Tracy has played his last game in a Rockets jersey. I was so glad we didn't trade him, letting that contract expire is the best thing this franchise can do.

Why didn't he go to the medical center to have his surgery?

It's also going to be wonderful for us to find a true superstar as well. For the money that bitch is paid we can go after anyone.

Yes and then it comes off the books......that's what I'm talking about. McGrady isn't going to play next season, it's takes atleast a year to come back from that injury. A year from now is pretty much the whole season and McGrady isn't known for his "quick healing".

This is great news, he gets fixed, and the Rockets are better without him.

Trade him next year in a S&T for Mike Bibby and another player.

I'd be more inclined to let him attempt a comeback and letting his contract expire. Getting that fatass contract off the books when LeBron(lol)/Wade/Bosh/Joe Johnson/etc. become free agents is great situation.

RIP HAMILTON is the answer you buffoons!

I watch just about ever Pistons/Rockets games and RIP would SO fit in, he wouldn't disrupt anything because all he does is move around and shoot off of curls and screens at an extremely high %

And about TMAC, meh i loved him in 05 but dude has some serious mental issues he neeeds to work out but its not like his career was boring...This season was tough for him, and I doubt we ever see that vintage T-Mac, I'm glad he's saying it's over since the Rockets are playing much better without an injured McGrady. I'm happy with all he's provided in the past 4 years (even though the playoffs game 7 loses weren't all on him, obviously he has a way of speaking to the media the wrong way). Though 2 scoring tittles, 7 all star apperances, 7 time all nba team (2 first , 3 second, 2 third), 22 game winning streak, most clutch play in NBA history, and 2 time top 5 in MVP voting, 4 time top 10 in MVP voting, 6th all-time playoff PER, 4th all time playoff PPG isn't bad at all for a player that hasn't even turned 30 yet. Good riddance, and I'm finally happy that all the drama is now officially over.

HOUSTON -- Houston Rockets (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=hou) guard Tracy McGrady (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=532) will be out 6-12 months after microfracture surgery on his left knee scheduled for Tuesday, but the team doctor is optimistic that the seven-time All-Star will regain his old form.

McGrady

Dr. Tom Clanton said Monday that McGrady has a tiny lesion on his knee joint under his kneecap that was first detected in an MRI exam taken after the Rockets were eliminated from the playoffs in April. McGrady and the Rockets discussed microfracture surgery then, but opted for arthroscopic surgery, a more "conservative" approach that got McGrady ready for the start of the season, Clanton said.
But McGrady started having knee pain almost immediately after the season began. The Rockets tried limiting his practice time, keeping him out of the second games of back-to-back sets and resting him for two weeks in January, but the knee didn't improve.
"He did the best he could, tried to work through it," Rockets trainer Keith Jones said. "Everybody needs to know he pushed it, and he was so adamant about playing with this team."
Clanton said he may have erred by clearing McGrady to play in September, but added that McGrady was also part of that decision.
"I've told Tracy that I will take the blame," Clanton said. "I think that I let him return to play a little too quickly. That was obviously his decision as well. Perhaps if we had strengthened his knee more at the start, maybe he wouldn't have had these symptoms."
McGrady, in his 12th season, showed some flashes of the player he was before the injury, scoring 30 in a loss to Portland in November and getting a triple-double in a win over Denver in December. If the surgery and rehab are successful, Clanton thinks McGrady will have that potential when he returns.
"He'll be to a point where he will be as good as you saw him this season, when he's been at his best," Clanton said. "That would be what I would expect."
Several NBA players have undergone microfracture knee surgery with mixed results. Amare Stoudemire (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=1727) and Jason Kidd (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=429) are among notable players who've resumed their careers successfully after the procedure; Chris Webber (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=897) and Penny Hardaway (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=302) are among the group who were never the same.
Clanton said the 29-year-old McGrady has several factors in his favor, starting with his age. Clanton also said the joint damage is in a "favorable location," not near a weight-bearing area, and that McGrady's knee is otherwise healthy.
"My expectation is that he will be able to resume play and be as athletic as he was before," Clanton said.
McGrady first revealed that he would undergo microfracture surgery in an interview with ESPN's Stephen A. Smith last Tuesday. McGrady then made a public announcement on his Web site the following day. Coach Rick Adelman lashed out at McGrady for not properly informing the team and general manager Daryl Morey said he wanted to talk to McGrady about his apparent decision.
On Monday, the team officially confirmed that McGrady would have the surgery in Chicago, and McGrady apologized on his Web site to team owner Leslie Alexander and the Rockets for "this entire situation."
"I'm sorry to all those who were counting on me to help this team achieve great things," McGrady said. "Coach Adelman has been extremely accommodating and patient with me while we have tried to work through this, and I am thankful to him for that. It's hard enough to prepare night in and night out to go up against the best players in the world, and it's even harder to do it without knowing the status of your players."
McGrady averaged 15.6 points, five assists and 4.4 rebounds this season. The Rockets are 15-6 in the 21 games he's missed, 8-1 in the last nine.
Houston is 35-21, fifth in the Western Conference, heading into Tuesday's game against Portland. The Blazers are a half-game ahead of the Rockets in the West standings.

Surgery will end McGrady's season (http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/spurs/Surgery_will_end_McGradys_season.html)
By Jonathan Feigen - Houston Chronicle

HOUSTON — Taking the most aggressive but uncertain approach to his left knee problems, Tracy McGrady will undergo season-ending microfracture surgery this morning.

The procedure will keep him out for six to 12 months and comes with a risk, though slight, that he might not be able to return at all.

“In the worst-case scenario, we're recommending a procedure that is going to end his career,” said Rockets team physician Dr. Tom Clanton, who will observe the surgery performed by Dr. Brian Cole today in Chicago. “It is always troubling to make that kind of recommendation with any athlete. We also know if they reach the point they say, ‘I can't keep doing it like this,' you've got to do something to try to help them.

“It is a risky knee surgery. Not everybody that has microfracture surgery comes back and plays basketball, much less NBA-level basketball.”

The procedure is considered much less risky for McGrady. His joint surface damage unprotected by the usual amount of cartilage is less than a half-centimeter, requiring less cartilage replacement, and because the lesion is on a non-weight-bearing bone beneath the kneecap.

Clanton also was optimistic because he said McGrady has an otherwise “great looking” knee in the weight-bearing parts of the joint.

The surgery will create small holes in the bone at the base of the articular cartilage to allow blood to form clots with bone marrow elements that will produce a new cartilage surface.

McGrady had problems with the knee last season, requiring that the team remove fluid buildup and inject anti-inflammatory and lubrication solutions. Though the MRI last May showed the same level of cartilage damage evident now, arthroscopic surgery was performed May 6 to try and avoid microfracture surgery.

With club personnel critical of the way McGrady handled the announcement of his decision last week, he issued an apology to the Rockets organization, owner Leslie Alexander and coach Rick Adelman.

“I would like to apologize to Les Alexander, the Rockets organization, and of course all the fans out there for this entire situation,” McGrady wrote at his Web site, t-mac.com. “Les and the Rockets have been nothing short of amazing to me and my family during my entire time with them, and for that I thank them. ... Coach (Rick) Adelman has been extremely accommodating and patient with me while we have tried to work through this, and I am thankful to him for that.

“My personal focus now is to look forward and dedicate myself 100 percent to returning to the court and returning to be the player I was and know that I still am.”
