Got the idea from Pop and Hill thread. It's up to you whether it's during games or off the court, classic article comments or interviews.
Mine, well one of my favorites was when he did that HEB commercial, some people find it really terrible, but I was very surprised they actually made him do just that...

During the 2003 Finals Pop tells Duncan about a play they've been trying to run he says "Maybe if I change the name you'll get it"
Duncan "I still won't run it right"
One of my favorite things he says though is "get over yourself" its been pretty much the Spurs mantra from day 1.

My favorite Pop moment was in postgame interviews in 2006 (I think). The press had asked a couple dumb questions and Pop said, "Doesn't anybody have anything interesting to ask?" I said, "Do you think Manu should grow his hair back long?" Pop thought it was hysterical. And then we went back and forth in a chuckling question/answer about the power of Manu's hair.

Pop's shots at players are always memorable . . .
"Kidd would have made that pass and come down and gotten that rebound." - Pop to Parker in the 2003-04 season after the Kidd fiasco.
"Last year we had someone not listen to instructions and that cost us the season so we need to be sharp." - Pop in 2006-07 training camp giving a not so subtle dig to Manu about the Dirk foul.

Pop teaches Horry how to take a charge !!!
June 10, 2007 NBA Finals Game 2 : Cleveland Cavaliers at San Antonio Spurs.
tfpmA3yK82c
"That's all I could do," Popovich said, remembering his athletic days at the Air Force Academy. "That's the best thing I could do as a player is fall down."
"I was so scared," said Horry, who had five blocks, five points and nine rebounds in 26 minutes Sunday. "I was like, 'Please don't be hurt, please don't be hurt.' But he jumped up fast; that shows you how tough he is."
Horry, whom Popovich called "our star" Sunday, has been here before.
Next time, Horry has some advice for his coach.
"Get out of my way," he joked. "Just jump up, jump up on the scorer's table, a la Steve Nash."

When Terry Porter hit him in the nuts with a pass and dropped him, live on NBC at Utah.
I don't know if I saw it live, but in one of the Spurs championship editions of SI they mention that it got used in a film session following a rough loss. Pop had the video guys put together a reel of defensive miscues and problems. The final part of it consisted of a black screen with the words, "And always stay alert" or "Always keep your hands up" or something along those lines, followed by a slo-mo replay of Pop catching the ball in his nuts.
2007 Parade - "We kicked ass."

The funniest part of it was how the whole Delta Center began to laugh for a second, and then all held their breath at once once as the whole arena pictured taking that pass themselves. You could hear a pin drop on the broadcast in that brief period. The only other time I can remember hearing a whole arena gasp like that was game 5 in Detroit, the second Horry got the ball wide open at the three in OT (it was the play where he faked the three, then went in and jumped over Hamilton for the dunk).

All good funny moments...
Here's one that shows his stern side...
I can't remember who we were playing but the whistles were heavily unbalanced... He then implored the group to focus and to play through it... On the following play Ginobili get's fouled and the refs predictably swallow their whistles... A flustered Ginobili proceeds to complain and Pop quickly yanks Ginobili out of the game... in a mixture of confusion and anger Ginobili walks toward the bench but says something to the ref. Pop then yells at Ginobili and tells him to, "sit the f#*! down"... :wow :wow

To be serious, my favorite Pop moment was seeing him dance like a madman on the river barge in the '99 Championship parade. Pop was under a lot of heat that season and was likely days from getting fired if the Spurs didn't roll into Houston and destroy them (and the rest of the league) after that embarrassing loss to Utah in the Dome. Pop had the look of a man who had the weight of the world taken off his shoulders. If it wasn't for that Houston game, I think Doc Rivers becomes the team's coach, David Robinson is traded, and Tim walks to Orlando or Chicago the next year.

For me, The best moment is Roger Mason's best moment with Pop -- the 45 minute lecture on MLK before the presidential elections. Pop knows that basketball is not the end all of it. It is only a profession that brings about the best in those professionals meant for it. His gesture before November 4 is what I think made Mason the Spur he wanted to be. And to paraphrase Mason, ""It was Dr. King. It was a bunch of current events on the struggles that a lot of African-Americans went through in the civil rights movement,'' Mason said. "It completely threw me off. But when I went home and reflected on it, I was like, Man, he's a special guy.''.

"No vamos a hacer ningun trueque, no importa lo que digan los diarios o la TV, no vamos a hacerlo; y basicamente, vamos a unimos mas unos con otros." temporada de 2006-2007.

pop's shots at players are always memorable . . .
"kidd would have made that pass and come down and gotten that rebound." - pop to parker in the 2003-04 season after the kidd fiasco.
"last year we had someone not listen to instructions and that cost us the season so we need to be sharp." - pop in 2006-07 training camp giving a not so subtle dig to manu about the dirk foul.
ouch!!!

I think this was after the spurs won it all in 2007 and a reporter asked him something about repeating the next year. Classic.
Great thread btw.
It was like this:
Q: "The only thing you've not been able to do during this run is repeat. Will this be a special motivation for next year?"
A: "I don't give a shit."
Live in national TV right after the 4-0 winning game versus Cleveland.
The room exploded in laughts.
Yep, this is my best. Give two shit to the repeat and national broadcasting.

Pop and Sean were walking around San Francisco during a CA (probably a GS) road trip and Pop passed a wine store and wanted to go in. Later Sean went looking for Pop in the store and found him on all fours scrounging on the bottom levels of the wine rack looking for "hidden wine finds".
Sean started laughing and Pop looked up and said to him: "I know it's a sickness". He then explained that this was where you could them.
But the real measure of the man is his humility and integrity. Years ago when Pop left the AF and began his basketball coaching career at Pimona Pitzer, a lower Division level though academically attuned school but an athletic doormat, he and his family lived in the dormitory for a few semesters, he drove the team bus early on and supervised campus intramurals. He wasn't wealthy, well known or 'silver spooned". He turned them into contenders and they even won their school's conference (twice I think) long before he teamed up with Larry Brown and Don Nelson before coming into the NBA or Spurs. That's why Pop is better than ex-player NBA coaches because he did the best with what he had and gave a maximum effort win or lose.
Can you imagine a Phil Jackson living in a dorm or driving the team bus? I have never heard a peer or player (perhaps Rodman) say a truly negative thing about his goals and values. And he could have left to go to some NBA teams long before and made millions more elsewhere.
He has been the best thing that has ever happened to the San Antonio Spurs.

After they won the title in 2003 in the locker room before they popped open the bubbly, Pop said something to the effect of "that was the worst opening quarter I've ever seen!" and then all the players are like "but it was the best 4th!" and they all go nuts!
