The Cardinals (UIW) also picked up former Clemens running back J.J. Johnson, a junior-college transfer from Kilgore College.

He was pretty good in HS.

A few months ago I read that Jerrell Wilkerson was going to join UIW. Has anybody heard anything about it?

He's on the current UIW roster ([http://www.uiw.edu/athletics/football/roster.html). There's also this story about him on the site:

DEGREE, FOOTBALL ON UIW MENU FOR JERRELL WILKERSON -- posted Thursday, July 24 2008

The admission process is complete and the football grant-in-aid is signed and now San Antonio’s Jerrell Wilkerson is set to begin work for his degree at Incarnate Word.

After applying and being admitted to the University Coach Mike Santiago and his staff offered Wilkerson the opportunity to reestablish himself both in the classroom and on the football field. A product of Clark High School where he set several city records, Wilkerson is ending a three-year absence from the game.

“We are happy to offer Jerrell this opportunity,” Santiago said. “Our expectations as a football staff are simply to have Jerrell graduate from Incarnate Word. We know this football staff and this University will afford every opportunity for Jerrell to achieve the goals set by himself and his family. Jerrell realizes he has a lot to prove both in the classroom and on the field.”

Wilkerson played his high school football between 2001 and 2004 at Clark and set city career marks with 7,249 rushing yards and 110 touchdowns. He also set a city mark with 47 scores in 2004. He spent one fall in Austin at the University of Texas before returning to his home city.

He and his new Cardinals teammates will report to the UIW campus for the beginning of classes on August 25 followed by the first day of football drills on August 27 at the new Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium on campus.

Thanks for the update. I'll be interesting to see if he can still produce like when he was at Clark.
