I'll be making the 5 hr pilgrimage down the the best city on earth Saturday morning and staying until Monday. I'll be in Sec 208 on row 12 if anyone is in the area...and I also plan to go and wander around the pro shop about 1:45ish if anyone wants to holla at a brotha. Big bald guy, tattoos, 2008 Tim Duncan All-Star Jersey.
Couple of questions for the locals....
Good Mexican food...I have eaten at a couple of pretty good places in my past trips down to SA but I am sure there is better that I haven't discovered. I'll be staying just a few miles from the AT&T, so somewhere on the east side of town would be ideal.
Live music Saturday night...if there is any bars in the area that are having good live music Saturday night I'd certainly be interested. I'm a sucker for a good classic rock cover band. And again...I'd rather not venture too far from the east side of town, but if the band is good enough I might make an exception.
Can't wait to be back home. :)
Enjoy the nationally televised game -- Shaq v. Duncan. :)

Uh, No. Sorry. San Antonio is far from synonymous with GOOD MEXICAN FOOD. Get it straight. Tex-Mex is NOT Mexican food. Are you kidding me?
Your best bet is to visit the holes in the wall on the West and south side of San Antonio owned by Mexican Nationals who really know MEXICAN FOOD. Fajitas aren't even traditional Mexican dishes much less other ridiculous plates that exist. Call it Tex-Mex cuisine NOT Mexican. 2 different worlds. :nope

fuckin' sick! if you're looking to add 30 lbs onto your ass then by all means check out chachos... or if you just like a shit ton of grease then yeah chachos is your place!
if you want real mx food there are a couple of places i suggest but none are on the east side(bad side of town). guajillos which is off blanco & 410, tacos de julio off of fredericksburg and like hildebrand. already suggested, mi tierras is alright too and it's downtown.
as for coverbands and whatnot... i have no idea on the weekends.

Same company, different atmospheres. They all have plaques on the outside stating what you should expect.
The one on Callaghan Rd. is more party oriented, the one on Bandera more family. Haven't been to the one on Poss though.
The food is undeniably good at either location though. Drinks ain't half bad either :toast

real mx food unless you eat a ton is kind of light. especially depending on where you go though i will admit tacos de julio will add some fat on to your ass but that place is awesome!
chacos on the other hand is completely sickening and a disgrace to "good mexican food".

Ah, Chachos... I've downed too many frozen Jack and Coke's there too remember. The food was ok, nothing great.
Out of the aforementioned Mi Tierra, Margarita's, and Pico de Gallo I would suggest Pico de Gallo as it is IMO the best of the three although all three are geared more to a tourist crowd. There was a little hole in the wall place that I would go with my parents in south San Antonio called Mi Cocina or something of that nature but I don't remember the name exactly. That was some good TexMex food.
If you want a good chicken fried steak dinner try Bud Jones' Restaurant.

I think I went to Mi Tierra a couple of years back while wandering around the market. We had a appetizer there in between meals. The only reason I remember is the pictures of the dessert bar look familiar. La Margaritas looks a little too touristy, so I think I'll give Pico de Gallo a try one day then maybe run up to Chacho's the next.
As far as the Tex-Mex/authentic debate goes, I like both and it depends on my mood. We have a very large Hispanic population here in Tyler and there are several mom and pop spots on the east side of town that you have to hear about from a friend to know where they are. They always have great food. There is also a big Tex-Mex place down the road from my house called Posado's that I go to at least once a week. It's cheap and good...and they do $3 happy hour on the Margaritas before 7.

Nobody is arguing. Just assisting in the clarification of things. And this just screams out to be clarified. Texas is known for awesome "real" BBQ right? Would you be o.k. going to SoCal (for you Texas born natives) and having some surfer dude telling you he's selling authentic Texas BBQ from his cart? Of course you wouldn't.

If that's their designation for it, fine. My only point was to say that when I speak the words "Mexican Food", I understand it's Tex-Mex I'm talking about. Much like your surfer understanding that it's really "So-Cal Surfer BBQ" when he calls it "Texas BBQ". I believe that was the point Buddy Holly was trying to get across.
