lol, that is so freakin ironic. That article states that local politicians want nothing to do with him, and for good reason. Our Mayor, Sheila Dixon was all butt-hurt when Obama stopped here in route to DC and acknowledged every other state politician but her. And on top of that he acknowledged every other mayor in the other cities he stopped off at .But in saying that, it's probably not such a good idea to turn over city contracts to a company that just happens to be your sister's.

Can never vote for "Councilman NO" Julian Castro. That guyu is power hungry and a political slime. He was deceptive when his twin brother was on the river float.
CiBrian wants to eliminate strip clubs. I don't frequent them (haven't been to one in 6+ years) but to try to get rid of the simply b/c you personally don't like them is ridiculous. I don't like bars, but you wouldn't see me trying to get rid of them.
I'd then vote for DeBerry by default, but she hasn't impressed me from the time I've seen her on KABB or KSAT.
Funny how all candidates want to spend more money on fire & police yet "Give me my raise while you cutback" City Manager wants to cut back fire & police.

Is it any wonder Hardberger gave Scully a new contract that virtually assures she continues to run the city (which the city manager basically does anyway)
I did find Cibrian's ad last night about anti strip clubs to be funny. I truly hate her and will do whatever I can to assure she doesnt win. She just annoys the living fuck out of me. I'd rather Thornton come back over her.

Is that seriously the only reason you are not voting for him? That's beyond stupid. That was just a mix-up. Glad you had the pleasure of meeting him. Too bad you didn't understand that you were talking to a politician. Do you actually believe he just started campaiging a month ago? That REALLY is beyond stupid.
But since you seem to have a short memory span, Castro voted 'No' to Toyota, the Sculley hire, PGA, and any other issue during that time. He also served on a Council that wanted longer term limits, led by the Turtle-loving-soccer Mayor Garza. He was attached to Garza at the hip until the city turned on him. That is why he couldn't win against Hardberger.

I'm sorry for coming off so nasty, the comment wasn't direct towards the "No" portion of your comment. It was more for Blake's river parade nonsense. I fully understood your comments. I get it. I see your side of it. And yes, I am fully aware he's been running for mayor since he lost however long ago it was (eight years ago right?).
And sure, maybe I saw the politician side of him that day, but I doubt it. He showed up in jeans and a t-shirt. He was supporting his brother's event. But that's neither here nor there. That was just a one time thing.

"I have solved this political dilemma in a very direct way: I don't vote. On Election Day, I stay home. I firmly believe that if you vote, you have no right to complain. Now, some people like to twist that around. They say, 'If you don't vote, you have no right to complain,' but where's the logic in that? If you vote, and you elect dishonest, incompetent politicians, and they get into office and screw everything up, you are responsible for what they have done. You voted them in. You caused the problem. You have no right to complain. I, on the other hand, who did not vote -- who did not even leave the house on Election Day -- am in no way responsible for that these politicians have done and have every right to complain about the mess that you created."

If I remember correctly they were both on the float and they misidentified him as Joaquin. They did a pretty heavy media blitz to correct everything. And his brother is pretty busy himself, he's a state rep for the west and northwest side of the city. I doubt he has time to cover for his brother.

Apology accepted from your earlier post, ASHBEEIGH. But that was 4 years ago...a mayor was only allowed two, two-year terms.
Second, Julian was NOT on the float. Only his twin brother, Joaquin. The float was for City Councilman/woman. If Julian wasn't there, why would a State Senator (Joaquin) be on a City Council float? Julian was busy with another event that nighte (too busy to participate in the parade, I guess). Might have even been at a fund raising event for his mayoral campaign, if I'm not mistaken.
Common sense tells you that you don't put your twin brother on the float when everyone will believe it is you.

you don't remember correctly.
"Julian Castro, who is running for mayor, attended a candidates forum and was not able to attend the Texas Cavaliers River Parade. Instead, he sent his brother, who was announced to the public as Julian Castro.......
....
Former Judge Phil Hardberger said, "To pretend someone else is you is a question of credibility.".....
......Joaquin Castro said his opponents need to concentrate on the "real issues" and forget about the incident.
.....It's not the first time the twins have been accused of impersonating one another.
Julian Castro was accused of impersonating his twin brother when Joaquin Castro ran for state representative. "

That's right. Julian must have "forgotten" to notify the public announcer as they named all the councilmen/women, and named Julian Castro, not Joaquin.
This and his little-brother relationship to the Turtle Garza lost him the election. These things don't change 4 years later.
But Julian hopes people forget.

Old stuff I know but that float thing was the first time I ever heard of the Castro twins. And it left a bad taste. Of course they were trying to fake out the voters. Before the twins realized it was going to be a national scandal, Julian admitted that Joaquin stood in for him because he had other plans. If that's not intent to deceive, I don't know what is. I'm glad Julian lost and I hope Joaquin follows. Those boys need to grow up before they show up on my doorstep asking for a vote.
Seeing as how Hardberger won, the funniest post was:
Today, they will appear on ABC's "Good Morning America," CBS' "The Early Show," NBC's "Today" show and CNN's "Crossfire." Appearances are scheduled for "Inside Edition" and "Dateline NBC."
They may even fly to New York to be guests on the Late Show with David Letterman next week...
(BANG!!!!) That was the sound of Schubert and Hardberger shooting themselves in the foot....
or not.
SA Longhorn has a reason for disliking him, but Blake, at least have a valid reason.

Should I not like him instead because he might try to bring a new soccer stadium on SA tax dollars?

FYI, there's a reason the swapping was almost immediately called to attention. BECAUSE YOU CAN TELL THEM APART!
My point is simple, IT'S A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE WHEN YOU'RE SWAPPING TWINS IN A HOUR LONG PARADE THAN IT IS IF YOU'RE SWAPPING THEM AT WORK.
Seriously, it's not that hard to understand.
Lastly, he's not some diabolical person who schemes and is always looking for new ways to scheme. Atleast I don't come to that conclusion because he twin swapped at a RIVER PARADE! Get over it.
I know he's capable of twin swapping and trying to deceive the public.

Oh man, get off your high horse. Everyone lies, that was probably the lamest lie/deception ever committed because of the obvious "you can tell them apart" problem in the lie/deception. If you want to base your entire option on the guy from that one event, go ahead.'
But the sad fact is, out of the three, he's done the least lying and deceiving yet you won't vote for him because of one instance of lying or deceiving. A bit hypocritical?
Lastly, let me state, I'm not stumping for Castro, if there were another candidate that were better, I'd vote for that person but sadly (again) he's the best of the three main candidates.

I didn't know we took parades that seriously in SA. I thought they were supposed to be fun and a little wacky.
Anyway, the candidates are dismal. At this point, I see Castro as the lesser of the evils. I can't ever imagine voting for Cibrian or Trish, both of whom are deep in the pockets of business and developers. I didn't vote for Cibrian for council, who lost my vote with her pandering campaign promise of more city services with less taxes. You can see where that one went.

I never said I think they'll swap places at work. If you don't get it by now, just do yourself a favor and stop trying.
Give the man the chair!
Give the man the job as mayor!
If you never knew they did that, would it matter? Would it?
If I never knew they did that, we wouldn't be having this conversation. Would we?
What a well thought out rebuttal.
Why would I rebut what you infer about the swap? If you have no problems with a liar being our mayor, then good for you.
Oh man, get off your high horse. Everyone lies, that was probably the lamest lie/deception ever committed because of the obvious "you can tell them apart" problem in the lie/deception. If you want to base your entire option on the guy from that one event, go ahead.'
What high horse? If I'm an employer and I find out a prospective employee lied in an effort to advance himself, I'm not gonna hire him.
But the sad fact is, out of the three, he's done the least lying and deceiving yet you won't vote for him because of one instance of lying or deceiving. A bit hypocritical?
I just said if I could vote 'none of the above' I would, but if you have evidence that the others have flat out deceived the public in an effort to gain some kind of personal advantage, I'm listening.
Lastly, let me state, I'm not stumping for Castro, if there were another candidate that were better, I'd vote for that person but sadly (again) he's the best of the three main candidates.
Great. Go cast your vote for the wonder twins. I don't really care.

If he tries to get away with having his brother double for him so he can be in two places at once, then what would make me believe that he wouldn't do something like that again if elected?
Hmmm...

I apologize for the confusion. I can't believe someone took that to mean that I literally think that the brothers would actually swap places while on the job.
As if Julian were to say, "hey Joaq, I need to catch up on Days of Our Lives today, can you go to work for me?"

Either you're lying and covering it with the "you're the dumb one" cop out or you honestly don't know how write a sentence.
If he tries to get away with having his brother double for him so he can be in two places at once, then what would make me believe that he wouldn't do something like that again if elected?
In no way does that sentence convey anything other than you thinking he'd use his twin again as a stand in.
In no way can you interpret that as you saying you think he'll deceive again.

I obviously don't know how to write a sentence that you can comprehend. I already apologized for the confusion. Get over it.
Of course, even if I was lying, what difference does it make to you? You already said you have no problem with liars.
In no way does that sentence convey anything other than you thinking he'd use his twin again as a stand in.

Yes, I can. I'll refrain from calling you an illiterate dumbass because I can see how someone just might take it as me saying "he might play switcheroo again"............although it doesn't make much sense on any level why he would do that once he is already in office.

I think the whole point everyone is trying to make is that everyone who was on the barge knew that it was joaquin on the float. The announcer didn't get the memo. There was no ill intent in the "switch.

Yes you can because you wrote it. You knew the context of what you wrote. WE didn't and no one who read that read that with the intention you had in mind.
If someone in a crowded theater shouted FIRE and everyone in the theater panicked, got up and all ran to the exits causing some people injury and in the end it turned out the person was lying and there was no fire.
If someone then said: "I hope they don't do something like that again."
Do you honestly think the something that person is talking about is commit another deceiving act and do you think anyone would interpret what that person as meaning "another deceitful act"? Come on, be honest.

If someone in a crowded theater shouted FIRE and everyone in the theater panicked, got up and all ran to the exits causing some people injury and in the end it turned out the person was lying and there was no fire.
If someone then said: "I hope they don't do something like that again."

stupid analogy, but ok, let's beat the dead horse some more.
maybe.
It's a character issue for me. He's a liar. If he tries to get away with having his brother double for him so he can be in two places at once, then what would make me believe that he wouldn't do something like that again if elected?
I was typing fast, was referring to the lying and/or deceiving. Insert deceptive in between the words "something" and "like" and I think I might have avoided you getting all worked up and confused.........I think......
I can't think of any legitimate reason why or how he would try to a pull a switcheroo once he is in office. Can you? It would seem to me near impossible to fool people during a city council meeting or during an interview in front of the camera or fool his secretary, but for some reason, you think I think it's not only possible, but a probability. Nice deduction, Holmes.
Do you honestly think the something that person is talking about is commit another deceiving act and do you think anyone would interpret what that person as meaning "another deceitful act"? Come on, be honest.
I've already said "yes". You can read it however you want. I don't really give a crap and even if you somehow were to "bust me" in a lie, it's not gonna change my opinion.
And why are you questioning my integrity? I'm not running for office and you said lying doesn't matter to you because everybody does it.
I'm not voting for Castro just because of your incessant babbling that he's the least of the three evils.

Is that seriously the only reason you are not voting for him? That's beyond stupid. That was just a mix-up. I've met him, his brother, and mother on several occasions for work (my boss grew up with them on the westside and is very close to the family) and have nothing bad to say about them..not slimy at all (aside from the slicked back hair).
no, there was pretty much no mix up.

i was just down there for fiesta and was at an event and castro was there. my first impression of him was that he's somewhat of a sleaze. the race that i think will be interesting is the city council seat of district 5 or 7. the one with elena and rodriquez. at the same event elena and rodriquez were both there. i had no idea they were running against each other. once i realized what the deal was i saw them shake each others hand and it felt pretty icy. then i read elena's brochure and saw everything she's saying about rodriquez and using against him.

Castro is a cynical, elitist, Harvard lawyer wanna be politician that just want's to use the mayors office as a political stepping stone to bigger and better political jackpots. He will be wheeling and dealing for his own personal interests and to enrich his political base. He is NOT the "champion of the downtrodden" like he claims...he is just an elitist with a mexican surname...
