He's right over Tim's back to knock that rebound away. Then the Suns get a 3 on the possession. No position... no chance to get to that ball without fouling Tim. It's a can't-miss call. Unless Javie has the whistle.

That's why I wanted the Spurs to have a good lead going into the 4th...in a close game, the refs will fuck us every time.

GSH
03-08-2009, 04:34 PM
Can anyone tell me why that was a double technical?

Because of Steve Freakin' Javie. Period. When he's calling a game, inexplicable shit can and does happen.

Mason's foul didn't merit a T, and Richardson throwing the ball is an automatic. But Javie makes shit up.

yes, some whistles have been strange in this game.

but the main problem is that no one outside Tony seems able to create on offense. we can't run all the offense through tony. that's where manu is missed the most. Mason nor hill or anyone else can create enough on offense.

It's sad, because they definitely are giving the effort now for Gentry, they just aren't quite able to beat these teams without Amare.

Of course, if they played D...but they've never done that.

They definitely haven't quit on the season, though. At least not yet.

Don't forget about Orlando. They're very good too, although with their starting PG gone for the season, it might not be their year.

As for the West, there's still New Orleans and Utah, but they won't beat S.A. or L.A. in the playoffs. So it's between us and the Lakers, and we need to prove that we can beat em 4 out of 7. Right now I am skeptical but we'll see.

Since we're in the Sons blog however ... let me state that the Sons are completely irrelevant to the conversation. If they manage to crawl into the playoffs, they'll get swept in the first round. In fact, I hope they do make the playoffs so I can watch that crap. That would be fun.

Glad to know JohnnySixString sucks at creating equations, this would be the correct one: Sucky Ime playing=Spurs loss, Ime from NO playoff round=Spurs win. I'll take Fin with 30 minutes if Manu is out, as long as Mason gets more minutes, and Bowen gets more than 25.

And huge props to Hill, he might've not really factored on O, but his defense on Nash was almost Bowen-like, and he'll be a top 5 rebounding point guard along with top 5 in D soon enough. One of his first boards that had me shouting was when the ball was going straight to Timmy, but George said "that's mine, bitch!!!":hat And the one he had to immediately pass to Mase was just as good.

EDIT: Fin could've played some more minutes tonight, his offense was stellar. Mason might've scored almost twice as much, but he was 33% on 3FG, and 40% overall. Fin was much more efficient with 66% 3FG, and 57% overall. Mase had 1 more rb/as/stl, with 2 less TOs, but Fin didn't get blocked twice. I might have a mancrush on Mason, but Fin was the top sg for the Spurs today.

Parker was out of his mind today. He's become deadly with that mid range jumper. He really led the team in the 4th especially when Duncan was on the bench.

Duncan was great in the 1st half but I thought the Suns did a good job making it difficult for him in the 2nd half.

Nice to see Ime playing well in the 1st half but he was throwing up junk in the 2nd half.

Thomas was solid all game. On both ends.

Mason was on fire in the 1st half but I didn't much care for his 2nd half. Props to the Suns for making him drive the ball which isn't exactly his strenth.

I thought Finley was behind Parker for best game in the 4th quarter. He really nailed some big shots while playing some decent defense.

Hill also deserves some props for his 4th quarter play. It was mostly his defense and rebounding but that heads up play for the layup and steal to seal the game were huge.

For sure, Hill was huge. I wish he'd had at least 4x the touches he did, but his D was so good that would be nitpicking. When Tim and Tony are playing that great, I'm fine with Hill not getting alot of touches.

Another routine win here, not much to get excited about, the only positive out of this is that it's a win against a .500+ team....the only area needing improvement since we are I believe 17-16 vs. .500 teams. But again, nothing to get excited about, the Spurs have always beaten the Suns, we just went out there, did what we had to do, and won. Should be an easy week, there aren't any challenging teams coming up this week.

Parker's looking confident, but he's looking for his shot way too much lately. I'm glad at least that all of his pull up 22 footers are going in. At some point he needs to do a better job of getting the rest of the offense involved. He's seemed a tad ballhoggy lately, and I don't think it's intentional.

Mason should not be the backup point guard. If we're going to have to get someone running the point that isn't very good at it, I'd rather have Hill or Vaughn doing it. Udoka showed some promise in the preseason running the point, and he seems to play better when he's feeling involved. Using any of them at point frees up Roger as a shooting weapon, because he moves better around screens than he does with the ball.

Why do all the brothas hate Louie Amandson (sp?) so much?

Running two plays specifically for Finley (one in the post) to start the third quarter was one of the bigger WTF moments this season for me. Run two plays for Duncan and get the lead to 17 or 18 and the momentum for the second half is completely different.

Great win. Fun game to watch. Can't wait for a healthy Ginobili and Gooden. That being said....I was reading the Phoenix newspaper sports pages online, and all the local reader comments, and I got to say I feel bad for those guys...the fans. Between their front office, coaching staff, and players, those fans have been dealt a real crappy hand. Going from a playoff contender to squat in less than a season. That has got to be pretty tough on a hardcore fan (like I am about the Spurs). These are the same fans that REALLY thought they'd have a chance this year. All in all, it makes me grateful to be a fan of the Spurs organization and grateful of their business decisions over the last decade, because all it takes is a few risky decisions to make a playoff contending team into squat in such a short time period as half a season.

I'm really happy for Tony that he's getting a lot of assists, especially against a bunch of teams that aren't going to make the playoffs, but that doesn't mean he's running the offense well, just that people are hitting shots after he passes to them. The Spurs should be developing as a team. Having Parker carry them is the same thing they were doing the first week of the season.

Again, I'm really glad that his shots are going in. And again I'm sure we're all really thrilled that he's doing so well against teams that don't play defense, but that doesn't make them smart shots, and doesn't mean they are going to be ready for a deep playoff run.
