The price was $250, so he said he would overnight me a check to include the cost of the item plus shipping because he wanted me to have it sent somewhere. So today UPS comes and brings me a check for 4,600...and I'm like what the hell, that's way too much. I've contacted the buyer about it, so we'll see what happens.

But part of me wants to just go deposit into my bank and let that be that. :lol

It's a scam, you deposit the check, send him the remainder (4600.00 - 250), then when the check comes back as a fake you have to pay the bank back 4600.00 and he makes 4350.00

Only deal locally when using Craigslist.

EDIT: But the good news is that this scammer wasted money overnighting you a fake check...

Scam:

Send large fake check to some one selling something on a website.

Have them deposit the money in their personal account, then ask them to wire the money back to you via Western Union.

When that happens the bank will honor the withdrawal with real money.

When the bank finds out that the check was fake the mark/sucker is then personally on the line for ALL of the funds taken out.

The check has no identifiable personal information, or is a very good copy of a real check.

There was no return address on the check to begin with, I would guess.
