Fat Tuesday, Feb. 24th, 2009, or Mardi Gras is also National Pancake Day. Think of it as IHOP Free Pancake Day.
IHOP is serving free short stacks, more or less. It is free pancake day, but their site says one free short stack per customer and "All we ask is that you consider making a donation to support local children's hospitals through Children's Miracle Network, or other local charities."
IHOP began its National Pancake Day celebration in 2006. Since then it has raised nearly $2 million to support charities in the communities in which it operates. For Free Pancake Day 2009, IHOP hopes to raise $1,000,000 for Children’s Miracle Network.
Free Pancake Day 2009 runs from 7 AM to 10 PM. Now, if you're hungry and you can't figure out the directions to the nearest IHOP, we can help you there.

Known also as Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras, National Pancake Day dates back several centuries to when the English prepped for fasting during Lent. Strict rules prohibited the eating of all dairy products during Lent, so pancakes were made to use up the supply of eggs, milk, butter and other dairy products ... hence the name Pancake Tuesday, or Shrove Tuesday.
