As a huge sports card collector in the 90s I often wondered why my Tim Duncan card never went up in value. Could it be the folks at Beckett knew something I didn't? The same with the Grant Hills.

I told you all many times Tim was just one good hit to the knee away from early retirement and you all told me to go to hell. I was not wishing bad Karma I was just keeping it real. It's time the spurs make a huge trade before you end up with another Chris Webber/Grant Hill type player next season.

At one time it was at 75.00 dollars. The problem with that card they made two many of them. You would get 4 rookies per pack. If you bought a box of cards you may get 16 David robin son rookies.

The folks at Beckett do their homework. If a card goes down or won't go up they know that player is history.

Maybe if you guys act now you may be able to trade Tim for Keith Van Horn! :tu

i thought i was tough shit with my 2 boxes of skybox back in like 4th/5th grade. cheese!

anyhow, a tim duncan rookie card? hmm... i'd say it wouldn't break your bank just like the drob rc wouldn't, but i would also say the tdunk rc has got to be the higher priced card. last i checked my drob rc was like 2 bones. fuckin' $2! what the shit?

i used to collect. now i just keep faith that i never get any type of brain loss disease or anything.

You people want to use your 15 minutes of fame in my world class topic tossing 1990s lame insults go right ahead. But I know for a fact that the sports card industry have all kinds of connections with agents scouts team doctors etc... they have to know who is hurt, who is on drugs, who is going to be a star. They have to project who the next MJ or Larry bird will be.

If you really want to know who is going to make it in sports buy a Becket you will see how they break it down to a science. And that is why Tim Duncan cards have not gone up in price since 2000 they know shit you all can only dream about knowing. Like his knee ready to blow.

The sports card industry values the cards based on the same thing that ESPN does...style over substance. That would be why you haven't seen much of a rise in his rookie card.

Not to mention the Vatican, the World Bank, and the Tri-Lateral Commission. Plus they have a guy channelling the spirit of Nostradamus. And most NBA teams keep Upper Deck on retainer for draft night.

You'll know that the second coming of Michael Jordan has occurred when you see foil prices going up worldwide. They will be buying it up for rookie cards.

What style did Honus Wagner have? The man was about as much fun as watching Shindlers list with SequSpur after the Spurs lose to the Mavs by 29 points.

And yet his card is worth $2.3 million

Tell me you're kidding. Maybe because the Honus card is 100 freaking years old. I'm sure in 90 years, the Timmy card will be worth a lot as well. And how do you know Honus didn't have style? . Beckett obviously doesn't know shit about who is going to make it in sports b/c last time I checked Tim Duncan :lobt2:

The folks at the Beckett know if an injury is more serious than the public knows. The people at Upper Deck and Topps have a business to run they can't have a card go up in price if a player is not going to ever break any of MJ's records. The NBA is obligated to alert the card company's with privileged information. Go check the old Beckett's, you will see cards like Grant Hill Tim Duncan Ricky Williams and Ryan left drop in price months before the public knew of there situations.

It's not about collecting cards as much as it is about inside information. Would you rather find out a restaurant you eat at had problems with roaches from a restaurant card company, or wait until one of your friends finds a roach in his soup?

Anther smart Mav fun.
Let me say it real slow. B-a-s-k-e-t-b-a-l-l is a t-e-a-m sport. YOU need more than one player to even play the game in the N-B-A. Hence, Russell and the great MJ amongst other greats had their fantastic teammates, just like Timmy. This is something Mav fans know nothing about. Discipline and team basketball are foreign concepts to you. As if anyone is saying Tim alone can win a champiosnship. See, that's why the Mavs always get schooled. They have no concept of team ball and were dumb enough to trade Devon Harris away. Must be so frustrating for you guys!:owned

It would be interesting, though, what the Spurs could get if they traded Tim. I mean, I know that even if they got equal value in return, the Spurs could still land LBJ and D Wade and never replace Timmy's value in the locker room and to fans. But, it would be interesting the offers they might receive.

What do you say the Spurs just try it out in, say, the summer of 2010. I mean privately they'd never trade the guy, but they tell other teams that he's on the block. The Spurs would have everyone so busy trying to come up with a trade package for Tim, the Spurs would have first shot at the free agents that are really on the market.

On that note, I wonder if anyone has ever contacted Buford or Pop in regard to (what they think is) a legitimate trade proposal.

Instead of humiliating me and yourselves you should be great full with the rare time I spent sharing this info on this cheesy website. In fact you all should have your lips glued to your monitors right now as you pray to GOD for the once in a lifetime opportunity to toss my cyber salad and give me the props I so well deserve.

Tim knows he will be lucky to finish this season. Those are the facts and sorry if I made anyone cry by reporting them, face it the NBA can be a ruthless business at times. It's not all river parades and Memorial day miracles.

So let me get this straight. Because of tendonosis and because he's day to day, he'll be lucky to finish out the season? I'd say Timmy has had one of his best career seasons this year...and still draws double teams, and still makes people pay when they don't, and even when they do. Tim Duncan will average a double double until the day he retires, which will be on his own terms. Sore knees? Come on...Bill Russell and Jordan had sore knees for half their careers. I'd say Timmy is ahead of the game, considering he's a big who's been in the league for 11 years now.

Basketball cards in the 90's are not worth much as much as you would think because there was so much interest in the Michael Jordan rookie card most of the cards in the 90's were over produced. Here are some current Tim Duncan rookie cards values from Beckett (mint condition price):

Topps $2
Bowmans Best $5
Finest $12
Fleer $2
Skybox $4
SPx $15
Topps Chrome $30

I might add the the George Hill rookie card has done fairly well on eBay.

I'm not saying anything, except that in my opinion the whole idea of trading cards is stupid.

who says card "A" is worth $200 and card "B" is worth $450, some publication? that card isn't worth a damn thing until some individual is convinced, for his own reasons, to put down $200 on a card. those reasons might be that he happens to like that player more than another, maybe he thinks one player will end up being better than the other, maybe he's just trying to make you think he is cool......whatever. the prospective buyer will determine the value. most collectors don't have the balls to ever sell their shit anyhow.

sorry mouse, but collecting cards (especially if you are over the age of 17) and looking for sex/porn on the internets 24/7 pretty much fall in to that category of "Creepy" - either way you slice it

Hey! What's wrong with looking for sex/porn all day everyday?? Hell, that's how I found this forum.

I googled Lots and Lots of Pussies...

and google corrected me...

Did you mean: Spurstalk.com

Just kidding... this is a great site and I like Spurs fans for the most part, but I had to take that opening.

I think many of you got side tracked and missed the point of the topic. I don't collect cards anymore, and if i did it's no different than collecting stamps or dead butterflies. What a person does as a hobby is really their business.

The point I was making is back in the day when i did collect cards I noticed the Beckett (the Bible of card value) book, would show certain cards going up and some going down way before a player did good or before he sucked.

For example. The Beckett had Randy Moss and Peyton Manning as very high rookie cards but the NFL and the fans were more excited about Ryan leaf and Curtis Enis

and who turned out to be the stars? If you collect classic muscle cars and there is a book out there that tells you which ones are harder to get and which ones will go down in value would you not read the book?

Well I found myself to be some sort of Nostradamus on the radio shows. I predicted the Packers to win the super bowl and made a killing betting all these redneck wannabe Cowboy fans money.

I was also able to predict the Spurs winning the *1999 NBA Championship and its recorded on the Tony Bruno and JT the Brick radio shows and was posted at many sites during 1997. All because i did my homework. Are you saying if you was at a horse track and you knew one of the horses stepped on a nail one week before the Kentucky Derby wouldn't you have inside info? Maybe the folks at Beckett knew about Tim's bad knee before the Public found out. Maybe that is why his card never went up!

Look at all the fools who swore up and down that Michael Olowokandi was the next MJ and what really happened?

My point was Tim's Knee will never get better, his card will never go up in value ,and if that is to much for your limited little spur brains to absorb than I can't help you.

BTW as I was surfing on NBA busts I found this site, guess who the writer was? ...:lmao

Mousey, I just found the TD card above -it's in the gold foil version versus the white plain rookie card that you used as a comparison to make a point. Why are you comparing the white plain rookie card to Kobe's gold foil version?

For accuracy shouldn't you be comparing Kobe's foil card to Timmy's foil card? Same condition, same company.

I don't collect cards, but I presume the foil cards are more valuable along with the condition they are in. You tried to dupe us in comparing a TD plain rookie white card with a Kobe's gold foil card.
Cheers.:toast

I know this must be a very bitter pill for the folks in San Antonio to swallow but there comes a time when you have take your medicine.

What medicine? When is the last time the Lakers actually won a championship? It's kind of sad that you act like the season is over, the playoffs have come and gone and you are legitimate winners. I mean come on-can't you save all the nonsense until after you guys actually win something this year?

You think Kobe give a rat's ass that Lakers were in the finals last year? Ask him and see him in his interviews. He could care less about meaningless division and conference titles. It's the Championship or bust. Same for the Spurs team. It's the Championships or bust! But your bragging is extremely inmature and premature, especially since you haven't won anything in several years.:wakeup

Mouse are you serious with this post? First off what does card collecting have anything to do with the game itself? Second, how do you even compare Duncan to Chris Webber and Grant Hills careers? Tim Duncan hasn't missed anywhere near the number of games those two have missed. Those two names arent even in the same league as Tim duncan. To say the Spurs should trade him now before his career ends up like Chris Webber or Grant Hill, as far as i'm concerned you have lost all credibility when it comes to sports. You sound like a sour Dallas Mavericks fan that has never won anything.
