Anyone get SF IV yet?

I own a 360 but don't get to play all that often (work/wife/dogs/family/TV take up most of my time) but used to be a huge fighting game nerd back in the day. First SF2 (and million updated versions of it), then the MK series, Killer Instinct, Virtua Fighter, etc. I started to lose interest once the games went from 2d to 3d. From what I've seen, SF IV looks to go back to it's 2D roots but I just don't know if I trust that. I wish I could play a demo but I figured I'd see if any of you have played it and whether you'd recommend it to someone who misses the days of 2D fighters.

It's pretty cool... i was pissed at first because i was going through arcade mode and i kept on getting challenges from random people and it would reset whatever match i was in.

it took me a while to see that you could turn that feature off.

it has a lot of unlockables and some of the achievements take a long time to get (365 flashy background finishes)... I'd say for a very long time, especially if there are fighters added via DLC.

He's not so hard after you figure his tendencies out, which is pretty much synonymous with figuring out how to not get grab raped.

I need to beat the game with 5 more characters to unlock Seth (Rose, Dhalsim, Rufus, Zangief, El Fuente). And fucking Seth is grab raping and uppercutting the shit outta these characters. I was so frustrated I had to turn to Akuma just to beat his ass for my own satisfaction.

I'm really suprised that worked. Shit those manufacturing machines polishes the disc, snaps it to the case, and wraps it up pretty precisely.

I said that it never let me play and said the disc was unreadable from the word go...

the guy brought a geek squad dude over and he said to give me another copy and explained to me that either 1 of 2 things happened... either i moved the xbox while it was running or there is a physical defect in the laser and it scratched it... i feigned ignorance and was like "O RLY?"

i think even if i admitted my friends obese cat knocked it over he'd have given it to me... he seemed real cool.

my roommate is going batshit over not being able to unlock gouken. he does all the required things and then loses to seth.

its pretty funny actually because he's a big baby and turns off the game and goes to his room, which i don't mind because then I get to play Left 4 Dead. :toast

online play is fun... but jesus zangief is a cheap bastard. all people do is his spinning lariat and it's annoying as fuck because it hits for massive damage and anytype of ranged attack goes right through. can't really get up close either because he's a grappler and will fuck your day up.

Yeah Zanqueef pisses me off. As soon an someone chooses him, i go with Akuma and spam the shit outta them with air fireballs. The spinning Lariat avoids the fireball but you can run up to him and trip his ass by the time they're done spinning.

that's the thing... people who choose zangief are afraid to show they're gonna pick him. the last guy to pick him had his cursor over ken, then as soon as i picked my character, he quickly moved to zangief and we started.

i usually play with sakura because she's balanced and her strengths are things im comfortable with. I only have about 30 online matches under my belt.. so ive only faced him a handful of times. but god was i pissed at how cheap he was used.


and akuma is weak sauce too ... his ultra combo takes literally more than half your damn health.

True, people do that a lot, with Ken/Ryu/Akuma as well. Not much you can do.

Yeah I like Sakura too, though not as much as Cammy. I'm also liking playing with M. Bison.

The cheapness from Akuma honestly comes from his air fireballs. His ultra combo is pretty easy to avoid with practice -- I mean even a light jab stops it. :lol

Plus even if he's sliding towards you while you're on the ground, as long as you jump back the second you get up, he can't get you (even though he should!).

The thing is that he's doing it on the easiest difficulty already. He plays night and day and I barely dabble in the game so I expect him to be better than me, but when we fight its never really a contest. I absolutely demolish him with Ken and I am really not good at all.

I feel bad for him, but I don't want to do it for him because that will probably hurt his pride even more. Whatever, its character building (no pun intended) I guess.

I was stuck on those for a long time too. It's all in the timing and the button presses.

press and hold MP to punch... then do the forward/down/forward down motion... then release MP.

you need to time the end of the motion to the end of the punch animation. it takes a bit to get used to... but it works.

Well, the thing about Gouki (Akuma) is that that particular attack (Shun Goku Satsu/Instant Hell Murder/Raging Demon pre-SFIV or Shin Shun Goku Satsu/True Instant Hell Murder/Wrath Of The Raging Demon in SFIV) has always done about 60% worth of a life bar, as far as I can remember. It definitely does in SF Alpha 3, though, for whatever that might be worth.

Also, Sagat is by far the strongest motherfucker in the game. I'm tempted to say he's unbalanced. Good juggling skills, can be connected with the Ultra combo, which is almost as strong as Akuma. Plus, he has the strongest stamina of anyone not named Zangief.

I doubt it. SFIV is reported to be a completely balanced game. There are probably weaknesses, but you hafta find them.

Actually, I believe there's a rankings system based on all the character's attributes. I think in the guide Sagat was the only "S ranked" character in the game (highest tier). Also, they created a matchup table showing the likelihood of beating someone of equal skill with a particular character.

Obviously this isn't gospel, and anymore can beat anymore, but it shows how Sagat is slightly above the rest.

from what i can tell, sagat's weakness is his long recover time from his tiger shots. If you can simply jump in after he shoots then you can combo him up pretty good.
