I saw the Suns game last night and I was wondering why the Spur players don't dunk the ball more often like the Suns did.

Is it something coach pop does not like?

Thank you for any info you have.

Something I've always wondered too. Ginobili is probably one of the most flamboyant players the spurs have ever had as far as dunks. Spurs have never had a "showtime" type of guy. Even in the damn nba live games, especially the earlier ones, they made them out to be layup kings or just throw down weak dunks. Good question.

because its still 2 points. now the next question is, who's the best dunker on the spurs??? i think Devin might be. manu a close 2nd. any thoughts?

Devin is a better dunker by himself, like a dunk contest dunker.

But Manu is good at dunking on people. I have so many video clips of Manu dunking on people.

Besides Malik over Mutumbo, I'd have to say one of my favorite dunks in spurs history was Derek Anderson's over Shawn Bradley.

Maybe to show the Suns they got game? there are many reasons to dunk.
Why do other teams love to Dunk the ball?

or are you just trying to be difficult today? are you short like me? you hate when tall people dunk?

Dunking kicks ass it tells the other team "eat this" I bet if you was a Suns Fan you would have loved every dunk.

Brah did you even watch the game? You had over 4 different Spur players under the basket and missed an easy lay-up. I think Dunking is important, It makes a satement and it gives your team a lift. I take it your a lay up kinda guy?http://photobucket.com/albums/1003/buttspray/th_rhino2.gif

Dunks feed your team with energy.

You get more pumped after dunking on someone than laying it up.

that was sweet, but you can`t forget about that Manu dunk over Marion and Amare...and that one game earlier in the season when Manu dunked over practically the whole Laker team. :spin

u can't play tight defense as the spurs do,and be able to dunk the ball that often.
it's one or the other.

What about Tims Dunk over Ben Wallace?

Seriously to these guys two points is two points no matter how you get it. And i'm sure dunking isn't as big a deal to them as it is to the fans, but you guys are correct it does get the crowd going.

Why is it assumed that Devins a good dunker, dude can barely get over the rim.

Mouse, I can answer that question for you, the spurs can't dunk is that simple, they rely on their boring defense, that's why they are labeled as the most boring team in the NBA.

If someone dunks constantly, it becomes expected ... but notice what happens when one of them does dunk? The fans go crazy, because it's not something we expect ...

RaperGoddess, go shove a rat up your ass and troll some other forum, your input was stupid ... last I checked, the Spurs are tied for #1, where are the Rapers?

This may be the best post of the topic. Thank you for breaking it down for me.

I heard that the most athletic player and probably their best dunker might be that Linton Johnson III guy.

Right now our best dunkers are Manu and Devin. Why don't the spurs throw more ally oops to each other ala Marion and Vince Carter?

I love a good dunk as much as anyone, but I'd rather see a safe two points than a potentially botched attempt at showing how large your testicles are. Some players feel they have to be a big shot and show off...the Spurs are a team and the bottom line is to play fundamental basketball and win. I'm never bored by how the Spurs play, because they can still lose a 20-point lead and bring it down to the wire. It drives me insane when that happens, but I am never ever bored. But Tony's rare dunk not long ago impressed me because, frankly, I didn't think he could jump that high. I also enjoy it when Tim dunks because you know he's not grandstanding..he's making a statement. And Manu...well, nothing he does surprises me anymore. The guy's just fearless.

That may be true--but unfortunately we don't have many players with athleticism. TD is not a leaper. Rasho certainly isn't. Bowen is not a driver and can't keep out of the way of his own feet sometimes. That leaves Manu and Parker. Parker's not a great leaper and not very tall. Manu can and sometimes does dunk if he's not being knocked around when he goes down the lane.

That leaves the bench. Devin is about the closest thing we have to a really athletic body with hops. We'll see what Nasr does.
