it's a little late for that trade if it is coming. i don't mind have some fresh blood at the point. i think lowry and brooks will work out better than alston. alston is a good game manager but his shooting just kills this team.

Not sold that Lowery is an upgrade to Rafer. I think Brian Cook gets waived because we are stacked at forward. My guess is that another guard is coming off waivers after the trade deadline is over. I also think that Dorsey is useless and will be sent to the D-league or waived.

The one thing thats hindered the Rox other than injuries the past few years is the lack of a PG and as bad as Rafer can be i think they just got worse at the position

Get ready for Aaron Brooks to be our starting point guard. Maybe Bonzi, Francis or Marbury to come in for cheap?

Yeah, I agree. Our guard rotation would be horrible. I hope Morey is going to make a last minute announcement like Hinrichs to the Rockets for Cook.
Please please please!!!

I think Kidd will have trouble keeping up with Aaron Brooks. Nice to Brooks having some success in the NBA after struggling as the Saints QB his last few seasons.

I trust Morey. He's not stupid. He knows that Lowry is not as good as Alston. There has to be another move coming.

if nothing else comes out of this trade I'm almost sure that the season is over.
It is all about starting lineups, if tracy was still able to play then this trade would have been ok, but AB can't facilitate the ball, our defense just got a whole lot worse too.
If Baron is coming in then it will be ok

I finally realized why Rafer always played so poorly.
TMAC always had the ball in his hands and made the plays, That left Rafer to the 2. Rafer was great at facilitating and Orlando just got WAY better.

Yep Orlando's biggest weakness was PG and they did well for themselves all things considering

I think this may not be such a bad trade. In Cook we get more size and range for the backup center position, and if Kyle Lowry gets the open shots that Rafer got our scoring will definitely go up. These are actually two good pieces for Adelmans offense.

I dunno, we are probably going to get two other minor players from the Magic to make the salaries work out. When it's all said and done, there are a lot of players getting waived. Bring in a new player off waivers. Hell, I'd rather have Bonzi on my team instead of Dorsey.
I have called for AB to start but that was when TMAC WAS HEALTHY. Without Tmac starting with brooks this is a mess.

It seem from scouting sources that Houston Rockets have been in contact with Igor Rakocevic to join them. They would like to sign him to be starting point guard for them.
He is free agent at end of season. Asking price is say to be $12 millions for 3 years but 3rd year would be team option. This could maybe be true rumors after Alston was traded and he play in same team as Prigioni (old team of Scola) who Rockets have been scouting for long time now.
For Rockets fans he has won FIBA European championship in 2001 and FIBA World Championship in 2002 with Yugoslavia after victory over Argentina in championship. Very few players have won both European championship and world championship. Even Spain national team of current time has never done this.
So he is product of legendary Yugoslavia system.
Personal opinion of this player is he can fit perfect in offense with team that have Yao as center. However defense would be issue for him because in Euroleague he is not good defender. Of course is much better than someone like Jasikevicius in defense. But maybe he would be OK because Navarro also sucks in defense in Euroleague. In NBA it is not that important since rules prevent players from really guarding in perimeter anyway. Not like in Euroleague where bad defenders on perimeter are big problem for clubs.
But in offense he is one player who would punish NBA defense badly if they left him open to make double teams of Yao.
6-4 player can play point guard or shooting guard. Excellent 3 point shooter and vertical jump is 43 inches.

Cook is going to get waived. By the way, here's more from the Chicago Tribune.
People familiar with deal: Orlando acquires Alston, Rockets get Lowry, Cook in 3-team trade
By CHRIS DUNCAN | AP Sports Writer 3:45 PM CST, February 19, 2009 HOUSTON (AP) — The Houston Rockets (http://www.chicagotribune.com/topic/sports/houston-rockets-ORSPT000101.topic) traded point guard Rafer Alston (http://www.chicagotribune.com/topic/sports/rafer-alston-PESPT000137.topic) to Orlando and acquired Magic forward Brian Cook (http://www.chicagotribune.com/topic/sports/brian-cook-PESPT001454.topic) and Memphis guard Kyle Lowry on Thursday, two people with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press.
Memphis also received the Magic's first-round draft pick as part of the deal, said the people, who requested anonymity because the trade had not been announced by any of the teams.
The three-team swap came one day after Rockets star Tracy McGrady (http://www.chicagotribune.com/topic/sports/basketball/tracy-mcgrady-PESPT008533.topic) announced on his Web site that he'll have season-ending microfracture surgery on his troublesome left knee.
The Magic, meanwhile, needed an experienced point guard after Jameer Nelson (http://www.chicagotribune.com/topic/sports/basketball/jameer-nelson-PESPT008442.topic) suffered a potentially season-ending shoulder injury Feb. 2.
The 6-foot-2 Alston practiced with the Rockets on Thursday but left before the session was opened to the media. He was averaging 11.5 points and 5.4 assists this season and had 24 assists in Houston's last two games, both Rockets victories.
The Rockets are 33-21, second in the Southwest Division, but sixth overall in the Western Conference.
The loss of Alston likely pushes Aaron Brooks (http://www.chicagotribune.com/topic/sports/aaron-brooks-PESPT000847.topic) into the starting point-guard role. Brooks is averaging 10.3 points and 2.6 assists in 52 games, but he's only made seven starts.
Alston was due to make $4.9 million this season and $5.25 million next season, the last year of his contract with Houston. The Rockets acquired him in an October 2005 trade with Toronto.
The move reunites Alston with Coach Stan Van Gundy (http://www.chicagotribune.com/topic/sports/basketball/stan-van-gundy-PESPT008524.topic), who led Miami when Alston played for the Heat in 2003-04. Alston played for Jeff Van Gundy, Stan's brother, in his first two seasons with the Rockets.
The 6-foot Lowry is averaging 7.6 points and 3.6 assists in 49 games. The former Villanova star was the Grizzlies' first-round pick (24th overall) in the 2006 draft.
The 6-9 Cook is averaging only 3 points and 1.3 rebounds in 21 games for the Magic this season.

Oh I should say that about 4-5 NBA teams is willing to offer Rakocevic MLE contract next year. So this means if Rockets want him they will have to meet what he asks for and maybe pay a little more even.

Houston clears cap space in 2010. Tracy McGrady's contract will come off the books, as will the contracts of Luis Scola, Brent Barry, and Carl Landry (potentially). Justin Reed, Von Wafer, Ron Artest and Dikembe Mutombo are all on ending contracts this season.
Guess we end up with a young set of point guards and then we are shooting for the moon in 2010 to reset the board with Yao as centerpiece.

Orlando Sentinal is reporting the motive for the Rockets move was a salary dump and to make Aaron Brooks the starting point guard. It might also have been a locker room move to sooth T-Mac because Alston called him out the most.
The Rockets, 33-21, obviously wanted to dump Alston's salary and groom young point guard Aaron Brooks (http://www.orlandosentinel.com/topic/sports/aaron-brooks-PESPT000847.topic) after McGrady shocked the team earlier this week by announcing he will have season-ending knee surgery. That's fine with the Magic. The 6-foot-2 Alston is averaging 11.5 points and 5.4 assists this season and has had 24 assists in Houston's last two games, both wins. What makes Alston an even better fit is that he played for Magic Coach Stan Van Gundy (http://www.orlandosentinel.com/topic/sports/basketball/stan-van-gundy-PESPT008524.topic) when Van Gundy was in Miami.

I know Houston doesn't like to hear this, but I wouldn't be shocked if SA went after Scola in 2010 if a pie in the sky run for Bosh doesn't work out.

Scola has standing and open offer from Panathinaikos of 3 years $30 million as soon as he is free agent. I do not see Spurs or Rockets matching such offer.
