I'm sick of hearing everyone talk about Dwight Howard bringing the Dunk Contest back. That dunk wasn't that great. He had to lower himself to a Carrot Top level and use props. What is so great about a 6"11 guy throwing the ball down? It was pathetic to hear the announcers jizzing their pants when he did it- but the truth is that it wasn't that great. Below are some dunks that are all better than that prop fest last year. Brent Barry, Harold Minor, Isaiah Ryder, and Dee Brown all had better dunks.

The Dunk Contest died in 1989, when MJ and Dominique declined to enter it and Kenny "Sky" Walker won it. It's been dead ever since.

It wasnt a dunk..if he would have pulled the rim down, then the dunk would = all the hype it gets

it was a layup not a dunk. if he did it during a regular game, it would have been basket interference.

All I see is a bunch of people jealous of the next great big.... But yeah, that dunk was a layup/laydown.

View it in the context, after Vince the dunk contest has sucked.

DH has brought some excitement back into it. Something NBA fans have been waiting for.

Yea I thought it was wack... people who say that it was great have obviously never seen.. mj, wilkins, rider, webb, minor, carter in anyother contests. I thought it was suppose to be about skill and creativity? Sure it takes some creativity to slap a sticker on the backboard or even to put on a cape and do a layin. But jose barea could of done that shit.. hopefully howard doesn't try to pull that b.s. again this year

Iguodala was robbed bigger than anyone in dunk contest history. he had some fantasic and creative dunks that were overlooked because of that nate robinson bullshit.

I think Vince Carter brought life back to the slam dunk contest for that one year, 2000 was it? He did three different dunks no one has ever attempted much less seen before.

You're right, Vinsanity and Stevie Franchise did resurrect it briefly in 2000. But to paraphrase Sick Boy from Trainspotting, the 2000 Contest was merely a blip on an otherwise uninterrupted downward trajectory.

The creativity is there, but just about anyone in the nba who can dunk can do that.

Iggy's dunks were the best I've seen since Carter.

VC is just in another category altogether... That guy can seriously dunk on anybody. The best dunks I've seen IN GAME were from him.

Only one was "great" it was the one when he slapped the ball against the backboard. The others where junk you fucking homer

True, once in a while he still pulls of some kind of crazy dunk/reverse layup. The thing that really helps him is not only the jumping ability, but he has huge hands, and he can really palm the ball everyway possible.

Nothing better than nerds calling these dunks trash, okay you try throwing it off the backboard and dunking it while your head is STILL behind it (which he did), and then his other where he caught the ball in midair and windmilled it (which is extremely hard to do)

Vince is still the best dunker ever but Dwight is good. He's bringing entertainment (and good dunks) to the dunk contest but all of you just bitch and moan... I guess Birdman > Dwight since he "actually dunked it"!!11one

That's exactly it. It wasn't just a dunk. It was theater. He created a level of excitement by playing up to the crowd, creating a 'moment' that we'll all remember. Others should learn from Howards performance last year. It's center stage, and we want a show. Do something original instead of simply mimicking dunks we've all seen before.

Birdman's actual dunk was better than Dwight's backboard dunk. He came from about a foot inside the ft line off a bounce. Tim Duncan could probably do that backboard dunk.

Howard's overrated as a player(although he's a top 6 player in the NBA), and his dunk contest show was definitely overrated..I just don't care for him, he's way too corny for my liking..I also don't like his fake Christian act..

Vince is the king of the dunk, we'll never see anybody like him again..he's still a great dunker btw, as any Nets fan can tell you..he no longer does it often though..he pulled out a great reverse alley-oop a few weeks ago though..

Even if you didn't like that dunk, you gotta admit Howard got screwed on the sticker dunk in the 07 contest.

With his athleticism, if he actually placed the sticker on the top of the opposite side of the backboard, he might get the marks.

To everyone saying the dunk contest died after MJ. Have you seen these motherfuckers? VC, Iggy, Josh Smith, Gerald Green, J Rich.....they are sick and a lot of their dunks were better than MJ's. (With all due respect)
