id say baseball with the title "america's past time," but that status is def waning.

basketball is right on baseballs nuts and should dethrone it soon.

College football is number 2.

I would have guessed MLB or NBA. That surprised me.

College football is #2.

Then perhaps a tie between NBA & MLB for 3rd. The have switched sports many times over the past 15 years or so. However...if MLB didn't have a captive audience all summer I don't think they would ever sniff 3rd.

1. NFL
2. CFB
3. MLB (debatable)

I'd argue that CFB is #1 and the NFL is #2.

I always hear tons more about CFB than NFL, it's close but I'd go with CFB.

MLB used to be up there with the NFL. In 94 the strike took it down a few notches. But as it started to rebound some, all of these fucknuts started testing positive for steroid use. The NBA should surpass it in the next couple of years. Bud Selig should have been canned a long time ago.

I don't know if I trust this as a verifiable source, but it does raise the question of Nascar. Which has a huge cult following, even if it's completely ignored by most.

USA - Although the National Football League (NFL) remains the most popular sport in the United States, Major League Baseball (MLB) continues to have a strong following among American sports fans according to a Harris Poll conducted online by Harris Interactive between December 9 and 15, 2008 among 2,388 U.S. adults, of whom 1,582 follow one or more sport.

The NFL tops the list with 31% of those who follow sports, followed by 16% who say MLB is their favorite. Rounding out the top five favorite sports are NCAA football (cited by 12%), NASCAR auto racing (8%) and the National Basktball Association (NBA) (6%).

Since Harris Interactive began asking this question in 1985, the NFL has always been on top and its popularity is now seven points higher than it was then (up from 24% to 31%). Compared to 1985’s results, MLB has dropped seven percentage points (from 23% to 16%), and men’s tennis has dropped four percentage points (from 5% to 1%).

The NFL isn’t the only sport to gain in popularity. NASCAR has increased its popularity by three percentage points (from 5% to 8%) as has hockey (up 3 percentage points from 2% to 5%).

The NFL is most popular among:

- those with household incomes of $50,000 to under $75,000 (43%)
- African Americans (42%)
- those aged 30-39 (39%)
- Easterners (34%)
- Those with a post-graduate degree education (20%)
- Westerners (23%)
- Those aged 65 and older (26%)

MLB is most popular among:

- Westerners (21%)
- Those aged 65 and older (21%)
- Hispanics (20%)
- Those aged 30-39 (8%)

The question was which SPORT - NFL/college are both American football, so ranking them separately makes little sense, as does that sport being called "football" when there is very little use of the foot contacting the ball. The same can be said of rugby league, but not union.

From what I've read it goes:
1) American football;
2) baseball
3) NASCAR (motor sports)
4) basketball

Personally, I don't get the attraction of American football - it is so incredibly SLOW. Give me Aussie Rules any day - the athletes are incredible, and it's a game of unsurpassable skill and brutality that moves continuously for 100+ minutes. I am a basketball player and fan for life, but I still think Aussie Rules is the best game in the world.

first off, what teh fuck is favoritest mean?

secondly, the way i look at it and measure it is.....

imagine all the sports were all on the same day and the same time. which would you watch?

if it was unbiased, by this i mean i had no fav team in any sport, it would be

nfl
cfb
nascar
mlb
nba

of course once you start throwing in fav teams that makes things more complicated. obviously i would watch teh daytona 500 over the lions playing the seahawks. but as a sport as a whole i think thats the way i would have to look at it.
