but not nearly as bad as Nazr. I cringed every time the ball went to him.

At least Naz had a jumper and some idea of what could be done with the ball when in one's hands. He did alright in 2005...Elson never really instilled any confidence in me during his tenure with the team.

KT and Naz are much better than Elson, no argument.

But Elson cost virtually nothing and he contributed more than some more heralded bigs that cost the Spurs a little more than nothing.

Nazr airballed 2 dunks in the 2005 Finals against Detroit. I had never seen anyone airball a dunk and he did it twice.....and I can remember seeing games since 1980.

I love how all the sudden everyone misses this guy. He was one of the most hated Spurs on this board for the season and 1/2 that he was with the team.

Because he sucked beyond belief. He makes Bonner look like an All Star.

Elson was just like Ian is. When healthy lost on the court. Only Ian's been using the ankles as his excuse. And the Spurs dont want to let go of Ian because he may be what Bynum is to the Lakers.

Actually, Elson and Oberto completed each other perfectly at the C position.

Elson wasn't the brightest guy but he could jump, dunk, block, run the floor with TP.

Oberto doesn't have Elson's physical abilities, the guy can barely jump (even Farmar and Fisher can outrebound him, ugh) but he is smart and crafty.

so am I, and I'm under 6 feet.

There's a difference between being a better shotblocker than Oberto and being a "nice shotblocker."
