The best CB ever is coming back.

Actually he's not, he still spends his time working at NFL Network, taping his reality show, and giving Jerry Jones bad advice.

Asomugha definitely has a chance to go down as the best ever. He doesn't have quite the gifts in speed as Deion had, but hes much more well rounded. Bigger, stronger, smarter, better in run support. He can match up with speedy guys, as well as the larger, more physical possession recievers. He is so feared that teams refuse to let their wideouts line up on his side of the field, and do everything possible to keep him from being matched up on their top recievers.

Asomugha is the best CB in the league right now, and he's a great player, but let's be honest. His "thrown on" and "completed against" numbers of the past 2 seasons are remarkably low only because of the team he plays on.

If you're a quarterback and you have to choose between throwing a football in the general area of the one playmaker that team has, or throwing it near one of the 10 turd sandwiches occupying the rest of that defense, how tough a decision is that really?

The Raiders have been top 10 in the league in pass defense for several years now. Granted, some of that has been due to their poor run defense, but they have consistently had a pretty solid secondary, and a very good pass defending linebacking core, so its not a bunch of "turd sandwiches" that QBs are throwing on. However, I believe out of all passes that were thrown, less than 4% have been directed at Asomugha, or something insane like that.

The fact that opponents gameplan their offense completely around Asomugha, is quite a testament to his ability. Not to mention the Raiders have consistently had such a shitty pass-rush, while the Patriots consistently had one of the best pass-rushes in the league during Law's best years. A good pass rush makes a MAJOR difference in how good your secondary performs. It's what made the Chargers secondary look actually decent the past several years, when this year, now that Merriman is out, and the pass-rush was non-existent, they showed how shitty they really were. The raiders still are consistently top 10 despite no pass rush. Thats not too shabby at all.

Asomugha > Law

I guess it would be fair to note that Bill Belichick a.k.a. Coaching Jesus called Asomugha the most complete cornerback he's ever had to gameplan against.

I still like Ty Law better tho.:flag:

actually, after second thought, wilson wasnt worth that much money. i liked him, but they need to rebuild and get some money. i hope they go ahead and cut Tommy Kelly and Javon Walker as well. Those contracts are ridiculous.

IronMexican
02-23-2009, 08:27 PM
Kelly is staying. Imagine how much more piss poor that run D would be without him. Cutting Harris today saved over 7 million.

Asomugha is great, but that contract is stupid. No properly run NFL franchise would give a freaking cornerback that kind of money. I guess they had to severely money-whip him into staying with that shitty team.

IronMexican
02-24-2009, 12:57 PM
I'd rather have Al pay Asomugha that money when you know what you are getting instead of 7 years 70 million for Javon Walker.

And no doubt there is something wrong with the Raiders organization. But, they are my team, so what can I do?

Now every other high valued FA is going to want a similar deal. Every "properly" run franchise will now have deal with a free agent who wants a contract similar to his for here on. Al fucks everyone equally, don't you forget it.
