Raptors sign Bonner

CBC SPORTS ONLINE - Forward Matt Bonner finally signed Monday with the Toronto Raptors.

Contract terms were not disclosed.

"I think he's got a legitimate chance to compete for a spot on our team," Raptors rookie general manager Rob Babcock stated.

Bonner became Raptors property on June 26, 2003, but opted to play last season with Sicilia Messina of the Italian A1 League, averaging 19.2 points, 9.3 rebounds and 36.8 minutes in 34 games.

The 24-year-old finished seventh in both league scoring and rebounding.

"He's a 6-foot-10 player that can shoot the NBA (three-pointer) and he's a physical, aggressive rebounder," Babcock said.

Bonner was acquired by the Raptors at the 2003 NBA Draft for a second-round pick from the Chicago Bulls, who chose him in the second round – 45th overall.

He remains the lone University of Florida player to surpass 1,500 points, 750 rebounds and 150 three-pointers during his NCAA career.

Pacers sign Farmer

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Desmon Farmer, an undrafted rookie out of Southern California, signed as a free agent with the Indiana Pacers on Monday.

The 6-foot-5 guard, an All-Pac-10 first-team selection, averaged 19.4 points a game as a senior and finished fourth on USC's career scoring list with 1,606 points.

Terms of the contract with Indiana were not disclosed.

Farmer shot below 39 percent from the field last season but impressed NBA scouts with his defense and his muscular build, which helped him overpower smaller guards.

The Pacers begin training camp on Oct. 5, two days before Farmer's 23rd birthday.

Sixers sign Davis

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Free agent forward Josh Davis, the CBA's MVP last season, signed with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Davis, 24, averaged 18.7 points and 9.6 rebounds in 40 games for Idaho and was also named the league's Newcomer of the Year.
The 6-foot-8, 240-pound Wyoming graduate appeared in four games for the Atlanta Hawks last season, averaging 1.3 points and 1.3 rebounds.

Terms of the contract were not disclosed Monday.
