The Mavs used to be a great team but just like any other great teams their window closes at some point, tonight was a great example of how poor our coaching is, how poor our chemistry is and how mediocre our front office is. The Mavs have entered phase 2 which means they will get you 40-44 wins and if they do indeed make the playoffs with that record which is un-likely at this point in time they will accomplish nothing in the playoffs except get you a win or two.

If the Mavericks continue on the same path as they are on now, next season be prepared to experience the begining of phase 3 which literally means they will just flat out suck and Dirk will start to talk and demand trades and if the front office does not come through this will finally put the nail in the coffin of the Mavs of the 2000's and they will sink into to the floor of the western conference much like the timberwolves and lakers for a short period of time a few years ago....

I want to thank Dirk and the 2006 team for the fun they gave us..

We love our team.

Agreed, but if phase 2 is 40-44 wins I think we're a year away from that.

In 2010 assuming we dont strike gold with the faulty "2010 plan" will probably be when we really start sucking.

This "path" seems so hard to break the trend of as well. We have an old roster and our best young talents are tweeners or simply not that good, it takes more than a trade to mitigate that, it takes a god damn miracle.

Right so that justifies inaction b/c there are no miracles out there. It takes some competent trades here and there to start the process again.

But everything is a "lateral move" to them.

"He's old, his contract, he's not worth it, he won't put us over the top, let's wait until 2010, blahblahblahblah"

I was referring to V C with all of that , I cant imagine V C turning is into an elite team, or delaying our decline since he himself is in the twilight of his career as well.

These type of trades really do not turn a team from mediocre to elite IMO. You need a big time infusion of talent, V C is just a slight upgrade over Howard.

The Lakers became elite because Gasol was a HUGE infusion of talent, nothing lateral about that.

The Celtics became elite because they turned picks, scrubs, and a young big man into 3 hall of famers.

Spurs, Cavs, Magic became elite because they lucked their way into the #1 pick.

Iverson for Billups is an example though of similarly talented players (although Billups is better) of making a team significantly better, but I dont think they're elite.

Talking about Carter here, Swapping J-Ho for Carter wouldn't change the fact that the Lakers have a better superstar, deeper bench, better passing, offense, defense, everything. And if we're talking about elite teams than the Lakers should be a blueprint.

Dirk will go ringless b/c Cuban will never let him go and Dirk is too nice to say "fuck you for a shitty team"

The rotting corpse of Stackhouse will still be here to "mentor" our future of Gerald Green and JJ Barea.
Hey maybe, they can win a D-league championship.

Well Dirk will go ringless because in 2006 the Cheat got a bunch of bullshit calls and hit fluke shots.

But part of the problem is Dirk himself. It's harder to build a championship team around Dirk than it is guys like Hakeem, Jordan, KoME the primadonna, Duncan, etc.

I shouldn't say Dirk is a problem though. He's a top 10 player, some teams just dont luck their ways into championship centerpiece players, which is why half the teams dont have championships in thisleague.

He's too unconventional, too one way, some flaws in his game such as not being able to totally exploit size mismatches (like tonight)...can have a really shitty shooting game to cost a team a game, a franchise player, but not a franchise championship player.

He has to be in a situation like Boston's (3 stars, 3 hall of famers) to ever have a chance as a ring as the best player on a team, those types of situations are difficult to emulate.

A post I totally agree with.

Each player of Boston had their flaws when they were the lone franchise player early in their careers which prevented them from being championship caliber players.

KG=Was simply not clutch enough in the 4th quarter and was unselfish to a fault was his knock.

Ray Ray= Great scorer, but only played one way player, No D. Plus he doesn't get to the line enough to considered a top notch superstar.

Pierce= The closest of the big three to being a championship caliber player. Has mid-range game, can bang, Can hit the 3. But I really never saw him as a great defensive player until recently.

Together tho they compliment each other and help cover for their flaws as individuals which is why they are successful.

Championship players all on their own (not mentioning the Bostons trio) include Duncan, Kobe, Lebron, DWade, CP3, and Dwight Howard. All these players are two-way players and can exploit mismatches and create a shot for themselves or teammates and can get to the line to weather the storm when other teams go on runs.

You had a good run, just came up short. Oh well, only one team can win it all. Rebuilding sucks, but probably better to jump in head first and get good picks for your assets now, rather than hanging onto nothing for too long.

It is so sad seeing a team that was once very close to winning a championship to what they are now. Oh well. It's just a sport. They get paid millions to go out there and play. Can't feel that bad for them.

I'd consider a first round exit and the resulting public humiliation quite an accomplishment for the hapless mavs. :toast:flag::flag::flag:
