View Full Version : Where do you rank Duncan?

I mentioned in the basketball forum how Lebron and CP3 were better than Kobe statistically the last two seasons. I forgot to add in Duncan, but its difficult to compare him with those 3 since he is down on the block while they are more perimeter oriented. Still, he averages 20.7 on 51% shooting with 10.7 boards, 3.8 assists, and 1.9 blocks. Its safe to say he's the best PF in the league, but where do you rank him statistically with Lebron, Kobe, and CP3? An all-NBA team would look like this:
PG Paul
SG Kobe
SF Lebron
PF Duncan
C Who cares?

For one, he is the best player is Spurs history, and I don't have to think about that a nanosecond. That's saying something when David Robinson played here (and Ice).
Duncan is way way up there - a sure HOFer. One of the top 3 or 4 power forward ever to play for sure, and arguably the best.
The weird thing about Tim is his consistency statistically. Since Manu and Tony have come on the scene and blossomed, Duncan has not had to shoulder as much of the production offensively. He has been a 21 point 11 rebound player for five years now. He really looks like (with good health) he can keep it going another three or four years, which would be fantastic.

There is no question that Tim is the best PF ever. The 2 best after him are Karl Malone and Charles Barkley, and Tim has done way more than both of them in less time.

Lebron becuase I can't think of another SF right now so he would be my choice, probably can't think of one because there is no one available to match, well Vince but his track record hurt him.

Russel is so overrated....
If I have first choice of all the players in the league to lead my team into a winner takes all, Game 7 of the Finals, I take Duncan. You can surround him with average players in a one off game, and he would give you the best chance to win...
In my mind, he is still a Top 5 player in the league, and the best bigman. The only players that I would accept arguments for being better than Timmy at the moment would be LeBron, Kobe, Paul and maybe Wade.
He will only truly be appreciated by the masses, and perhaps even by some Spurs fans, until he is gone.

I wonder why the national media never considers Duncan as the best player in the game even though he has 4 rings, yet constantly discuss between Kobe & Lebron. I havd Lebron and CP3 ahead of Kobe. I think I would put Duncan ahead of Paul for now. Duncan statistically is very efficient. Lebron has great numbers too with scoring, assists, and decent rebounding, but shoots a lower FG% than Duncan. I'm torn between Duncan & Lebron just based on the overall numbers.

Kobe is better than Lebron or CP3 because when he plays them head 2 head his stats may not be as good but late in the games (OT vs. Hornets 4th Qtr vs Bron) he made the plays Lebron or CP3 couldnt and a national audience saw both games ...

for best players in the NBA..it's tough..Kobe and Lebron are 1 and 2 right now, and that isn't debatable IMO..Wade would be the logical choice at 3, but he doesn't impact the game as much as Duncan and Howard do defensively..
so for me..
#1. Kobe
#2. Lebron
#3. Duncan
#4. Howard
#5. Paul
#6. Wade
as for all-time rankings, when Duncan's career is over IMO..
#1. Jordan
#2. Wilt
#3. Kareem
#4. Russell
#5. Bird
#6. Magic
#7. Duncan
#8. O'Neal
#9. Olajuwon
#10. probably Dr.J..I expect Kobe to end up here if he wins a title as the #1 option..

This is dumbest post ever. D-Will never beats CP3. His team just executes better on the head-to-head matchups. D-Williams is 14-14 in the playoffs while CP3 is 7-5. Looks like CP3 has the better record. Take away Utah's record against the 8th seeded Warriors and he's just 10-13.
Dirk's numbers in the regular season aren't as good as Duncan. That's a fact.
Lebron played just as well as Pierce in that series last season. Plus, he's been to the Finals as well without 2 other HOFers.
Also, if Kobe was more efficient, the Lakers wouldn't need his scoring in the 4th. Besides he took 30 shots against the Hornets to win the game. Pretty sad. Kobe was irrelevant for 3 years without Shaq until last season. His basketball IQ isn't as high as Lebron's or CP3. His offensive arsenal is stacked, but he could be more effective.
You're a dumbass whore who has no clue about anything, especially basketball.

It's just not true. CP3 has outplayed Williams the last two seasons. Better numbers and better record. Williams doesn't have the overall game to match CP3. Williams has alot of talent and is bigger than CP3, but he's not a basketball genius like CP3. Other than shooting, CP3 does everything better, including defense and rebounding. He even has a higher 3 point % than Williams. CP3 is the 2nd best perimeter player in the league behind Lebron. Numbers don't lie.

I rather have Deron solely on the fact that Deron is not a whiny little girl on the court. I would not want little immature pussies in my team.
Take a look at last years series vs. Spurs. CP3 meltdown was one of the factors Hornets lost. Deron would not have acted like that.
And Deron has been the best PG since the Allstar break.

That's not true either. CP3 has put up better numbers since the break. Williams is scoring alot, but that's about it.
That game 6 was frustrating due to some of the calls in the 3rd quarter. He wasn't the only Hornet frustrated. Plus, the Hornets couldn't efficiently run their offense after both West (back) and Chandler (toe) were injured at the end of game 5. They lost their transition ability and the pick n roll became ineffective. The Spurs had Manu injured so its a wash, plus they executed better in Game 7. Utah would have never gotten to a game 7.
