You knew it had to be a quick shot to get the 2-for-1, but I am ashamed to admit that I wouldn't have wanted Mason taking it after the way he had been shooting. I should have learned by now.

I should have learned by now.By the book, you don't go 2-for-1 in that scenario (although I'm not sure he even accomplished a 2-for-1 with the shot). Down one, you get the best shot possible, no matter when it comes.

Not the "smartest" of shots but I'll live with it.

That wasn't a 2-for-1. There was 20 seconds left in the game when he shot it. It was actually horrible shot selection and Pop would have benched him for weeks if he missed.:lol

But he didn't. :smokin

That is exactly what I was saying. There was so much time on the clock, no reason to shoot so fast. But he wanted it. Bad selection. Check. Huge dagger. Check. Have to love the mindset.

Coach Brown just said on the radio that Pop called that play to MasonI saw Pop call a top of the key pick-and-roll for Mason. However, I'm guessing Pop didn't love the leaning three-pointer with plenty of time on the shot clock ...... until it went in.

I was figuring quick shot, since they didn't call the timeout off the rebound. When you have the defense on their heels like that, and you're down one, if you can get a quick shot I think it's a smart play (and I could have sworn it was close to 30 seconds left but I could be wrong). But you probably don't normally fire off a long three in that situation.

There was 20.1 or so when he shot it. There was no 2-for-1 opportunity.

Shots like that earn redemption and forgiveness. To think that we beat the Celtics w/o Bowen getting that involved is unreal....

Still, it makes feel queasy not seeing Bowen guarding the other team's better O players. Is he going to be used as a defensive sniper in the playoffs ?

ROGER MASON JR. All that is needed to be said. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT TRADE THIS GUY. He has such big balls its amazing, its crazy. If not for his now FOUR game winners, he takes pressure off the Big 3 in clutch situations also, a big plus.

You bet. During the road trip I look for Bowens minutes to steadily increase to a level we will see in the playoffs (this game non withstanding of course).

Am I the only one that didn't freak with the shot? I didn't think it was that bad of a shot at all, and RMJ usually leans on his shots. I guess I've learned to live with him as more a quick jump shooter than a set shooter. Its not pretty like Finley's jumper, but its pretty damn deadly.

DPG21920
02-08-2009, 06:50 PM
I don't think it was a "form" issue as much as it was a quick issue. You almost never see a team down by 1 take a shot that fast, let alone with no one set up. It was just a cold blooded moment from the guy making a statement. 9 out of 10 you are pissed, but it went in and I love the mind set.

Thats a good point and I guess it didn't cross my mind. On the play before I saw Mason trying to get a shot off - he wanted it bad. I'm not sure if he just has big time confidence now because of the shots he's hit this year or if thats his base mindset, but RMJ went looking for that ball a lot in the last minute of the game. He wanted that shot.

Pretty solid performance (in that minute).

And that shot wasn't as scary as Timmy's 3 to down the Suns. I yelled at the tv that time. Wasn't too worried about Money, he already has a history as clutch and the season isn't half over yet!!!

And to statwhores like timvp, what is Manu's career avg on gamewinners? Cuz Mason is 100% as far as I'm concerned. Don't know about his Wizards days, but he said himself he was willing, just Arenas and Butler were ballhogs.
