With just hours to spare before Sunday's midnight deadline, the Oklahoma City Thunder and Joe Smith reached terms on a buyout agreement. He will be put on waivers Monday morning and is expected to clear them 48 hours later. Several league sources said Smith is then expected to sign with the Cavs for the rest of the season.

Players must be waived by March 1st at the latest to be eligible for the playoffs. All of the guys waived today (3/1) (Smith, Gooden, Swift) will be playoff eligible.

He's a Laker fan, so of course he has no concept of anything but Laker rules in the Laker universe. That's the universe where teams trade Pau Gasol for Kwame Brown, yet still maintain a straight face about it. Like it happens for everybody else.
So why bother with the petty details of actual NBA rules?

by the way, OP should change the thread title until he actually signs with the Cavs.

Ben Wallace guards Gasol better than Joe guards Gasol so its actually better for the Lakers

but the Lakers' defense only works great when Wallace is on the floor and theyr can play 2 rovers in the paint knowing Wallace can't score. Joe Smith and Z can both hit outside jumpers

Do you understand that he hasn't even cleared waivers yet? Do you know what waivers are?

It is possible Smith could be in uniform for Wednesday's home game with the Milwaukee Bucks and certainly should be available Friday when the Cavs visit the Boston Celtics.
