February 20: AUSTIN
Traded F Mohamed Abukar to IDAHO for C Dwayne Jones.

I like Abukar's shooting, but he really couldn't do anything else.

This may signal a Pops call up -- Jones is good insurance in that respect and if Pops doesn't work out, Jones could be the next to be tried.

:lol We were just talking about Dwayne Jones the other day. ChumpDumper = Dell Demps?

Like I said, I like what I've seen from him. Very good rebounder. No offense whatsoever but his rebounding and his potential to be a shot blocker is intriguing.

Good size. But not having any knowledge of the Spurs system means he'll have no chance to play this year.

Toros finally get a true centre and should benefit from it. Although Abukar had been playing well lately.

Down 66-54 to the 14ers at the half.

14ers were shooting lights out early. Jones plays really solid defense.

This should end the comparisions with that guy who was called up by the Suns, Pops is putting up similar stats on a team he has no familiarity with, halfway thru the season, AND after coming back from a shoulder injury. I think he's done getting his conditioning is back.

5 PFs, 4 stls, and 1 TO/bk, not too shabby. He does like fouling though.

Hey chump, is he a hard foul guy who wouldn't rack up And1s for Spurs' opponents? Or is it the other way around?

According to this article it says Toronto has held workouts with Pops and Antoine Walker. They'd like to add one of them soon.

Keep in mind, it went in to OT, and that had something to do with the 5 fouls. He played most of the game. He isnt like Ian who fouls people because they look like they want to be fouled. I remember 2 of his fouls came on stopping dunks, which he did successfully.

Did he get a call-up from the Spurs? Otherwise he is fair game for any NBA team that has an open roster spot.

He's not the property of the Spurs though. While he is signed by the Toros any team can sign him if he wants to go there.

Good to hear, but wth do you mean by saying Ian fouls those who look like they want it?

Indeed. It's not like the Hairston situation where we have him signed. He is a free agent and can be signed by anyone.

With teams starting to look at him I suspect he will get a 10 day before the Dallas game unless the CIA Spurs have someone else already on the radar. But even with that they can release him from the 10 day at any time.

Full line for Pops today: 39pts, 18reb, 3ast, 4st, 1blk, 13-23 FG, 13-16 FT

Id love to agree with you, but I cant. I remember a year and a half ago I believe, he was on the Cavs, and just didnt play. Thats on a definsive minded team, before Ben Wallace. It was Z and Drew Gooden, with Andy off the bench. Thats one good defensive player. I dont see Jones helping us at all since Thomas is better on O and D, and even Oberto has better O. I could see Pops though, because he can score. We do need a few more points sometimes.

They certainly are different players. Pops is an energy tweener type while Jones is a more traditional defensive center. Pops had ridiculous numbers, but he was really the third best big man defender on the Toros today after Jones and Dawson.

I remember that too (i remember mike brown was the coach so)

but I think Jones is stronger and bigger player... a big body (a mix between Rasho and Terry Cummings? :downspin: )
so he can help with rebounds (and boxin'out), fouls and 'presence'.-

Pops might be the one player who could catch and throw down Parker's ridiculously high alley oop passes.
