Well, I've given the spurs the benefit of the doubt for the entire season. But if they go on to lose this game, I'll be genuinely worried for the first time this season. They're just not playing well at all at a time of year they're suppose to. There hasn't been a consistent improvement over the year. Maybe it's needless worrying, and everything will be fixed come playoff time.

Almost great D, Kurt.

03-04-2009, 11:25 PM
So how did Tim's lazy ass get 4 rings
Tim Duncan sure as hell didn't get rings playing like this. If a 7 footer can't get a few inches off the ground to dunk a damn ball when he's wide open there's problems. It's not like Duncan pulls this every once in awhile. He throws up weak shit ALL THE TIME.

Yeah, they definitely could use him, but let's not start acting like the Spurs are invincible with Manu.
Well no team is invincible but manu in my opinion does make the spurs a way better team. What he really helps the team with are his steals late in games and his free throws. He gets to the line and he makes most of them unlike duncan and parker.

This is true, but it always has been though. Why are we acting like Tim's 1" vertical is something new?
Duncan's 1" vertical didn't hurt him much because he used to use headfakes and footwork (something that's also missing from his game these days). These days in the post Duncan gets the ball, waits awhile, makes one lazy fuckin move and then throws up weak shit. I can't remember the last time I' saw Tim Duncan give a quick pivot or make any kind of sharp offensive movement.

03-04-2009, 11:35 PM
Do u believe Duncan is in the best shape of his life? I have done the tire routine and the running in sand.......that is all well and good for stamina but isnt gonna make you stronger. Duncans lack of hops has to do with his lack of effort or training at improving it. He is not a toned guy either, Im sorry, with the diet and training these guys have, no excuse not to be in top shape. Again I love the guy but hes 32.........Look at shaq who we all know is 40lbs over wt, yet his moves well due to training.
I believe Duncan came into camp in the best shape he's been in for the last few seasons. Pop said it, I have no reason to doubt him.
Duncan is stronger than he looks, he's powerful on that court. His game is a finesse game, it always has been. I don't know why anyone would think he needs to start jumping now, when it's never been a big part of his game.
He had surgery on his left knee in 2000, the right knee is acting up. He's not going to start jumping now.
Duncan will rise like he always does. Pop has kept him outside more this season, hopefully it's helped protect his body a little more for the Playoffs. He'll be there when it matters.

Credit the Mavs D in the 3rd. We had no answers and went on one of our patented 5 minute scoring droughts.
This stretch was the difference in the game IMO.

This one is on Pop. Throws Parker out with no shooters to space the floor, next thing that happens is the Mavs take the lead and never relinquish it.
he also left Finley on the floor way to long....should've had Bowen on Howard a lot sooner...he also should've figured out some way to exploit the fact that Dampier and Dirk were often double-teaming Duncan.

I wouldnt have bitched about that. I dont think leaving any player wide open that is shooting a nice percentage at 3's is the smartest defense to play. But yeah whatever floats your boat man
The thing that stands out from this game is how slow Tim is. He is slower than Kurt, Bonner, Oberto and Dampier. Tim was the slowest guy on both teams. Every and any Maverick just drove right by Tim when he was isolated. Layup drill.

His numbers are good, my problem with him is he lets guys that shouldnt even be on the floor push him around, like Bass....Dirk is a worthless post defender but Tim struggled against him, all season its been like this.
When hes on hes one, but miss a couple shots.....he starts playing soft, going timidly to the basket and starts shooting jumpers. He needs to go and be physical, want it more, show your team that you have the will to win! He has rarely done that this year thats my issue with him.
in short,Tim gets rattled easily and does not show a desire to win....

Not only was it a layup line, we were getting called for letting them get layups, or for daring to get in the way. At the other end Dampier is free to shove Duncan in the waist with his forearm (this apparently isn't a foul, Duncan gets this in most games with no calls) or out right knock him down without any problems.
It's bad enough they let Joey Crawford back in the league. It's a disgrace he's ever allowed to ref any Spurs games. 2 techs for laughing, game deciding no-call on Brent Barry in the Western Conference Finals, and games like this. I can't help but wonder what wonderful things that fat hairless troll has in store for us in this year's playoffs.
Even if everything were on the up-and-up, his history makes every call (or no call) questionable. The NBA is pathetic.

Because numbers never tell the whole story. If Duncan came into this season in the best shape of his career it isn't showing. Shaq at 37 and carrying 50+ more pounds than Duncan moves faster than TD, has better hops than TD, has better footwork and more offensive moves than TD. That's a fuckin shame to me. Well, what were the Lakers excuses when they lost to us? "Our key rotation players(Farmar, etc.) were out..." but hey, whatever it takes homie. That's what you get for talkin' to fairweather Laker fans, homeboy. Any real fan of the game knows that you gotta come out and play every team despite injuries. Any real fan knows that the injury excuse is a very lame one because teams at full strength get beaten by lesser-equipped teams all the time. The Mavs won this game because of the Spurs poor rotation in the post. Dampier got the layup/dunk on Kurt and Kidd was wide open for 3 because of that poor rotation. The Mavs also played better than the Spurs defensively at the end of the game. Were it not for Parkers speed and ability to get to the rack, you'd be hard-pressed to name a possession in which the Spurs got an easy bucket. What Pop should've done is spread it out with Mason posted on the wing and let Tony drive and decide. Instead, he kept tryin' to run Mase off of the baseline and the Mavs switched nicely to ball-deny.
Ginobili or no Ginobili, the Spurs could've won this game.
Ginobili or no Ginobili, the Mavs outplayed the Spurs to earn a good win.
Injuries happen and the NBA season is a grind. Either you survive or you don't. But you do not use injuries as an excuse.

Sorry but, I've never been into excuses. This year's Spurs team needs to do some serious soul searching because at this stage of the season, just winning one, losing one, will not bring #5 home to the Alamo city. There is no excuse for us playing the way we've been playing since the start of the rodeo road trip. We should be winning 8 out of 10 at this stage of the season...not .500 ball. If there is something wrong with Timmy then Pop should sit his ass and get him healthy. We have way too many deadbeats like Finley, Vaughn, Udoka, Oberto, etc.

I really don't think you have been watching any games..
numbers don't tell the whole story is a horrible argument..
Duncan has been great this entire season..he's more mobile than he's been in years, and it definitely shows..he was averaging 25 PPG on 50+% shooting for a while until Manu returned..he's had to carry this team on his back with our injuries..
I guarantee this is one of the few games you've seen this year..Duncan is injured..either that, or you're an idiot..I wouldn't be surprised with either answer..
Shaq doesn't even play on most back to backs..he also doesn't play D in any shape or form..he doesn't rebound well..he doesn't really use any moves anymore, he still relies heavily on his size..I have no idea what you're talking about..
basically you have no arguments, and you're an idiot..
I've watched Duncan all year homer. I watch him all the time. Duncan has NOT been mobile all year long. Sometimes he gets away with his little pussy game that he plays and some nights he doesn't. Either way his post game has been crap for the most part. Barely any footwork or post moves. It's get the ball, wait awhile, make a lazy move, throw some weak shit up and hope it goes in. His moves aren't quick, they aren't decisive. They're slow and plodding which is why he's probably been blocked more times this season than at anytime in his career.

Bonner might be a great offensive threat for a role-player, but he negates most of it with his D. Not saying he doesn't give it his all or he's always in the wrong spot, he just doesn't have the tools to stop most of the bigs he faces as a starting C. Not that I expect alot of bigs to be able to stop guys like Dirk/Garnett/Amare, but it gets old seeing Bonner get shot over. Fuck, I wish him and Pops could trade wingspans.
And does anyone know much about Goodens man-D? Can he stay with quick guys like Amare better than the current bigs backing up Timmy? I have heard nothing but awful shit about his rotations, but I hope he at least can stay in front of his man.

Another big factor was Howard's 3s in the first half. It seemed like everytime we would start to build a cushion he was right there with a 3.
Timmy and Finley had poor shooting nights and we got almost nothing from our bench. Hard to win if 2 starters are a combined 9 for 29 and the bench only chips in 7 points.
This seemed like the kind of game where we could have benefited from some youthful energy, i.e. Hill and Hairston.

In 02-03 Kidd was shooting .341 from 3.
This year he's shooting .401. Not only that, he'd been hitting them most of the night. No other Mav shoots the 3 better this year, and you're saying we should leave Kidd open for 3. You may have a point in your argument that we need to double one player or another, but your stubborn insistence that we should leave him wide open is ridiculous.
Right leave open Terry, Nowitzki, or Howard.
Makes sense.
Got it.

Wow you have some weak arguements, do you really think what you said would be true, with him averaging 20.5???? How can someone who plays like you say get that? It's not like he's the tall version of D-Whistle, he earns that shit with his jay, bank shot, and vast array of post moves. It's true that he rarely goes up strong, and that I wish he would, but the player you describe would average more like 10 pts a game.

He's played like this his whole career. A lot of his game is ugly/awkward. But he's successful at it. Tonight was an off game.

espn says with Gooden signed bonner will be used more at SF
Maybe if Pop has too many wine bottles RIGHT before a game. Bonner has nowhere near the speed to stay with almost any NBA SF in the league. I want Fin to come off the bench, but that was not what I had in mind.:bang

There isn't any excuse making.
The Mavs are professional basketball players and they played well in their gym where the Spurs have already beaten them this season.
But you are going overboard...posting the Spurs need some soul searching.
Yes, the defense was bad tonight. However, the game came down to the last 2 possessions and Kidd hits the three and they win the game.
A good game by the Mavs.
Also, the fact this team is 40-20 and when they have missed Manu and Tony for a portion of the season and they have to incorporate Mason, Hill, and Bonner into the offense has been successful.
Please, don't get carried away like this team is a .500 team(like a lot people thought during the 1st month of the season) or the Phoenix Suns!!
Yikes!! :bang

What does clutchness have to do with effort or heart. When you are the leader, you cant slack off and say well I have been clutch for 12 year and now I will take it easy. This doesnt define his career but it does define his season! He has shown a lack of effort and fear alot this season and when he does I have noticed TP starts to play the same way.
Everything starts and ends with TD thats why he gets 20 mil a year, you want another ring you gotta go play hard every play or put some one in who will. Lack of effort catches on as can be seen by our season long poor D!
not to make excuses for him but the guy is playing next to matt freaking bonner as the other big man. bonner was late on numerous rotations 2nite. even bowen was horrible with his perimeter D.
saying Timmy complained to the refs too much 2nite and that he sometimes doesn't try as hard in the regular season are valid arguments. But come playoff time, Duncan will be the last person you question about their effort and desire.

Reading comprehension kid....learn it. I didn't compare the Spurs to the Suns simpleton. I compared a 32 year old Duncan's movements to a 37 year old Shaq's movements. And Shaq moves a hell of a lot better despite being older and carrying more weight. Tim Duncan had 19 points and 12 boards tonight and STILL looked like garbage. Like I said before, numbers don't tell the whole story.
You poor soul. You're drivel is just that illogical and nonsensical drivel. A little bit of basketball knowledge is dangerous for you. I won't even glorify your idiocy, it will take too much time and frankly, it's entertaining to see your stupid comments posted here. :lmao:lmao
I guess you're right and Duncan's numbers which show he is having one of his best years along with the Spurs being in 2nd place in a very competetive conference (unlike the East) doesn't count for shit. You're right we much rather have Shaq, so we can be in 9th place fighting for a play-off spot. WAKE UP NUMBNUTTS!!:lmao:lmao

Sorry, but I'm just not into mediocrity. With the kind of money these guys make I expect them to give 110% each and every game. When they need a breather then Pop can pull them out. I am not asking for a victory each and every night. I am asking for them to play like they care, to play hard and generally give a damn and they are just not showing that lately. This is not looking like a championship year when you compare the rolls we got on in previous championship years. Maybe that fag Cuban needs to come light a fire in our guys ass because Pop sure ain't doing it.

I hope Houston and Denver lose a couple games so they get off the Spurs' ass.
EDIT: Meant Portland instead of Houston. At least Denver is on a losing streak, maybe they can keep it up. And Portland won their last 3, hope they crash back down.

Anyone know the combined # of games Tony, Tim, and Manu have missed? I think they've had the injury bug as bad or worse than Houston, but Utah takes the cake from my guesstimation(Boozer was out forever, Deron was out too, but idk who their 3rd best guy is).

Obviously marhill, you and I definitely have a different set of standards. I am into winning and you seem to think playing halfass is A-OK. If the way they played in Portland got you all excited then so be it. If you think us losing to the Cavs the other night got you all excited then so be it. And if you think us beating up on the lowly Clippers was showing the league that we are the big badasses on the block then you obviously have never been involved in anything that calls for being competitive.
Sorry kid, but you are wasting my time.

Face it Tim is either injured or Lazy with no heart.
Duncan is injured. He just got back Monday from missing a week.
I never understood any so-called Spurs fan who could possibly think Duncan is lazy with no heart. Pop, when Duncan couldn't play last week:
I just think he's too important to us. When he said he couldn't go on Tuesday, that affects me. He doesn't say that. He doesn't miss anything. He doesn't miss practices. When he says that, that worries me.
Duncan is the heart and soul of this team. His work ethic is impeccable. He had a lousy game, but to call out his heart for the game, this team, is sad.
It's Duncan's heart that brought 4 Titles home.
Fuck.
