View Full Version : Ah...Another fun twist in the Drew Gooden situation.

The Spurs and Cavaliers have interest in Drew Gooden, who was bought out by the Kings on Sunday night, but there are reports of a possible injury.

The reports claim that Gooden is suffering from a sports hernia that could require surgery.

Cleveland is rumored to be deciding between Gooden and Joe Smith, who was bought out by the Thunder on Sunday night.

"Either guy helps them," said a general manager. "But Joe Smith is a solid vet who is good in the locker room who would understand his role. Gooden is a good player looking for his next contract."

Take it for what its worth, Chris Duel stated that Greg Moore texted him saying Gooden was on the way. I have no clue on how reliable that source is.

Manu4tres...I firmly believe that Gooden will be here as well.
Just not sure who wins out letting this report go about Sports Hernia.

Not Gooden, Not Kings, Not Spurs...no upside to fake this report.
OH well....

Hey Peter,

Where did you hear about his sports hernia?

RealGM had the report this morning. Again, sources look like this is all but done, but just curious who the hell would benefit from such a report

If the report is true and the Spurs sign him, I don't think the severity of the injury could be that threatening.

Nobody let this report go since Gooden having sports hernia is an old news.

Power forward Drew Gooden was upbeat Tuesday for someone who has been ruled out another two games because of an abdominal/groin injury. Gooden, who saw a specialist Tuesday, will have missed 12 consecutive games when he returns to the Bulls' lineup next Wednesday at Milwaukee. Gooden was worried the doctor would diagnose a sports hernia. ''I'm just doing my treatment and my rehab, which has prevented from me having to call it a sports hernia,'' Gooden said. ''Because I haven't really given into the injury as being a sports hernia, the doctor said it was good I was strengthening my abdominal area.'' Gooden did warn that he may need surgery if the pain returns next week. ''They said if it's a true sports hernia, I won't be able to play longer than two, three games without it coming back,'' he said. ''If I play and it gets worse -- and I go back to square one after two or three games because that's what sports hernias do -- then I'm going to have to have surgery.'' Gooden has talked to Grant Hill, who has had a sports hernia. ''I was asking him questions about it. He said once he came back and played, the pain came immediately. I'm not having that. So that's a plus.''

He would have to pass a physical before signing right?

Turn your head and cough.
Yes. he would have to pass a physical.

I knew he was a little banged up, hence him not playing for the Kings. But didn't think surgery was on the table.

With that said, Pops ends his 10 day, heads up to Austin, Gooden on the bench for Friday, and get's a few minutes in the 2nd Qtr of the Wiz game, and bulk of 4th.

why the hell do the spurs want damaged goods??? then to get rid of a healthy pops. granted he is no star and there is not reason to believe he will help in the playoffs but why spend cash for a injured player. i hope its just not keeping gooden fromgoing to another team....this is dumb.

From what I understand, he's a free agent. He's not signed. Raptors had him up for a workout not long ago. Free game, I think that's why Pops sat last night, Spurs didn't want him to put up a 12 pt 6 board stat line in garbage then release him.

They bought Pops up then Gooden issue happened

How long has Mr. Moore "been knowing" Drew Gooden?

Well I got the same text, and talked to different people as well. I believe this is much more concrete than the infamous Rasheed Wallace Trade incident.

Perhaps this post, will get me a little more air time on his show today.... :)

I just don't understand this. Sit a player because he would play to good just to release him? I might be wrong but shouldn't that mean you might want to keep him?

Again, the direction the Spurs are taking on this is confusing.

Spurs wouldn't use Pops in the playoffs. Too raw yet.
Udoka at least has been there before.

Interesting to see what the Spurs PLayoff Roster goes. I think it's 12

Duncan
Parker
Manu
Bonner
Finley
Bowen
Mason
Hill
Gooden
Thomas
Oberto
Vaughn

Udoka/Hariston/Ian Not playing
