The Clippers and Rockets have been negotiating the possibility of a Baron Davis-Tracy McGrady trade, but now that deal appears unlikely to happen, a source close to Davis told SportingNews.com.
Davis is in the first year of a five-year contract with the Clippers that pays him $65 million, but he has not meshed well with coach Mike Dunleavy. Davis is averaging 15.3 points, his lowest total in nine years. The team is 13-42 and coming off humbling back-to-back losses to the Suns in which it gave up a combined 282 points. On Wednesday, the source had told SportingNews.com that "it would be best for everyone if Baron moved on."
The Rockets, meanwhile, are still smarting from the loss of McGrady, who will miss the rest of the season with knee surgery. Coach Rick Adelman was critical of McGrady announcing his decision through the media, telling reporters on Wednesday, "There should be a protocol, there should be a procedure where we have a chance to sit down and talk about the situation and not be announced in the press. I don't know why that happened, why he did that. Certainly, that is not the way things should be handled." The Rockets have won 13 of 19 games without McGrady this season

Hmm a trade of one underachiever for another seems unlikely...
