Some of the NBA’s elite point guards won’t soon forget the past few days, but not for preferable reasons. Three — including two All-Stars and another player who would be high on the list of potential injury replacements — have been sidelined with injuries of varying severity.

JAMEER NELSON, MAGIC

Injury: Torn labrum in his right shoulder Monday vs. Mavericks.

Playing status: Could miss the rest of the season, including next weekend’s All-Star Game (he’s an Eastern Conference reserve).

Fallout: According to the Associated Press, Nelson will decide over the next week whether he will have season-ending surgery or attempt rehabilitation; he’s out several weeks regardless. The injury leaves the Southeast-leading Magic with a major hole: Orlando does not have a third point guard behind backup Anthony Johnson. The Magic likely will have to sign another point guard, or convert shooting guards J.J. Redick and Courtney Lee.

CHRIS PAUL, HORNETS

Injury: Mild groin strain Monday vs. Trail Blazers.

Playing status: Listed as day-to-day, putting his All-Star Game status (he’s a starter for the West) in question.

Fallout: Paul walked out of the New Orleans Arena with a slight limp, saying only that he hurt himself when he “stepped wrong.” Without him, the Hornets blew a 17-point late-third-quarter lead and lost by eight. Meanwhile, if Paul misses the All-Star Game, the Spurs’ Tony Parker could wind up starting for the West.

DERON WILLIAMS, JAZZ

Injury: Out Monday vs. Bobcats with a right quadriceps contusion.

Playing status: Listed as day to day. Williams is not on the Western Conference All-Star roster.

Fallout: Williams’ injury further depletes Utah’s lineup. Forward Andrei Kirilenko, who had surgery on Friday to remove bone fragments from his right ankle, is out until at least the All-Star break. Forward Carlos Boozer, who had left knee surgery Jan. 9, remains out indefinitely.
