First post on this forum. I think appropriate place to have my first post as well.
Originally from Tacoma, WA - moved to Berkeley for school, and currently in San Jose, CA. Became a Spurs fan in middle school when I did a biography on David Robinson. I've been die hard ever since, and have worn a Spurs rubber band for 3 years straight on my left wrist!
Oh, and I don't root for any Cali team except for my Cal Golden Bears (my alma mater). My loyalties are Spurs, Manchester United soccer, and Cal sports.

Although there is a very small percentage of Californians that do not like the lakers most will pull for them in the finals because of their california roots. I have a friend who came out here when he was 15 years old from the east coast. He was a piston fan and he does not like the lakers either but he is what I call a bandwagon fan. His team is whatever team beats the lakers. My question to the california fans that are now Spurs fans, how long have you been Spurs fans? If you became fans in 2003 or later, you're bandwagon fans. Out of all the teams to choose, you chose the Spurs? The Spurs were a pretty boring team and have been for years. They participated in some of the ugliest basketball in the history of the NBA finals. Tim Duncan, a great player but not one of the most graceful players to ever suit up. He's a big whinner and a serial molester. So my question, What exactly attracted to you the spurs? :angel

The last i checked, he's achieved far more than Kobe & Shaq.
BTW he's the most graceful player in the NBA. Care for a dictionary or does raping white girls (or buying a 10 mil dollar diamond ring to shut your wife) account for grace. :rolleyes

I hated them back when cedric ceballos was their best player. I just hate everything that douchey franchise stands for and the fact that most of my friends are laker fans who dont know shit about bball. <----------- Phoenix Spurs fan here (close to Cali :))
Although I was born and raised in AZ I have family that is from SA and Austin. My uncle is a huge Spurs fan and I remember him and I always watching Spurs games together when I was around 4 (1990/1991). He would always buy me Spurs gear for my birthday/Christmas presents so naturally I have always been a Spurs fan. I do admit I was also a big follower of Michael and the Bulls but I still have the Black and Silver in my veins.
Being from AZ I am a HUGE hater of the Phoenix Suns. I have never liked them and never will. During the 93 Finals (Bulls/Suns) I was the only kid at my elementary school rooting against them, and even back then all PHX fans did was cry and bitch.

I understand the David Robinson point that was made. I like the rockets because of the Dream. SoCal born and raised. Spurs fan since Robinson was drafted. Like the Dodgers, USC, Raiders, and the Clippers are my adopted local team.
Always despised the Lakers and always will. It's not because they win, it's not because of their popularity, it's not because of their players. I hate them for one reason and one reason only:
Their fans.
Their fans, many of whom I grew up with, are the among the most arrogant, entitled, and annoying in all of fandom. Combine this with the heavy population of bandwagoners and idiotic celebrities, and you get the worst fanbase in all of sports.
On a side note LOS ANGELES Lakers fans, your team has 9 titles, not 14. As a Dodger fan, which I became by virtue of my location, I don't count the title won in Brooklyn. Many of you would be rooting for the Clippers if the Lakers didn't relocate.

Whether you count them or not those are titles that belong to the lakers and btw, it was Minneapolis.
I don't count those early titles of Boston and others because in that day the NBA stood for No Blacks Allowed. Lawyers, doctors and politicians could buy spots on the roster. So the best players were not playing at that time and there were about 8 or 9 teams with boston buying all of the good players. So by my math, its 9-7 Lakers.

My question to you is, if you're a fan of the game and you want to see it played the right way, how can you not like the Spurs? As much as I watch Spurs games with the opponent team commentating, most of them say that the Spurs play the game the right way.
How can you play the game the wrong way and be the winning team in all sports in the past decade? (rhetorical question) So they must be doing something right.

if you really want to keep it real, you should only count the championships that you were actually alive to see. it doesn't get any more bandwagon than bragging about all the championships that your team won when most of them happened before you were even born.

IMO, spurs are like the 49ers with montana and rice. they come in, take care of business and leave all that arrogant showboating at the door.
i don't want all teams to have the characteristics of the spurs cause that would be boring. but you gotta respect a persons favorite team... even if its in a different state.

I do respect them, I don't like them but I respect them and their accomplishments in the league. I take a shot at them every chance I get though. :p:

I believe it was the Lakers that "participated in some of the ugliest basketball in the history of the NBA finals" - when they got swept by the Pistons in '04.
that championship should have been ours !
You can't say it should have been your title seeing the Lakers beat the spurs that year to get there.

Well I don't look at it that way, that you have to win the title to play the game the right way. I do respect your favorite team I just wanted to know what made them your favorite.
when i got into bball, drob just got drafted and i would watch him and the spurs. thats like the 100th person that said they're a spurs fan cause of drob. he's a class act. you can't say anything negative about him and he represents the spurs. i honestly don't find them boring. they may be not as exciting as other teams but they're not boring.
