View Full Version : What about Bowen?

That guy is taking 4 millions a year.(correct me if mistaken) Not the defender he was and no help on the offense. Only some good matches. Why not add him on the package Vaughn, Fab, Ime? It would help match the salaries and we could attract other teams with him in the package. And what could we get then? Your opinions..

This is f'ing brilliant. Why hasn't anyone thought of this before? Is our front office asleep, drunk, or what?

Here it is. Simply take the last three or four players on our bench and figure out what one good player's salary matches that combination, THEN MAKE THE TRADE.

Yes!!!! That's it!!! All our problems solved!!!!

WAKE UP SPURS. YOUR FANS DEMAND ACTION.

Exactly because of the All-Star votes we should trade him. We can get a much better player. The Big Man we need. Or a good SF which i thuink is missing too.

Another thing...Bowen will stay in San Antonio after his career is over and become a community ambassador/benefactor much like Robinson, only on a smaller scale. Those things still count in SATX. Nothing wrong with that.

The big question is...what will Tim do after he retires?

Brilliant idea. Here is my proposal.
First we get a petition going. The message on the top should be very thoughtfully written and researched as the front office isn’t going to take a “Hey let’s trade Bowen just cuz” letter. Next we get a group of people from Spurstalk together that think this should be done and get them to sign it. After that it should be easy to get them to find family and friends to go along with the idea. Once we get an agreed amount of signatures on our petition then we can elect someone from here ( not it ) to represent the fans and present it to the Spurs front office. Then after we have elected our rep we get a really nice envelope to protect it from whatever and is put together and organized professionally we should roll that sumbitch up and stick it up your ass.
Damn I am tired of you wannabe GM’s

This board is fucked.

To understand what Bowen has left in the tank, all you have to do is look at how we're playing D when he's on the bench. When he's not out there, we stop about as many people as a wet paper bag.

As for his limited minutes, that's Pop's decision. He can still play 35-38, Pop just want's to save him, while getting our new guys some PT.

It amazes me how little many of you guys understand about Spurs D. Our defense is a team defense, it doesn't hinge on a monster big man (or we never would have won any titles). It hinges on guys knowing their assignments and playing smart and aggressive.

Well, no one knows it better than Bruce, and even if he is a step slower, he's still outplaying every other spur on the defensive side of the ball.

And yet still you guys cry day after day for a dominant big man. Spurs defense doesn't need a "clean up" defender to erase mistakes IF we are playing good team D. We've won titles with Oberto, Rasho, Nazr and Elson.

I would love to see a dominant big on this team besides TD, but I'm not willing to give up on our top defender because as some of you don't realize, our defense right now is HORRIBLE, we can't get stops on good teams when we need to, and if we are going to close the gap with LA it will be by learning to play Spurs D for 48 mins once again.

At least do you think the money he is taking are OK? He is stealing us. Hill is a hell of a lot better and is taking 1/4. And Bowen was never a huge player like Manu or Tim or Tony. He was just a nice role player who helped us because of his D.

spurs_fan_in_exile
01-29-2009, 02:09 PM
Problems abound with the idea. For starters, who would want Bowen? I'm not hating on him in the least, he's a huge part of what the Spurs do, but he's a round peg in a round hole with the Spurs. Bowen plays D and offers very limited offense. The Spurs are a team that have enough scoring threats they can field a defensive specialist in heavy minutes plus a coach who emphasizes defense enough to allow that to happen. The list of teams that would want that at a $4 mil price tag is limited. Just off the top of my head the only teams that come to mind are all other teams that are fighting for a championship and probably not in the mood to turn around and just hand the Spurs exactly what they need. This isn't even taking into account that with the ridiculous contracts big men get, there may not even be a player in existence in the league who can fill the spot the Spurs need for a mere 4 mil.

One thing that might make him appealing to other teams outside that highly limited scope is that he's got a contract that comes off the books for the 2010, which would make him just as appealing for the Spurs to hold onto as well.

funny how Bowen was the only one who could hit a shot against the Lakers. He also has been showing that 18-20 ft jumper this season. I wish he would drive to the basket more, when he does, good things usually happen for the Spurs.

Only a fool would trade Bowen. He is a professional in the finest sense of the word. He is a great guy to have in the lockerroom, because of his work ethic, attention to detail, knowledge of the system, knowledge of opposing players, humility, sense of humor, and chemistry with the players. He is also a pillar in the SA community.

I am so sick of all of you disloyal fans. You disgust me. Yes he has gotten older, and yes he has lost a step or two. However, he is still a very good player, especially on defense. He still has a lot to offer this team and this city. Show some flippin loyalty for crying out loud. It isn't like he is a scrub or a cancer. Just last season he claimed his 5th consecutive 1st Team All-Defense Award.

IMO, you will see more of Bruce after the all-star break. His minutes and productivity should increase. I have a feeling our defense will get better as a result.

This will be his final contract with the Spurs. After everything he has given the team and the city, he deserves to be allowed to finish that contract and retire as a Spur.

I said this for Manu, but it's even more important when it comes to Bowen..Bruce means a lot more to our team than he would to any other team, and it's been like that for years..he fits perfectly for this team..

Bowen at his peak was EASILY the best perimeter defender in the NBA..easily..so the fact that he's lost a step doesn't mean much, it just "lowers" him down to a top 5 perimeter defender, which he's clearly shown most of the time he's been on the court this season..I can't really think of many guys I would take ahead of him in that regard..Battier, Ariza(all-around D), Posey off the top of my head..

we're 10-1 when Bowen plays 25 minutes or more..

For all those who love to use the F word. Please continue to use it in this thread. Dont stop please. Once again. Please dont stop. With this one thread I can make this site better for me and my family. And Im sure it would help new people who have plans on joining one of the only Spurs sites that has alot of good things going on all the time.

That's wonderful. I can almost hear the birds chirping now......

Having said that, please quit wasting my time by posting about your moral crusade. If you're putting people on ignore, just do it already. No need to announce it. Thank you in advance. :toast

I suppose another follow up question to ask is: Who has he played 25 or more minutes against?

He's done, finished, kaput. Officially he's being saved for playoffs...better be fucking brilliant there.

That guy is taking 4 millions a year.(correct me if mistaken) Not the defender he was and no help on the offense. Only some good matches. Why not add him on the package Vaughn, Fab, Ime? It would help match the salaries and we could attract other teams with him in the package. And what could we get then? Your opinions..

you two, get a room.

Bruce can still defend. And Championships are built on defense. So he's staying.

You got that right. The Spurs are a class act. Its to bad alot of their fans are class......less

The only difference between you and the fans you call classless is that you don't swear.
