Elton Brand is available according to Chad Ford from ESPN:
http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=24743

He questions whether there are any takers based on his play this year and his large contract. I think he would be ideal to fit the Spurs' needs. Having said that there are some elements that we have to keep in mind.

Pros:
1) Elite big man. This could be our Gasol trade.
2) Despirate need for a big man right now.

Cons:
1) Large contract which would take us out of the 2010 market.
2) Hasn't played well so far this year, and has had at least one significant injury this season, not to mention last years which was huge.

So my questions are:
1) We all know that 2010 is a long shot anyway as most of the great FAs will go to NY, NJ, etc. So do we really have a shot to get Bosh, Wade, Lebron, etc.?
2) Are Brand's poor numbers so far because he isn't fitting in Philly, and just wants out or is he over the hill? Remember he did great when he came back from injury last year. Would he rebound in SA?
3) If it is a salary dump for the Sixers, do we have to include one of Hill, Mason, or Manu in the deal? I think maybe not as 1 and 2 are not their needs. If we have to trade 5 players can we go out and sign a couple of FAs for depth?

So would this trade work?
To SA:
Brand

To Philly:
Oberto
Bonner
Bowen
Vaughn
Mahinmi
Plus 1st and 2nd rounds or Tiago rights

Spurs line up after trade:
Parker
Mason
Finley
Duncan
Brand

Hill
Manu
Idoka
FA
Thomas

Love the level of intelligence of this board.

I asked some questions and instead of getting answers (positive or negative I didn't care), I get some retarded answers.

Good job guys!!!

brand is an undersized forward, not an athletic long center.

So would this trade work?
To SA:
Brand

To Philly:
Oberto -1
Bonner -2
Bowen -3
Vaughn -4
Mahinmi -5
Plus 1st and 2nd rounds or Tiago rights -6 & 7 or -6

Spurs line up after trade:
Parker
Mason
Finley
Duncan
Brand

Hill
Manu

So 6 or 7 players for 1.

just because you failed doesn't mean you can't try it again the next time a stupid trade idea pops into your head. Don't search around for another trade thread, God knows there's over 100,000 on the front page every day, and definitely don't address the needs of the team with the trade. Instead, make a whole new thread and wonder why people trash you for it.

That contract is too big. Plus he is a little injury prone. Brand would have made sense a while back. I am not saying I wouldn't like him on the Spurs squad right now, but doubt the Spurs trade for him.

i dont think it would work, but it would sure as hell be funy if the spurs did get Brand and this guy was right XD lulz

WTH is Philly supposed to do with 6-7 new players, all of whom kind of suck?

Kori Ellis
01-28-2009, 12:59 PM
Obviously the Sixers couldn't take on that many players on their roster and just give up Brand. But even with filler, the main issues are that he's often injured, makes a lot of money and his contract goes through 2013. No one wants to pay a 34 year old Elton Brand $18M.

Go for Dalembert if making a deal with Sixers (he also has a contract though that is too much). When motivated he can block and rebound with anyone.

:lol at giving up 6 players who know the system for another PF.

Short bigmen usually decline massively at around the age of 30. Not sure exactly why but I'm assuming that is the age when their athleticism declines to the point that they can no longer make up for their lack of size.

Brand is already having a bad season and he's turning 30 in March. Four more seasons on his contract after this one? No thank you.

Although Brand is a much more realistic target than most people have come up with. I'm pretty sure the Sixers would let him go in a salary dump at this point. No one is going to give them much.

It was a bad idea, sorry friend. You post something like that, you should expect what you got.

Massive fail, why not just reacquire Malik Rose? We need height and athleticism.

FYI no one on that list has any worth. Guess what? When you package 6 players with no value the resulting sum is, yup you guessed it... Worthless!

Brand is NOT what we need. He's an UNDERSIZED big man who would try to get the same looks that Tim Duncan gets. We need a LONG, ATHLETIC CENTER. Brand is neither. His contract is way too big.

portnoy1
01-28-2009, 05:31 PM
lol. spurs are kinda old and dont have much to offer, but RC is a genius and i think its about time we take all that young talent overseas that we have and bring them in.

Robertas Javotkas ht - 6-11 / age - 28 drafted by the san antonio spurs 2001. still havent brought him over. he is a younger athletic muscular big man that the spurs could use RIGHT NOW. You might have seen him, he played for the lithuanian national team 2004 and 2008. there is footage of him on youtube. just type in his name if your curious.

The Cavs could deal Wally's expiring deal for Brand. It works financially. I doubt they do it though.

Zaza Pachulia.

Very underrated big man who has a contract that makes a trade for him very doable.
