I play everyday with the spurs on 2k9 some days im good some days im bad. I go to duncan ALOT and ginobili always gets his points even though hes so inconsistant in this game. is there any good plays yall run?? any tips anyone has for a fellow 2k9 spurs fan? seems like mason doesnt want to knock down open 3's. cant ever get parker over 15 points either

any plays that are real money with duncan? certain shots with duncan anything would be useful!

what defenses do yall like to run etc

shoot the ball with roger mason. The guy's a stud. And for some reason Kurt Thomas can play in that game. I start:

C - Tim Duncan
PF - Kurt Thomas
SF - Manu Ginobli
SG - Roger Mason
PG - Tony Parker.

I usually trade Bruce and Finley for younger legs. Oberto, Vaugn and Udoka are also good to be traded. Try Finley for Maurice Speights from the Sixers. He gives good depth. Martel Webster is also someone that is good off the bench. The Blazers usually let him go pretty easy.

I usually run man to man defense or a halfcourt trap. im not really a zone guy, maybe i'll run a 1-3-1 zone every now and then.

im actually much better with hill than parker on the game, i dont know. i also run alot of the plays that have guys coming off screens. im not very good with ginobili on the game either. for some reason alot of people run alot of full court press or half court traps on me, and im pretty good at breaking the press and traps, so i get easy buckets due to that.

My $ play: Kurt Thomas pick n roll w/TD.

Give the ball to KT about 1/2 way between the right block and the 3 pt line. Call for a pick n roll (Right on the D pad, then 'A'). Dribble towards the free throw line, TD should be open and right near the basket - EZ 2.

I traded Oberto for Batum. I was undefeated in my first season on the association mode. Just don't let your players go tired. Always use sub. And when defending, Always use duncan. just use man to man and memorize play patterns. It's very easy to get steals when you know where the pass is going. Also when using duncan, face up most of the time and fake a lot, and once you hit turbo, you'll almost always be open for a dunk. Use your turbo wisely. shoot open threes and don't hesitate. Use pick and rolls a lot. and also when going for a layup always use the right analog stick for better control. and always use training mode on the menu. I've raised manu's three point shooting a lot. Always use the pass icon, no simple passes with x button. Once you finished an association, Alonzo mourning becomes a free agent, and surprisingly he's still very good defensively.

TP sux on 2k9 for me. Hes rated 90, yet he cant hit a shot. He misses lay ups, jumpers, floaters, everything.

Manu on the other hand cant miss and hes only rated 91 :lol.

He's basically good at making layups and driving. For a guy with such a high rating he really does suck. I usually trade him.

Manu's good at driving too. Especially off the curl or the three point line when his defender overplays him(happens a lot in the games I played). Just shoot open threes with him especially the corner ones. I have a good play for him where in he's the recipient of a tim duncan inbound pass at corner and then shoot a three. The defenders are always late to react.

And don't forget using hesistation dribbles. Double tap turbo, and you would almost always leave your defender behind. works with manu and especially tony.

What level do you play on? I was owning All-Star, won about 10 games in a row comfortably, now on the next level up ive gone 1-4 since then and my only win was against the Kings. 3 of my 4 losses were thrashings too. They just seem to score inside on me every single time, they pass through players :lol and guys like Aaron Gray and Spencer Hawes just wont miss inside, even when guarded by Duncan.

I don't usually play above all-star because the level is sometimes unreal that bad player begins playing good. But what I do is usually use duncan to guard the inside and the rest of the team handle the defense. It's kinda hard but even when they seems to blow the game wide open they will slow down and it would soon be time for manu clutch. Always defend your man tightly when using duncan. Never sag or that player will usually score (I hate it). But what i try to do is fool the offense to think that the guy has an open lane and then I would almost always antcipate the pass. I also increased duncan's shtoblocking through practice (which is kinda hard). Try double teaming and anticipate where the double teamed player will pass the ball.

I do the same, i control Duncan. I change the matchups and put Duncan on the weaker of the two opposing big men so i can roam and challenge the penetrators, but when guys like Aaron Gray are hittin 12 foot jumpers and Charlie Villanueva is dunking on Duncan 1-on-1 in the post its a bit hard.

This thread has made me want to play this game again. It's been a couple of months since I've played it.

One thing, change the sliders. The default sliders make the game horrible.

Any tips on changing a created player's Loyalty or Ambition in 2k9? I created George Hill for Assoc. mode and he's not loyal which makes it hard to keep after his contract expires

I'm surprised at the virtual TP hate. He's one of the best offensive assets the Spurs have, especially if you use his signature shots down low. He's so quick he'll blow by most other PG's and you can literally run circles around most players and angle his body to prevent blocks. In 2k you really have to learn the various moves you can do with the stick/button combinations since there's a boat load.

Make sure when you run your offense that you play to your players' strengths - the game has the real life players' comfort zones programmed into it so players like Bowen in his corner 3 can land more shots.

Calling iso and driving w\ TP is almost unstoppable in 2k9.....I finish w\ "x" instead of the shot stick and he always makes the right move to convert the lay in...

bestpfinthegame21, your so right. I use to use the shot stick on every play, but wtih Tony, and Manu I use the X button. I can ezly get 25pts with Tony. And its opens the game for everyone else if you pass once the defense commits to Tony! You will have the D doing this :bang

wow, you guys can't score with Tony? :rollin
You know you can iso? :p:
Just iso him on a side and spin move on your defender = open lane to the basket. either you score or it's an assist because the help defender came quick enough.
But usually I play a lot of pnr with Manu or Tony calling Timmy.
Or play 4down. Call for a player on the low block (you know the guy who is the best PF ever), give him the ball and iso. It's basically the four down play.
Once one of these guy is hot, just pass wisely through double teams for the open man.

Yeah using X gets some great animations w\ Tony and Manu....up and unders, and "Manu-esque" lay ups. Sometimes using the stick gets you stuck in a certain animation and you usually miss.

Afaik you can't change loyality. Only way to resign him is giving him starter minutes. and btw. if you have an internet connectionon your console or if you playon pc just reset the rosters once you downloaded theofficial patch - hill is thenonthe spurs roster with portrait and cf.

I always use stick for layins, it is actually the opposite of what you just said IMO - 'x' i use for spot up shooting, while stick for every move around the basket. Moving it different ways gives you obvious lanes to the basket x just couldn't - like if you're on the right side of the court doiing a fast break and a defender is waiting, there's nothing better than waiting for them to go into charge position, then moving the shotstick to the left and the (opposite) side of the rim to easily run around them for a dunk or easy layup. You can often do many moves people don't even know exist by simply using shotstick.

Actually your right.
The stick is for positioning EXACTLY where you want to lay in the ball. The problem is I play on the broadcast camera angle, so its a little harder to gauge in the middle of a drive to the basket IMO. Now on 2k angle, its a little bit easier. X also gets more foul calls for me also. It seems when your using the stick you avoid contact to make the lay in. Either way works though, cant go wrong..
