PHOENIX (AP)—Toronto’s Chris Bosh had an explanation for how Shaquille O’Neal scored 45 points: He cheated.

“He was just camping down in the lane,” Bosh said Friday night, after O’Neal’s biggest scoring night in six years led Phoenix to a 133-113 victory over the Raptors. “I mean, if they’re not calling three seconds—I thought it was a rule, but I guess not.”

It was the 49th 40-point game of O’Neal’s career and his highest-scoring game since he got 48 for the Los Angeles Lakers against Boston on March 21, 2003.

“It was cool,” O’Neal said. “Guys were really looking for me. I’ve been saying all year if I can get those touches like that, I think I can do that every night.”

A week shy of his 37th birthday, Shaq made 20 of 25 shots and grabbed 11 rebounds.

“He’s just so strong and pushes guys right under the basket and gets inside,” Toronto coach Jay Triano said. “We have no match for him.”

O’Neal still insists no one can guard him one on one.

“I’m the only player,” he said, “who looks at each and every center and says to myself, ‘That’s barbecued chicken down there.”’

Louis Amundson scored a career-high 20 as the Suns outscored the Raptors in the paint 90-36. Matt Barnes added 18 points. Grant Hill had 14 points and 12 assists, just two shy of his career high set 11 years ago for the Suns, who were without Steve Nash for the second straight game with a sprained right ankle.

Former Suns star Shawn Marion led Toronto with 27 points and 11 rebounds. Andrea Bargnani added 21 points and Bosh 19.

O’Neal, who also had 11 rebounds, sealed the victory by scoring all the Suns’ points in a 10-2 run that gave Phoenix a 120-102 lead with 5 minutes to play. He left the game to a thunderous ovation with just under 2 minutes remaining.

There were 10 lead changes in the third quarter, with the Suns up 96-90 entering the fourth.

“We were right there, man. I don’t know what happened,” said Marion, who drew a big cheer when he was introduced before the game. “We just hit the tank or something, and everything just sort of went the other way. It’s frustrating because I think the fight in us just went out the window.”

The Suns are 5-2 since Alvin Gentry took over as coach. The victories have come over the Los Angeles Clippers (twice), Oklahoma City, Charlotte and Toronto. The losses came in blowouts against Boston and the Lakers.

“I’m not really impressed winning against teams we’re supposed to beat,” O’Neal said. “We’ve got to step up against the upper-echelon teams.”

That skinny fuck needs to hit the weight room then maybe he can at least make a mild attempt at keeping Shaq out of the paint.

they should've kept jawai (aussie shaq, lol) instead of sending him to the d-league
that would've been 6 extra fouls to use

You can't let a 37 year old fat-ass go 20 for 25 from the field then complain about 3-second violations.

The problem is Bosh re-signed with the Raptors basically with the "promise" that he would not have to play center and get beat up anymore. That is the main reason they brought in Rasho that summer and then O'Neal but now he is stuck with a center who wants to play on the perimeter. Bosh is and always will be a PF.

I'd love to watch the game and actually see if Bosh has any credibility. With the poor reffing I've seen this yeat, I wouldn't be surprised if Shaq was getting away with it. If he was, it's on tape.

Hasn't Shaq been doing that for like fifteen years? Why the hell would Bosh think they were going to start calling him for it now?

Well, I just watched half the game, and I didn't see it. I wanted to, but it wasn't there, at least in the first half. What I saw was a big, powerful Shaq just crushing anyone the Raptors threw at him. Bargnani, Voskuhl, Bosh. The first two guys tried, but Bosh? Very half-hearted D on Shaq. Guess he wanted to save his energy for the offensive end.

What I don't understand? Why didn't the Raptors double-team Shaq a bit? Maybe they tried to in the second half, but in the first, it was just like watching a man rolling over boys as Shaq bulled to the iron time and time again.

They should've grew some nuts and did Shaq like Pop did. Foul him 20 feet from the bucket, then give him a thumbs up and a smile.

Obstructed View is right..Bosh must have never watched Shaq play before, because he's been violating the 3 second rule since the day he entered his the league.

:lmao @Bosh actually expecting them to call that.

And it's not a good excuse for getting whupped like that, because Shaq camps every game.

BeeGee
03-01-2009, 02:11 AM
You can't violate the 3-second rule though. The refs either call that shit, or they don't. No different than steps, carrying, or most other violations. You either let his big ass get 45 on you, or you letchya nuts hang, man up and at least make him earn'em.

That's what's wrong with the nba game today. Too much bitching and babying going on. In high school and even college ball its all about who is the strongest. Those guys beat and bang like crazy under the rim. At any level of basketball other than nba, strength wins. If you weren't strong, you got cut. Maybe some day people will quit being a pussy and there will be someone strong enough to man up to shaq and keep him away from the rim. Strength is part of the game, get in the weight room, Bosh.

HaHa Bosh is actualy right about this. Even as a suns fan I was amazed they did not call 3 seconds a few times. I can recall atleast 3 instances when Shaq was in the lane for atleast 6 seconds.

But you still have to man up and play him. I don't remember Ewing, Robinson or Olajuwon crying to the reporters.

Maybe he should have asked the refs about it during a timeout rather than whining after a loss. If it's such a big deal, complain to the league office and post videos on youtube...

After Shaquille O'Neal scored 45 against Toronto on Friday, Raptors star Chris Bosh said O'Neal had benefited from officials ignoring his three-second lane violations.

"I heard what Chris Bosh said, and that's strong words coming from the RuPaul of big men," O'Neal said. "I'm going to do the same thing (in their next meeting) I did before - make him quit. Make 'em quit and complain. It's what I do."

And after watching highlights of that game, Bosh wasn't even putting up an effort at defending Shaq. Standing there watching a guy dunk pretty much means you have no right to whine about why he lit your ass up.

Dj Mbenga could stop shaq, he is a beast, LOL, Shaq is always going to get respect from the refs, Just like Lebron, Kobe, DWade, Duncan, etc..thats what stern wants, star players not get call for fouls and every single time they get touch its a foul, i wish the nba was it was years ago
