I have to admit i was pissed when we let Scola go to the rockets.I love the guys passion for the game. That being said Drew Gooden stats are almost identical to Scola's.

Both are in that 12 -13 points,8-9 boards a game range. They are also about the same age(In fact Gooden is a tad younger).I am pretty stoked about this move.

Stats wise, maybe.

But Scola is better. He's more physical, has a higher basketball IQ and has hair.

Which means he improved. With that percentage, he would probably be our best free throw shooter.

I really hope so, but I fear the sample size is too small to make a good judgment either way. Gooden has been fairly inconsistent in FT shooting throughout his career. Here are his percentages (chronologically) in years where he's shot 99 free throws or more:

69.7, 63.7, 81.0, 68.2, 71.4, 72.8, 86.9.

Obviously he's capable of shooting very well, but the question is what kind of streak he'll go on during the playoffs and in clutch time.

As far as "our best free throw shooter," I'll take Manu Ginobili any day of the week, who has these percentages the last three years:

86.0, 86.0, 88.0

Edit: I'll take Roger Mason Jr. too, who has a career FT% of 87.8, and not a single season below 86%.

It is good to go to the line more often anyway. Drew Gooden is better than nothing. At least, at least the Spurs got something for almost nothing.

Same numbers, Scola looks in control, Gooden gots crazy easily; I think POP can handle him properly.

I think we do a great move signing him, the playoffs are coming and his numbers looks great.

Can you guys imagine putting Scola with Manu? Man they have great chemistry together.

Scola is much better than Gooden, who is known around the league as not the sharpest of tools in the shed.

Gooden has the Mongol beard thing going on so I expect big things from him in the playoffs.

Once you factor in Manu's chemistry + familiarity with Scola, it's not close when comparing him to Gooden.

Funny how we let Scola go because “he wouldn’t fit in the Spurs system” and now they went after a guy that (stat wise) we can say is a "Scola clone" and a lot of people here think he will be our savior.

The Scola trade move is getting more and more ridiculously stupid as time goes by….

It's Funny how wrong the Spurs scouting staff overseas was and that they never saw that coming.
Shit, Even fans, who usually watch euroleague games on TV knew Scola was gonna be a top PF in the NBA,but not the scouting staff....
Was that Scouting staff the sameone who messed up with Nocioni's age????
Makes me wonder.....

dude... Why don't you change your team tag to the Rockets? :nope

urunobili
03-04-2009, 03:37 PM
and why don't you change your screemname to UruguayoHomer?

C'mon dude, the fact that I'm spurs fan doesn't make me a blind homer. If the FO or the guys watching players in Europe fuckup, they should try a diferent job. Because obviulsy they can't recognise between good prospects and bad prospects as far as the transition from FIBA to the NBA.

Your original post REALLY made you sound like you need to start appreciating what the Spurs FO have done for you... and probably a so called by yourself Spur fan included...

Think about it dude...

The only way your post is not rocket fan like, is if you were whottt fishing...

let it go dude...

and for the record... i have been thinking of changing my screen name to UruSpur...

Scola is much better than Gooden, the comparisons based only on numbers is near a joke and would be like people posting other guys averaging similar numbers to Manu and pretending that they were the same.

yes, scola's threads are all around the forum and as usual, his overreacting argentine fans see him as a god.

but this guy is good, and everyone having seen him play knew he would be fantastic in our team. Most of these guys on the great argentine team of 2004 have something special: sometimes talent, but always toughness, good teamate.... still can't believe we've let him go.

and to answer the question, he IS better than gooden, who is still a great addition to our team.

i still would like to know why we let Scola go. After the tons and tons of threads about it, i still don't see a good answer..... maybe the only one is that it was a stupid mistake by a usually great and succesful FO.
