I'd be pissed if I were Miami. O'Neal comes off the books for 2010 right? Which is why they did it, but fuck, O'Neal's finished.

i guess Calangelo still likes Marion back from his PHX days
I do too. If I'm Toronto I'm ecstatic over this. O'Neal comes off the books, Marion might walk, but who cares, O'Neal's gone. I wish the Jazz could have done this with Boozer.

At least Miami got rid of Marcus Banks' contract though.

Yeah, I just saw it on Sportscenter!

Ric Bucher is coming on shortly to break it down.

I disagree that it makes both teams worse..

Jermaine has looked solid when he's been on the court..it's a risk by Miami, but it's a good one..they need a big man in the middle badly, and Jermaine gives them that..he's still a solid defender, and he's looked very good when Bosh was out..he'll be the 2nd option in Miami, which is good for him..

Marion is completely useless to Miami from a talent perspective..

Jamario Moon gives them an athletic slasher that plays above average D as well..he also has a great contract, one of the best value contracts in the NBA..

Toronto is out of the playoffs..Marion is an expiring contract, which will allow them to make some moves in the off-season..

good trade for both teams..

Chips starting to fall? Marion to Toronto, J O' Neal to Heat, whats next? Stoudemire to ? Sheed to Spurs? ( I hope!)

This trade does nothing for either team. Meaningless to the league. It actually makes Miami worse, doesn't do shit for a shit Toronto team.

so where's the logic that it makes both teams worse? LOL..

Miami gets the big man they desperately need, and they get to have flexibility in 2010..while they get rid of Marion, who is useless in their system..

Too much. He won the Bill Simmons least valuable player award in 2007.

HarlemHeat37

Marion doesn't really help Toronto, other than from a financial standpoint..he'll help them continue to compete for a playoff spot, but his true value will be as an expiring contract..they'll try to improve the team before the 2010 off-season to entice Bosh into staying with the team..

good trade..

I just listened to Ric Bucher on Sportscenter talking about this trade.

He said the Miami desperately wanted someone who can score in the post and they were convinced O'Neal is healthy enough to play.

Also, the Heat felt Shawn Marion didn't fit in their system (what's a surprise!!) and were ready to move him.

Lastly, Ric mentioned that Kobe Bryant was the 1st half MVP. But that Tim Duncan should be mentioned in the conversation. I was shocked!! :lol

crc21209
02-13-2009, 01:43 PM
Ric Bucher also said that he thinks this O'Neal for Marion trade is going to be the biggest "big name" trade of the trading season and no other big names will be moved, only other name being talked about being Vince Carter. Hmmmmm no Sheed talk? Damn it! lol.

Maybe it's just me but this big favor Phoenix supposedly did for Miami by trading for Shaq wasn't really a big favor since they just traded the two players in the Shaq trade for a player worse than Shaq but gets paid more.

That Sheed deal will be hard to do for the Spurs. I know about that thread in the Spurs forum up to 18 pages or so.

I would be shocked if it happens!

I could see Brad Miller trade happening before Sheed though.

I think Miami got a steal here. O'Neal will help a bit, but Jamario Moon is a real gem IMO.

Contrary to the assumption here, I think the intent is for Marion to stay in Toronto. He is EXACTLY what they need alongside Bosh and Andrea- a small forward who can defend and rebound.

In essence, Toronto traded Rasho and TJ for Marion (via Jermaine)-- which is precisely what they tried to do directly with Phoenix before.

JamStone
02-13-2009, 02:50 PM
But would Toronto be willing to extend Marion for anywhere near what he thinks he's worth. Despite his obvious decline and limitations, I think even $10 million a year would be something Marion wouldn't accept. I think he's worth maybe $24 over three years at this point. But, if Colangelo and the Raptors want to really extend Marion, they will likely have to go higher than that. I guess it might depend whether there's another sucker team that goes after Marion as well, which might be unlikely.

Good trade for both teams. Toronto is out of the playoffs and they get a big expiring deal. Miami gets 2 players that should be able to help them right away. Beasley gets to move into Marion's starting spot.

So basically, Miami has traded Shaq for Jermaine O'Neal + Moon. How does this help them?

I think they were in last place when they traded Shaq, so it didn't even get them Beasley.

What a steal for the Raptors.
J.O has always been injury prone throughout his career.
Miami will regret trading Marion for this toothpick.

Hell of a deal for Miami. They actually could be a pretty solid team this year, now.

To those that are saying O'neal sucks, damn, I would love to have someone else on the Spurs to give us 14 and 7 every game. That's not bad for sucking.

If JO can stay healthy, him and D-Wade will make a good run in the east..JO is still a top 10 Center in the NBA when healthy. Good trade for Miami.

I hope they enjoy all 12 games he'll play the rest of the season.

Joel Anthony, Jamal Magloire and Marl Blount. Thats the Heat's C rotation. Adding Jermaine to knock those guys down 10 MPG game each, will be huge for the Heat.

Plus, Marions talent was pretty much redundant on that team. With a PG like Calderon in Toronto and Bargnani and even Bosh able to spread the floor. Marion might be able to go back to being a 17-9-2 type of player.

I think its a good trade for both teams.

mystargtr34
02-13-2009, 06:00 PM
Not to mention adding a watered down replacement in Jomario Moon, 1st Round pick and a handy $4 Million Trade Exception.

I think its a very good trade for the Heat. They will still have a ton of cap room in 2010.

I think it makes the Raps better too, but the Heat might be able to get HCA in the playoffs now.

Austin_Toros
02-13-2009, 06:04 PM
I hope they enjoy all 12 games he'll play the rest of the season.

If Jermaine can more more than 12 games, then the trade was worth it.

Marion and Jermaine are needed more in their new teams. Especially Marion who looks like he can be a nice fit with Bosh and Bargnani.

I guess this trade means Bargnani is a permanent starter now..

HarlemHeat37
02-13-2009, 06:44 PM
there's no way Marion will be a Raptor next season..he's asking for too much money, and he just doesn't fit with their team..
