Marc Stein: Looks like we have a fairly significant three-way deal that has been submitted to the league just before the trade deadline.

NBA front-office sources tell ESPN.com that Orlando is acquiring Rafer Alston from Houston to fill the void created at point guard by Jameer Nelson's shoulder injury.

The Rockets will receive Memphis guard Kyle Lowry, Orlando forward Brian Cook and perhaps two other minimum-salaried players to make the finances work.

The Grizzlies will receive a first-round pick from Orlando.

It's more of a bandage for Orlando. Rafer is ok, but he doesn't defend and is not much of a creator. He's an upgrade, but still won't replace the production of Nelson.

Lowry isn't bad but I'm not so sure he's ready to be the starting point guard for the Rockets. We need a veteran pt guard with some experience. And what is it with Houston and Orlando that we always send our starting point guards over to them?

The Rockets reached an agreement to trade point guard Rafer Alston to the Orlando Magic, an individual with knowledge of the deal said Thursday.
The Rockets will receive forward Brian Cook from Orlando and guard Kyle Lowry from the Memphis Grizzlies in the trade.
Rockets officials would not comment until the deal was approved by the NBA and made official.
Memphis will receive Orlando's first-round pick as part of the trade.

He's not even owned by many fantasy players. He's been struggling with the Grizzlies. This doesn't make any sense. Guess Aaron Brooks will be our starting point guard.

i think it is an interesting trade. it is a gamble but i think it is a smart one. the rockets season is pretty much a done deal with knee-back quitting for the year. why not trade for a young pg with some talent and let him and brooks fight it out for the starting job? i also think it's a nice contrast to have with brooks since lowry is much more bulky and can defend pgs that brooks has trouble matching up against.

The Rockets potentially have a nice future at PG with Brooks and Lowry. Key word being potential. All we can do now is hope that Brooks blossoms in his new starting role.

This was an AWESOME move by the Rockets without Tmac, we needed attack the basket PGs....Brooks and Lowry are better than Rafer.....

Rafer was the worst shooting PG I have ever seen...glad he is gone.
