It would be a great idea actually, then we get another big scorer who is also a top defender, plus the Pacers want to get rid of him

Hard to say. I don't think the salary works out, does it? He is younger but I am not sure if he would be good for the chemistry.

If Bowen win defensive player of the year this season, the Pacers may want to do it

if the Pacers are willing, it should be done

which Spur would follow him into the stands to get his back? we do not have Jackson any more.

I doubt Bowen makes enough to make it work one-to-one. Indy would be looking for more.

Artest here would be ridiculous.. teams would be scoring 50 pts and leaving with bloody noses on the reg.

Given what has been given up for star players lately..it's not out of the realm of impossiblity.

Blazer16

I wouldn't. I don't see a huge need for another offensive threat with Duncan, Parker and Ginobili, and you'd be trading a great character guy for a player who can't seem to put everything together and keep his head in the game.

it makes alot of sence talent wise, but i don't think Pop would trade a golden boy for a headcase.

I'd be shocked if Bruce is ever traded, unless he wants to be. He's already voluntarily sacrificed salary so the Spurs could sign Manu and TP. He's Pop's kind of player. And he's managed to improve his game every year.

And, most importantly for Holt Cat, he's pretty cheap.

Sorry, but there is no way Indiana does this deal. And I don't really want Artest on our team. His salary will kill us on the cap.

You have been assigned Trade ID number 2322904

San Antonio trades: SG Brent Barry (6.5 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 2.0 apg in 19.7 minutes)
SF Bruce Bowen (8.4 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 1.5 apg in 31.9 minutes)
PG Beno Udrih (5.4 ppg, 1.0 rpg, 1.9 apg in 13.7 minutes)
San Antonio receives: SF Ron Artest (24.6 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 3.1 apg in 41.6 minutes)
C David Harrison (6.1 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 0.3 apg in 17.7 minutes)
PG Eddie Gill (3.5 ppg, 1.4 rpg, 1.1 apg in 13.7 minutes)

Change in team outlook: +18.8 ppg, +6.9 rpg, and -0.2 apg.

Indiana receives: SG Brent Barry (6.5 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 2.0 apg in 19.7 minutes)
SF Bruce Bowen (8.4 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 1.5 apg in 31.9 minutes)

Change in team outlook: -18.8 ppg, -6.9 rpg, and +0.2 apg.

TRADE ACCEPTED

Due to San Antonio and Indiana being over the cap, the 15% trade rule

Artest is really talented and plays with a lot of fire but he is absolutely looney tunes...the guy just doesn't get it and never will...have you guys forgotten he wanted to take last fall off from basketball (before the fight) to promote his new CD?..Spurs would not even consider any trade for Artest...but there are definitely some franchises out there that WOULD take a chance on him...

I think Bowen is a Spur for life. The Pacers could offer Oneal for Bowen and Pop would probably think twice.

One thing we should remember. San Antonio is really a small town with small town sensabilities and values. The Spurs FO has always (well almost always) kept that in mind when bringing in a player. They always value character and attitude higher than most franchises. They don't want thugs and headcases.

So far, the result has been outstanding. The Spurs are always in the hunt and yet never have PR problems like in Portland because of a players behavior on or off the court. For that reason alone, they probably won't look at Artest.

Should we trade Bowen for Artest during the off season?

No.

Where's Bruce Bowen?

Bowen brings so much more to this franchise than 8 ppg and individual defense. He took less money to come here. He was flexible with his salary this summer so that the Spurs could sign Manu. He works hard every single night, even if it doesn't show up on the stat sheet. He works on improving his game every season. He understands the team concept, the Spurs system, and the big picture more than almost anyone. He hasn't missed a game in years. He's a mentor to the younger players.

Where's Ron Artest?

He's picking out an attorney or album cover somewhere. He's more than looney. He's disrespectful. He's immature. And has no regard for anyone but himself. He let his teammates and the whole city of Indianapolis down with his antics.

Bowen is a man.

Artest is still a boy.

Um, Stephen Jackson anyone?

I like Bowen, but you can see he's already starting to lose a step on defense this year - more off nights against top scorers in the league, and it's only going to get worse as he ages.

I was gonna say something, but Kori covered it...

Bowen, despite his deficiencies is one of our most important players. On court, and off it. Bowen is the type of player that every opponent hates for his ability - everyone just hates Artest for being a dick.

Keep Bowen.

Artest has been a large part of the Pacers crashing and burning the last three seasons. Wouldn't want him to become an integral part of the team and then depend on him. Then again I feel the same way about Barry.
