Just a fun article

Happy 10-year anniversary, lovers of the basketball equivalent of the long ball. Thursday will make it an even decade since the Raptors started their NBA-record 837-game streak of hitting at least one three-pointer.

The streak started on Feb. 26, 1999, when Vince Carter hit a three-pointer at the 7:43 mark of the first quarter against Minnesota. The streak reached 837 when Jose Calderon hit a three-pointer at the 7:56 mark of the first quarter on Tuesday against, yes, Minnesota.

In between those shots, there have been quite a few oddities that have been part of the streak. Here are a few of those more interesting numbers:

24 The number of times the Raptors have finished a game with just one successful three-pointer. The most memorable instance of that was Nov. 29, 2006, when Darrick Martin hit a three-pointer with just 0.6 seconds remaining in a 117-98 loss in Dallas. (I was there and the Dallas fans had no clue why he took that shot and the bench cheered when it went in!)

56 The number of players who have hit at least one three-pointer for Toronto during the streak.

10 The number of players who have hit only one three-pointer for Toronto during the streak. That group of elite shooters consists of Uros Slokar, Art Long, Marcus Banks, Rafael Araujo, Derrick Dial, Greg Foster, Rasho Nesterovic, Kevin Willis, Jerome Williams and Michael Bradley

.453 The best three-point shooting percentage of any Raptor who has made at least 25 three-pointers during the streak. It belongs to Jason Kapono.

.273 The worst three-point shooting percentage of any Raptor who has made at least 25 three-pointers during the streak. It belongs to both Tracy McGrady and Charles Oakley, who both went 26-for-95 during the streak.

801 The number of three-pointers hit by the biggest contributor to the streak, Morris Peterson. Vince Carter (551), Anthony Parker (317), Andrea Bargnani (273) and Donyell Marshall (271) round out the top five.

12 The number of three-pointers Donyell Marshall hit on March 13, 2005, tying an NBA record for most three-pointers made in a single game. The Raptors hit 21 as a team in that game, a single-game record before the Magic hit 24 in a game earlier this season.

0 The number of times the Raptors have led the NBA in three-point accuracy during the streak. They finished second in the league with a .392 success rate last year. They have finished in the top-10 in the league six times.

5,020 The number of three-pointers the Raptors have hit during the streak.

830 The number of consecutive games the Dallas Mavericks have hit at least one three-pointer in heading into their game Wednesday against Milwaukee.

How is this in any way, shape, or form, pathetic? I think it's a pretty cool record.

It seems so damn hard to make ZERO 3-pointers in a game. It's kinda surprising there aren't 20-25 teams with a 10 year 3-PT streak.
