mmm, don't know. I think we definitely need Duncan but maybe it should be Tony running the show.

Kinda like the Heat when they won it. Dwade was running the show but of course Shaq was there.

Tim is the foundation of this team until the day he retires.

No!

And TP will even admit that! They both know that the Big 3 all needs to be healthy to win a championship!!!

TD is still the anchor but he will give more and more to TP and MG!!

I don't think anyone is even asking this question.

Well except for you.

Look at the thread that Sequ started, there are some really stupid thoughts in there.

Parker deserves credit for how he's playing. It doesn't take anything away from Duncan.

It is Duncan's team, it has been since 2003. As we get closer to his retiring the reins will go to someone else. I think it will be Parker's team if he wants it.

It's Tim son. If it was DWade or Kobe, I might say yes. Maybe even CP3, but not TP. I think he is officially better than Deron, DWill still hasn't been voted in the Allstar game(from what I remember someone saying around the ASG).

did everybody forget that we went 5-2 without Parker and Manu earlier in the season? Did everybody forget that Tony was struggling for a while before this current stretch? Did everybody forget that Duncan has been carrying us all year so far?..

Duncan is the best big man in the NBA..you have to go with the big man without question, especially in the playoffs..

It's not 2003 anymore, the responsabilities on the offensive end are a lot more balanced.
Duncan is still playing great and is the anchor on the defensive end, but he shares the responsabilities with Tony on the offensive side then Ginobili takes over.
Any team pretending to win a championship needs to have three scoring options. The great thing about this Spurs team is that potentially Mason and Bonner can also score big time.

Duncan was, is and will always be the man. But the fact that it's necessary to clarify that point speaks volumes to how well Tony is playing right now.

It's Duncan's team until he's gone, but he's already doing what D-Rob did with him. Timmy is stepping aside not only so that Tony grows even more but he's getting up in age that he doesn't want to carry the team night in and night out (he said so last year).

Exactly. The bigger share of the load that Parker, and everyone else for that matter, can take off of Tim's shoulders during the regular season the better the odds of squeezing an extra ring out of the Duncan era.

It seems to me a lot of Spurs fans have become bored with winning and some people like to create drama...so they can still be interested.

And thats why it should be changed to Playoffs MVP. Duncan carried the team throughout the playoffs, and was the more dominant, and better player. In the Finals though, the biggest mismatch was at PG so the Spurs exploited that, and Parker played incredible and got the Finals MVP. Duncan was still the leader, and best player on that championship team.

It kind of bugs me when people compare Duncan and Shaq as equals in terms of Finals MVP's. Duncan was the best player and the leader on ALL 4 title teams, while Shaq was clearly second fiddle by a long way on his 4th title.

Having said all of that, on today's Spurs, Parker is every bit as important as Duncan is. The workload is spread more evenly. These last two games have shown me, albeit a small sample size, Parker is every bit the PG CP3 and Deron are. All along ive said given the chance, or the keys to a team, he could put up ridiculous statistics like Paul and Deron. He has to share the load much more than those two, so by looking at stats people view those two guys as better than TP.

Parker is a beast. And a top 15 player in the NBA.

obviously Duncan defers to Parker, he's a team player..there's nothing wrong with having Tony be a primary ballhandler, he's obviously a star player..my point is simply that Duncan will be the #1 option in the playoffs, just like how it's always been..

Tony got the finals MVP, because that was the smart move by the team..he was playing against an injured Larry Hughes and other guys that couldn't guard him..obviously when the matchups are different, Tony and Manu will be our main guys..

Tony has to run the show for the spurs and maybe even to be the first offensive option. He earned it and he's as good, and above all, that's the best thing for the spurs.

but it's still Tim's team without a doubt. not only because he's a big (and that's easier for Big to be franchise player) but because he's Tim Duncan, the archetype of a franchise player.

and as much as i admire tony and as i find his treatment here just amazing (look at the kind of thread he had with two crazy games where he led us without tim and manu), he'll never be a winning franchise player like Tim, that's really clear. indeed, i only see LBJ and Shaq in his prime to equal Tim's excellence when it comes to franchise player.
