I use an old Cannon Rebel.

I'm not really into the digital camera thing but I'm going to break down and get one.

Is 3.1 pixels good enough?

3.1 pixels will make everything look like a block or cube. I recommend at least 3.1 megapixels. ;)

I would never use a point-n-shoot for photography.

The new Digital Rebel is like 8 MP and will cost around 900. Its nice, but 6MP will get you a 20x24 picture.

I love my Rebel and have gotten some great pics.

But I mostly experiment and see what I get.

3.1 megapixels it is.

Canons are the best - great lenses. I hate that mine is a APS, but eh. I have an old Nikon, too though, that's about thirty years old that takes awesome pictures. I will always maintain that digital cameras are great for some things, but for pictures you're really going to care about a regular film camera is always the best - you can always get a photo CD if you want stuff for the computer.

I agree. I used to have a nice Pentax with a nice zoom lens but it got stolen.

I'm currently into trying different filters and effects. I like black & white photos too.

If you process your own film there are some cool effects you can use - one I found by accident is partially solarizing the negatives. If you're printing your own photos there are some fun tints to use, especially on black and white. I know there are a couple of companies that make a tint for B&W to metallicize the black portions of the print.

To be honest, I don't know enough about the digital camera technology to really compare to film but I personally, enjoy working with film.

Can you get the same effects on digital such as time elapse pics and dual images? Do you have the same ability such as filters?

All the same filters, all the same time-elapse, although the process is a little different. I plan on trying to take some of the highway and seeing how it works.

I know I'm a purist, but there's just something about the actual light imprint of the real image that I love. It's like the difference between digital and analog recording - one really captures the event and the other does the best impression that it can.

Nice. I bought a inexpensive Kodak digital camera just to fool around with.
Haven't downloaded them yet.

But have some great 35M shots developing now....at Wal-Mart.
